JEM - The Lubavitcher Rebbe

JEM - The Lubavitcher Rebbe

Күн бұрын

The Talmud relates that King David and his general, Yoav Ben Tzeruya, supplemented each other. David was immersed in the study of Torah, while Yoav went out to battle. If not for the merit of David's Torah, Yoav would not have been victorious in his wars, and if not for Yoav's battles, David would not have had the ability to study Torah.
Today, the bravery and sacrifice of Israel's soldiers (IDF - Israeli Defense Force) on the front lines will continue to meet success when bolstered and secured by their "spiritual supply corps" -- the Torah study of the "support troops" back home. For the Torah is our deed of ownership to the Holy Land.
This partnership will keep the military miracles coming.

This is a great example of a Jewish leader who sees the full picture, is respectful to all and sees everyone's contribution. It is interesting to note that Rav Kook was firmly against forcibly conscripting Yeshivah bochurim to assist in defense.

It is possible to both learn torah and serve in the army. It is actually very helpful to have learned people as soldiers.

But often the best way to better learn your subject is to teach it to others. Why can not some of the brightest students be sent to the front to fortify men w/ God's word in times of danger? I am quite sure such an experience would give them a new insight into many of the passages they study, & the ordinary troops will edified as well.

Martin Ingall, 1. Divrei Talmidei Chachomim Tzrichim Limud - PLEASE, i bessech you to be very careful before you judge the words of a Gaon Batorah how much more so a "Tzaddik", misunderstand them and commenting out of place. And even if you chose to comment, you may say, "I am peturbed by this" or the like - Chas VSholom to speak the way you do. Ho wmuch more so when we all know how much the Rebbe supported the IDF and the deep care love and concern the Rebbe has for the IDF and the people of Israel as whole - regardless of level of religiosity. With that said, I strongly encourage you to watch (& control yourself) the video a few times, as I have more than 10 times over a period of years now. Review the sources (& the commentaries on) the Rebbe quotes. The Rebbe is saying both are important. We need to figure this fiasco out. Thousands of religious Jews serve in the IDF and thousands of non religious Jews study Torah - every day in Israel. In addition, history has a lot to offer us, as you mention there are sources to the opposite of what the Rebbe says, perhaps. But in our generation we must rely upon the great Tzaddikim to guide us and teach us what apply's and when and how. Is is beyond the scope of this conversation to address this in so many place in Torah that generational difference have modified the actual practices of previous generations, particulalry in concepts related to Shemiras Hanfesh V'Haguf. With that said, all jews are important and all views must be reconciled, Lithuanians, Chassdim, Mizrachi and others. Remember there are 12 tribes in Israel, essentially, and many Jewish customs among them - and then there are things that are concrete in Torah - both in learning and in practice - we must decipher which is which - and be very careful doing so - because their are lives on the line. It has always been the case that some went to fight and some went to learn Torah - no one argues that. We must open our minds to both views and come up with a "united plan" that will help us both physically-spiritually and spiritually-physically. Remember what makes the land ours is our holy Torah - if we don't follow the Torah - then alas i ask whats the point?! Is the Israeli Government following the Torah's advice? Are they treating fellow Rabbis with respect and honor.? And the same in return. And remember as great thinker once said, The Government of the state of Israel came 3000+ years after the Torah - so please tell me who has to answer to who? Maybe it is indeed time for the Israeli Government to start including Torah in their decisions. And for healthy respectful dialogue to ensue. With love and respect to all Jews, warriors and scholars alike - equally so - and even more to the soldier who actually risks his life more so...as the Rebbe clearly stated - so please - spread love not animosity and degradation of great people and please let us know the facts on the ground and where they apply and to whom?!

Wait, what? Zevulan and Yissahar had a partnership, BUT it was one of them SELLING the goods of the other, NOT that they worked for the other full time and the other JUST learned.

awakening The Yissacher-Zevulun model is mentioned in the Midrash (not the Chumash or Gemara). And in the Midrash it says that Zevulun was helping to market Yissacher's merchandise, not fully fund them

+TagMehirTzedek Hope you find what you seek! V´zot HaBeraja Devarim  Of Zevulun he said: "Rejoice, Zevulun, on your way out, and you, Issachar, in your tents 19 They will call peoples to the mountain and there they will offer righteous sacrifices; because they draw from the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand. "     1. Rejoice: Material things, like work and accumulate wealth, are not worthy of rejoicing with them because they are not objective but are also perishable and needs. However, if the person has a noble and spiritual purpose in their wealth as support the cause of those who study Torah then you can rejoice also to go to work and accumulate wealth. (Or Hajhayim): The person should seek a noble spiritual purpose and eternal in everything it does so that we can do it with joy.      2. on your way out (commercial): "On your way out" can be interpreted also to leave this world after 120 years, you can brighten Zebulum because you touch an important part in the Olam Haba for having supported and sustained the cause of Torah study (Bajhye) 3.       3. and you, Issachar, in your tents. They will call peoples to the mountain and there they will offer righteous sacrifices Rejoice in your store Issachar study with success and prosperity in the understanding of the Torah (Rashi): This type of society creates "the eternal hills" refers to sites where eternally grow fruit and leave to do so due to lack of rains (Rashi) 4     4. because they draw from the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand. "And content" refers to all land containing mines such as gold and silver and other metals. All that is blessed by the will of Hashem who landed on Sinai (Bajhye) Parasha Vayehi Bereshit  Rashi notes 13, 14 and 15 are about this topic.  13. Zebulum in coastal seas: This phrase means that the seacoast will be their land. The word “Chof” must be understood as the Targum translates “Sefar”, border, limit. It means the same as the old French word “marke”. The phrase means that the tribe of Zebulun frequently find in the coast where ships dock in the port area where ships to carry the goods. Well Zebulun worked in sales and provided sustenance for the tribe of Issachar, whose members were devoted to the study of Torah. This association between the two tribes Moshe meant when he said: "Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, and Issachar in your tents." He alluded to the fact that Zebulun and Issachar went out to trade devoted to the study of Torah in their stores 245. And its end will be next to Tzidon: It means the limit of the border of the territory of the territory of Zebulun will be near the port city Tzidon. Yarchato word means "the end". It is similar to the meaning in the phrase "In the end (yarchatai) Tabernacle." 14. Issachar is dunkey: I mean, it's like a dunkey in the sense that it has strong bones to bear the yoke of the Torah, like a sturdy donkey to which it bears a heavy burden. Which lies between the boundaries: Like a dunkey marching day and night, without pecnoctar in a house, and when you want to rest extends between the boundaries of cities which bears his merchandise. 15. He saw that the settlement was good: That is, saw as his portion in the Land of Israel to a blessed and good to bear fruit region. And I became: For all his brothers in Israel. In tax worker 252: In the sense that they will prescribe them legal directives of Torah and the rules for determining the years embolismic, as stated: "And of the sons of Issachar - holders of discerning the times to know what to do Israel- , their chiefs were two hundred "255 the tribe Issachar came two hundred leaders Sanhedriin, as evidenced by the continuation of that verse:". And all his brothers followed his words "257 Bowed his shoulder: This means that lowered his shoulder, as in the following sentences: "bowed the heavens"; "Bow down ears". But the Targum of Onkelos translated differently. According to him, the phrase "vayat Sh'jmo" means that under his shoulder to support wars and conquer other regions, since members of the tribe of Issachar lived on the border and the enemy was submitted under its authority for them tax worker. 245. Tanjuma11: It is also for this reason that both -the blessings of Moshe- Yaacob and is mentioned Zebulun before Issachar. Although the tribe of Issachar was dedicated to the permanent study of Torah and therefore, because of his spiritual superiority might have thought it should be mentioned first, Zebulun precedes it because "it is bigger that makes another fulfill a mitzva the same that meets "(Mizrahi). 252. In Hebrew, the phrase, "im Obad" applies to a person who plays necessarily a job for another, not to pay him tribute. For this reason it is translated as "tax worker. 253. According to this explanation, "tax work" does not mean here that the tribe of Issachar taxes or taxes paid to other tribes but working for them in a spiritual sense, serving as guidance in legal matters of Torah. 257. It's argued that the rabbis have too much power in Israel. I submit that they have too little: Israel is a Jewish state. People should, of course, have the right to live secular lives and the beliefs of the non-Jews who live there must be protected, but Jews will disappear--mostly to intermarriage--without our laws. Ensure that Israel governs according to Jewish law--at least have "blue laws" so that Jewish businesses must close for shabbos and yomei tov and only accept halakhic conversions--the Law of Return shouldn't apply to those with only a Jewish father or who converted non-halakhically. FWIW the most cloistered Roman Catholic religious orders take a vow of poverty so they can concentrate of praying for the world.
