Just ordered the Nina Simone LP, just couldn’t resist it. Also waiting for the Coltrane Love Supreme to be delivered. Great show again Michael, thank you. PS you’re costing me a fortune.

Really great editions of these albums. Well worth the price of admission. I did a couple of shootouts myself against other later reissues of A Love Supreme and Pastel Blues. The biggest difference to me is that Ryan K Smith is allowing for more decay and airiness giving a more open and engaging sound and either an impression or illusion of what the room might have been like. Pastel Blues is such a powerful album and Sinnerman is an incredible track. Wonderful series so far!

I have not bought Coltrane Ballads yet but I did get the love Supreme. I have never been a huge Simone fan, I’m one of those singing and jazz guys who doesn’t like it except for Ella. I did just get the Dire Straits Love Over Gold. 2 copies! I special ordered it 3 months ago and forgot. Crap. Steve

I have the Coltrane on CD for many years. It is a wonderful recording even in digital. I’d get the new vinyl reissue but I’m running out of shelf space.

The Peterson Armstrong reissue is quite lovely. I’ve ordered Pastel Blues and Coltrane’s Ballads on you recommendation. All these record purchases are putting a dent in my new turntable fund !!

I remember how good tape cassette recordings could be on a great deck….do you record your 45 rpms to tape and sit back? I was a rural world record buyer in the 80’s and I can’t ever remember 45 rpm recordings ever being sold or ordered at the records store I worked in. It was just at the beginning of cd sales and then I started my lean college poverty years. Jumping back in and feeling my way. Not sure my equipment can do the 45 justice. I don’t go snooping online as it often devolves or gets to be too much ….or it has with some of my other interest. Im older now( and for last 20 years lost interest in recordings and got into playing the guitar instead) but after hearing what Acoustic Sounds has been doing, decided to shake the dust off of my old equipment.

I recently got the recent Phillips reissue of pastel blues and was absolutely blown away by it's quiet noise floor and fidelity of sound. I have the verve reissue in order so curious to see if it can surpass my current copy. Long live Nina, one of the most talented and unique artists of our time x

I have the Phillips reissue and, from the first seconds of the album, the Acoustic Sounds one surpasses it by far: the percussions, Nina's voice takes on much more texture and spreads throughout the room. I was happy with Phillips's, but the Acoustic Sounds is far superior.

I think A Love Supreme had a black and white spine just because it matches the cover photo. Ahmad Jamal, Chico Hamilton and others had the black and white spine as well. The usual orange and black came before and after.

I am going to have to give Nina Simone I put a spell on you another try tomorrow. My first spin was late at night, and perhaps because I was tired, it gave me severe ear fatigue which I have never had since I upgraded my amplifier.

I enjoy your videos very much and have learned a lot about audiophile releases, particularly from labels that I never knew existed. Unfortunately for me I’m not a classical or jazz fan and although I’m interested to see these releases they are not relevant to my tastes. I buy a lot of records, mostly new releases and falling into the indy, electronic and experimental categories. Nearly all of these releases have awful pressing quality. My question is if I may, do you know of any contemporary releases that may be considered audiophile or at least have very good pressings? Thank you for taking the time to make these
@Michael45RPM4 жыл бұрын
Not really audiophile, but maybe you look into the Erased Tapes or into Raster Noton Labels

Thanks for the video Michael. I know this has been up a while so I'm late commenting. My copy of Pastel Blues arrived a few minutes ago and I was curious to see what you had to say about it. I'll be listening to this later today. I've only really given this album my attention recently. It's amazing to me how modern her approach to singing was - in a way. Her influence on other singers is also so apparent to me. Particularly her influence on Jeff Buckley. Who by the way did an interesting cover of Be My Husband from this album. I'll throw a link here for you - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWTEgH-slqaoiMU
