It's really cool that Lego City has expanded so much, I remember back when it was just hundreds of police vehicles and we'd all make jokes about it being a police state. Still kinda wish they'd bring back the other classic themes though.

Laughing at how, of course, an Exo-Force "remake" would have these cursed mech limb pieces. But it does make me feel like an Exo-Force reboot in this scale would be cool to see.

@@CheeseyStudios"structural integrity" if I had to hazard a guess. Most Lego sets are geared towards maximum playability while not putting undue stress on certain pieces and making them more likely to fail.
@PlasticToa8 күн бұрын
@@TornaitSuperBird The reason that's been given by designers is that over the years they've learned from customer feedback and focus groups that having more articulation in a figure/mech actually hurts the play experience for many younger kids. In particular one of their guidelines is that a mech has to be able to stand up without needing the legs to be fiddled into a specific position.

Agreed, having more mechs sounds great. I'm really into building futuristic vehicles as smaller side projects, my latest was a mech. It is much more affordable and quicker to design on a vehicle scale than on a larger Moc diorama. I truly love building castles and creating landscape, but having a project that you can finish in one or two evenings is also great. If lego starts running this back, we can see a whole resurgence of Mechs also in the fan community, which would be awesome too.

this is a bit of a stretch, but I think this wave is a reference to the second biggest city in Denmark, Aarhus. We have tourist busses going around that look pretty much identical to the set, we also have a harbor with very similar architecture and cargo cranes like that, with street lamps adorned with ads in the exact same way, and one of the most common ads you'll see is also for a street race(funnily enough there is a beach to the side of the harbor like in the set too). Exo-Force is a CLASSIC Lego example of doing the wrong theme, at the wrong time. Anime is more popular and mainstream now than it's ever been, but in 2006 it was still considered niche, odd, or socially "off" if you were into it. I can't imagine it was Lego's best-selling theme, but I do very vaguely remember seeing some of the sets and leftover marketing material in 2007-2008.

I think those clips on the stealth hunter's waist in 2024 are only included to help it be a "statue" in the set so it doesn't fall over when you place it on the plate. I plan on swapping them out for regular 1 x 2 plates to get the "normal articulation" for mechs that size today. Hopefully we can get a new devastator mold soon in a Lego city construction or mining set soon to mirror their origin in exo force 😂.

@pinobluevogel64583 ай бұрын
The cockpit looks a bit off. I've never been a fan of cockpits where the pilot is 'standing' inside it, it makes much more sense that a pilot sits in a comfortable chair, strapped in to counter all the G-forces that flying mechs will pull. Even for mechs that walk and do not fly this makes much more sense. I always prefer the Mechwarrior style and Gundam/Robotech style over other types of mechs, as they look both futuristic and realistic.

It's great to see how the Lego City theme is evolving. When I was younger, my mom and her side of the family would only get me City sets and I used to feel like they needed support and some creativity from other themes like Creator and even Sports to actually stand on their own legs. Nowadays sets however are feeling much more cohesive and building a whole lively town which is more than police - firemen - construction. That said, as lego fans, we need our version of "Naxx out" for Bionicle or Exo-Force at this point until the themes make a full come back. Look at how lego Castle is slowly creeping in from time to time (even if, as of right now, mostly on big sets and not full waves) lol

The addition of clips to the back of the hips purely to restrict movement seems intentionally restrictive to fun. Then again, maybe that's supposed to be a metaphor for the draconian safety measures at theme parks.

Yeah, LEGO's continued emphasis on durability has taken away a great deal of fun, but the toys are less frustrating to play with. I'm not convinced it's a worthwhile compromise though.

I wish they'd actually do a remake of Exo-force just so we dont get just more Star Wars and Marvel mech shove in sets
@CheeseyStudios2 ай бұрын
That would be awesome. I worry that Exo-Force can never exist while Ninjago is around though

Man I loved mech force and a part of my wants to see it come back but then I remember how jank the ninjago mechs are and I worry...

It'd be very interesting to see what they could do without modern elements for sure

I'd hope to maybe see more mech themed sets as Mecha and gundam Shows have exploded in popularity over the last couple years.

They definitely do a lot of mechs these days between Ninjago and Monkie Kid, and even Star Wars has mechs now! 😂

This is so cool! The only thing I would have changed is the color of the padding inside the cockpit. I would have made it red or even trans red to represent the light brick. But other than that, it's a great little build!
@CheeseyStudios3 ай бұрын
I am surprised there's no nod to the light brick! A little cable would have been cool too

This is so much better than a $150 GWP only available for like a week or two! It's probably not gonna take long for someone to make instructions that turn the rest of the set into a mech bay or something

I'm so excited to see what people do with this! I'd love to build the other mechs in this style, too

I’d really like them to reboot the theme. The modern mecha sets are really cool, and this time they could do fully enclosed cockpits and add heads to all the machines, go for gold with a lot of Gundam and other mecha references

Exo-Force mechs with modern pieces would be incredible

Old was looks definitely more badass than the new one. The lack of detail and stickers makes it more toyish in comparison
@CheeseyStudios3 ай бұрын
Yeah, for sure. Makes sense in context I suppose, but I would love something as striking as the original!

While it's cool to see references to a classic LEGO theme, I don't feel like the mech actually does anything for the set. I mean to say that the main audience for the set wouldn't be enjoying the mech, so really, it's just there to make adults want to buy it.
