I actually really like the format of this video. Having multiple personalities on a video can actually be a bit refreshing if done like it was here (pros & cons, etc). That's not to say that every video should be like this, but I do you think it's something that should be explored.
@Kinkajou10155 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'm usually cool with one person spitting out all the information, but it's nice on occasion to have two people bouncing things off of each other and keeping the viewer engaged with multiple voices so you don't drone them out.

Im using the area 51m right now. Exact same spec (just in black). Yes, the cpu does hit 100 degrees IF you overclock it to 5GHz, I overclocked my to 4.3 and it never goes over 80. The touchpad is fine for me personally, i love the fact that its glass. I find it feels smooth and the gestures work fine for me, they dont feel at all janky. You make it sound like theres no mid-ground between performance mode (much higher fan speed) and quiet mode (much lower fan speed), but there is and you didnt mention it. Theres balanced mode which is the perfect mid-ground, no performance loss due to thermal throttling but also the fans are not too bad (no where near as loud as when in performance). You make it sound like its not portable at all, theres the vindicator 2.0 (alienwares 17 inch backpack) that it fits snugly in, theres even a separate pouch for the power supplies. Also, one last thing, you make it sound like you cant use it with one power supply but you can use it just fine, yes it will be throttled but i can game happily on it with just one power supply or even just on battery.

I use this one for work. When you are spending a lot of time at two locations for prologned periods of time, having a desktop replacement which you can game on and work on, means you don't need carry your work laptop, dedicated laptop for gaming, and having a gaming desktop back at home. An this thing does crush heavy workloads (compiling, running servers, etc.) So excited that I got it, since it replaces my 2012 gaming desktop. Pair it with a good gaming mouse and good headphones, you got yourself a nice portable gaming desktop. Setup. The power bricks will (other than the laptop) be the two heaviest things in your backpack, but for my use case, for work I can carry just one with me, and leave the other one wherever it is I am staying. Still works damn good with one power brick plugged in (on Ubuntu, for software development). Also, I used to use a Dell laptop for work so always had a USB-C dock to plug into the laptop, and the power bricks from those, are compatible with Alienware 51m - this thing has so much IO you might not even need the old Docks if you had them. The upgredability is nice as well, though I have yet to open it up. Will probably stick to a portable Steam library enclosure for gaming so I have one less thing to carry with me to work and back. All in all, 8/10 ... any higher and it would've been a desktop.

YES !!! And if you REALLY want to take advantage of portable high-powered laptops, is to use flexible or roll-up solar blankets you can spread around your campsite or camp vehicle to charge your Li-Ion Batteries or directly use your devices in off-grid situations. See list of best solar blankets: www.mygenerator.com.au/blog/best-camping-solar-blankets/ It seems out of all the one reviewed, the one with the most flexible and rugged design still having high power capability, is the 90-watt Engel Power Film Solar Foldable which has the 3 year warranty on it. It's ruggedness makes it the best of the lot. www.mygenerator.com.au/solar-blankets/f/brands_engel.html The below one is a tad expensive but 4 of them packed away in your camper van could power a LOT of devices even in low light such as in Winter-time Canada or mountainous Montana! www.mygenerator.com.au/engel-power-film-foldable-90-watt.html The KEY ISSUE is ruggedness and low-light capability. THAT are the two features you need in portable/foldable solar cell blankets for direct power use or battery recharge purposes. In my personal opinion, you need AT LEAST 350 watts and preferably 500 watts to adequately live off-grid using solar power only when charging batteries and during direct-power usage. If you can afford it 750 to 1000 watts would allow you to use MULTIPLE devices such as laptop, portable refrigerator, TV, and cell phone all at once for a VERY PLEASANT off-grid experience! .

I believe they're using an overhead mic, which makes having multiple hosts easier, but has some drawbacks, like mudding audio whenever the host turns their head.

Who would get a gaming laptop just to use the trackpad anyway? I get it, traveling and stuff but there are portable mice too? Maybe laptop makers should just remove the trackpad and just include a mouse instead.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I literally don't need a keyboard or a mouse! I really like the Asus Mothership concept. I do not get it with all the Webcam quality specs, what do you define as excellent or crap? I do not think this webcam is "half decent" regarding todays standards, its 30fps at most and looks a bit blurry to me. Could you please make a video about your objective and subjective testing methods and specs you analyze to compare to components of different machines to each other? 😏 would be interesting.
@LetsSmokeAboutIt5 жыл бұрын
This is something I've caught onto as well, they *often* make note of and mention the webcams on laptops and I cannot make heads or tails of how they go about reviewing them beyond someone asking if they checked it, and someone else saying "yup it's fine" or "yup it's bad". They need to develop some kind of standard for this as they don't even typically mention the specs. I will say that they generally show an example of the video and mic audio, and perhaps that's the most important part, but some cohesion between reviews would really be nice as sometimes things that look/sound like crap webcams are a "good" to them and while others look/sound great to me they're calling a negative to the laptop. I don't get it and I hope they improve. I'm also not looking for a laptop, so I don't really care about this from a position of personal frustration about not knowing what to buy, I just get annoyed with these sorts of things and then write about it on the internet.
