@@IamAdrift - D'uh. That was the point of the joke. Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase's iconic Word Association/Cracker sketch relied on racial tropes. Eddie Murphy's Gumby and Mr. Robinson characters did, as well. Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo's classic Ebony and Ivory sketch wouldn't exist without racial tropes. Sometimes, we move so far left or so far right we nullify ourselves in the process and lose out on the ability to laugh at how silly and misguided we often can be as human beings.

@@eme.261 You're relying on Chevy Chase for precedent about dealing with race on SNL. Okay then.
@eme.2612 жыл бұрын
@@IamAdrift Chevy Chase has done some awful things, and that was the purpose of that particular skit-- to shine a light on the type of man he really was under his comedic facade. Richard Pryor knew exactly what he was doing. At the time, it was easy for the general audience to chose to ignore the message, but eventually life chased Chevy down and slapped him. Hard. Humor has many uses. It's too bad no one ever taught you to practice discernment instead of rigid judgment. If people with your mentality determined how humor/satire was allowed to be utilized throughout human history, Chaucer, Voltaire, Mark Twain, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Sarah Silverman, Frankie Boyle, Michael Che, Dick Gregory, Paul Mooney, and yes, even Richard Pryor, among many others, would have been shunned into obscurity for having the temerity to offend the sensibilities of those who consider themselves the gatekeepers of their culture's current era. By the bye, don't think I didn't catch that you skipped over every other skit example I provided in my previous comment and singled out Chevy Chase as a tactic to negate the merits of my entire argument. Poorly done, but very amusing. 😏

I am aware of these movies because my younger sisters were Jim Carrey fans, so they were on TV a lot. She really is talented with her impersonations. When she did "Inventing Chloe" I thought she did even just as good if not a better impersonation than Julie Garner did of the Inventing Anna role 🐢🐢🐢Cara

If they ever made a movie about Chloe Fineman, and they just had her doing impressions of famous people the whole time, I really don’t think anyone would be complaining.
