What are your thoughts on Rolex's Destro GMT now that the dust has settled? 🥃 I have a gut feeling that this model that will have a 3-5 year lifespan before either converting to a more safer design 7:00 or disappearing completely.

I just got mine from AD worth the wait. This will be my only GMT as i like the differentness. I wear it on my left also. You can wear it on any wrist. I will move on to collect the whole line up some full gold and most steel. For me to get the pepsi or any other gmt just for different bezel and hand color isnt worth it. This watch covers it all plus its different.

I own and love this watch, was fortunate enough to get it from my AD. Agree in the next 5-10 years it will be a highly collectible watch. I wear my watches for the love of horology. If it appreciates in value, fantastic. Either way, it will be a fun timepiece to give to my son as I think my collection.

The date window is located at 9 o'clock there so that when the watch is worn on the right-wrist the date will peek out from under the cuff.

Agreed, super hot on the market. AD's make approx $10k on this watch every time they sell one to a gray market dealer. They're not going to intentionally make half that amount by selling to normies. Gonna be like this for a couple years.

Decline path of the VTNR is vastly in usual lines, considering the typical overhype after almost every steel sport release. Just look at the grnr/steel. The vtnr will continue to trade below Pepsi and obove Batman/batgirl. I’m seeing the grnr as thr lowest in grey market prices in 12 month.

They are not unavailable at retail, it's often the piece you get offered instead of the actually popular GMT models. I've seen several pick it up recently. I think almost anything Rolex GMT sells well but I also think there's a lot of buyer's remorse with this one. It looks weird no matter how you wear it

@@ID-Guy when I was a kid, being left-handed was ostracised, so I quickly learned to use my right hand for a lot of tasks, but over the years, I decided I don't care what people think, and I still write with my left hand, and I'm generally left hand-dominant (apart from tools that are right-handed, like scissors :)), but thanks to climbing that slowly evens out. But regardless of that dominance, never felt like my watch is in danger because of that.

I found this watch earlier in the year and decided i wanted one. So in late May I went to an AD in my area and they let me try one on, I gave them my name and said I preferred the Jubilee bracelet. I am left handed, I have worn my watch on my wright writs for many years. I did not know there was a left oriented watch. I have for years been thinking I wanted a gmt. So the AD reached out to me at the end of July and offered me the watch. Now I have been wearing it daily for more than two months. It is perfect for me, the left side date window is ideal. I constantly reference the present date as well as past and or future dates at work so I need a date. I also need to reference different times zones including conversion to 24 hour time. So after two months I have been more than pleased with this watch. It helps that the Green recalls the green used both by my father in his trade as well as in the color family my company uses. As such I am quite in love with this watch.

I really liked your take on this, but I can’t say I fully agree. I think you focused on the drop in price more than where the watch has settled on grey market. The watch came out at the end of the watch boom which only leads to the downturn, mix that in with the historic sky rocket in price of every new model as the first few get to AD’s, followed by a significant drop over the next year, I think it fits right in line with all the others, just behind the Pepsi. Had the same trajectory as the new Panda, which I don’t think anyone would say has been forgotten about. Just landed higher so far

Comparing it to watches that have been around much longer in terms of a % change in price really shouldn’t be taken as a sign it’s a real outlier. All of them are crazy high for a time when completely new, it wasn’t just a new colourway, it’s a unique watch in the catalogue so there were a lot of people wanting one so a lot of early adopters.

I am right handed and I wear my watches on my right wrist also, I still feel like this is the best way, I don't want the crown and pushers to face down my wrist and potentially dig into my hand and not once have I ever needed to adjust the watch whilst wearing it, I would always remove the watch and adjust it with both hands which is also better for the watch as it puts less strain on the crown/movement because you are supporting it better as you wind/adjust. And then because I am right handed I have better control over my right arm/hand meaning I am less likely to bash my watches whilst wearing them.

I’m not a huge GMT fan and the hue of the green on the bezel of this Watch doesn’t match the darker green that is a signature of the brand which puts me off. I feel that the hype has already died down on this model shortly after its release. I know people who have bought them and after just wearing their BLRO’s have sold this Destro model on due to it being redundant. I think that the Tudor LHD is a much nicer looking option at a fraction of the price. As a left hander myself I have always worn my Watches on my left wrist (it gives me access to more options) so the whole Destro concept is not important to me. Will this go up in value once discontinued? Of course it will, that is Rolex for you. Is it a future classic? I’m not so sure about that? Great analysis as always boet. Have a great week! ✊

The hype of this watch died down faster than a F1 around Monaco. I think Rolex will discontinue it, and maybe try out a LHD daily, maybe an Oyster?

I have this watch and I love its “oddity” and corkiness. BUT being a right-handed person I have to admit working the crown is a bit annoying and cumbersome to me (winding and setting the watch). I often find myself flipping the watch 180 degrees to have the crown in my right hand and then from there I have work things backward to set the watch 😅

Sinister handed folk like me have had to adapt for so long that my biggest issue is when working a watch as a stopwatch. The “bullhead” configuration works reasonably well for me. My Rolex opportunity has passed, I keenly looked at a used GMT in 1980. When I was ready to enter the store to purchase, I tried it on and just laughed, out of scale for my wrist. A ladies variant would have been nice if they were in suitable colors.

I'm right handed and wear on the right and always have, just feels more natural. (although watches are more vulnerable tbf) The only time I wear on the left is when I travelling on holiday with several watches . I kinda like it and would possibly consider one at list, over list no although it's quite possible by the end of this year it could be under list . About a year ago I asked my AD what are the chances but they are very restrictive and anything sought after either ends up grey or to 'valued customers' maybe worth a revisit. I've tried my explorer ll upside down, back to front or left to right (not sure which term to use?) to see how it would feel and tbf it's perfectly ok to fit isn't an issue

It has date at 9 because it was easy. They didn’t need to change the movement at all. It’s just the watch rotated 180 degrees. They would have needed to rework the movement to have crown on one side and date window on other. Rolex is lazy.

As a lefty and lover of green dial watches, I thought this watch was very cool. But, given the high price and difficulty obtaining a Rolex GMT, I still knew I would never get one. I have always worn a watch on my right wrist. I really like the oddball design and it would be easy to set the time with having to take it off. Alas, this guy will never own one.

There are times at work that I wear my watch on my right wrist. Otherwise it can snag on the door of the Cabri G2 or worse, the door handle of the A119 Koala. This presents a significant threat when I’m covering the throttle during touchdown autorotations. Anyways, that is why I convinced myself that I must have the VTNR. That and the colour and the quirky dial. Yes, it would be less demanding mentally if the date was at 3 o’clock. No matter though, I love uniqueness of it. I was delighted to get one from an AD and I wear it with a Marine Nationale elastic strap from Max Project Ltd, Belfast. It is equally at home on my left wrist. I have another favorite Destro also bought specifically for work, the EZM1.1. Chunky and easier to use the chrono function when worn on my left wrist. I also have it on a Max black/red elastic strap. These are two watches that I would not want to be without. They both make me happy when I wear them. Cool tools!

I own Pelagos LHD and I quite like the lack of protruding crown digging into my hand. This one is next on the list, but on jubilee. As for the longivety of this particular model.... I'm sure they will discontinue eventually, they discontinued the black-only ceramic bezel GMT even though they were popular. Hope I can get it from AD before they discontinue.....

I bought an Air-King 126900 and once it was on the wrist I recoiled at the fugliness. I find it curious that so many watch KZbinrs still get excited over Rolex literally flipping a watch around and changing the bezel-gmt hand color. Their pieces are boring as hell and I wouldn’t even buy one at retail if it weren’t to flip it to pocket a few grand.

For me the BTNR is a poorly considered derivative Oystergaffe. Just imagine if instead Rolex had moved the date window to the 6 o’clock and lost the magnifier - that would have made a destro of far greater interest. Rolex could still have restricted supply (as usual) and discontinued it (as usual) to hype the model (as usual) down the line - only it would have been even more hyped. But what do I know?! 😂

It’s a real head-scratcher. And since the colourway is so good, I bet they gave it the Destro treatment just to quell interest (maybe to scare folks off) Gotta love Rolex and their tactics 😉 If anything, it’ll go down the safe route 7:00 next… can’t let those bezels go to waste ;)

I actually disagree. I think this watch will be around for about 10 years. It nails a very specific and chronically untapped corner of the market: lux lefty watches, of which there are perhaps a dozen, two dozen if you stretch, and this watch is phenomenal. It's my dream watch, and I hope to buy one at retail. The simple reality is that as investments decreased and people had to decide which watches to keep and wear, most people being righthanded decided they didn't want to mess around with an annoying upsidedown watch, whereas lefties like me (and surely you too, IDGuy) would rather wear lefty watches perfectly suited for us.

The reason they made it like a mirror image is because, mechanically, it’s the exact same movement. The only difference is the orientation of the printing on the date wheel.

You could buy a Rolex submariner for $150 in the 1950's. Not an insignificant amount of money back then but they were solid tool watches. I don't doubt they are still quality timepieces but now they are overhyped status symbols. So I would prefer affordable ones now *amzwatch*

With the Sprite you're basically wearing a GMT that’s upside-down, with a different date wheel and dial fitted, and the bracelet ends swapped on either side of the case. The 3285 movement is also identical to all other GMTs, so actually operating the watch is not only on the other side of the case: it’s upside down, too. I always thought it was a cheap move from Rolex.
