FYI: Being an older guy who grew up with Carburetors, You always have to modulate the gas pedal when starting them. They usually will not idle correctly until they warm up some. Give it one or two pumps of gas then turn the key. After a few tries is still not starting, give it wide open throttle and turn the key. You'll get the hang of it eventually. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Williams Family (Dustin, Tiana and Sparko)!
@josephmaldonadojr46922 жыл бұрын
Even my 85 supra with efi is like that because I have my idle air control unplugged realistically a motor is gonna make less compression and run Richer and less efficiently when it's cold so it'll take some throttle to keep it running

as classic car builder this whole vid was killing me, that moment you just drop everything and push everyone away from the car to solve the problem. distro needed advancing timing and a fresh set of spark plugs. the carbs only gets tuned on ideal, with carbs you set you mixer screws which needs to be turn all the way in until it bottoms out and give 2 turns in reverse for default setting on all mixer screws. with ideal screw need to be turn all the way out till the tip barely touches the plate and then turn 2 and half turns in for default setting. a tip put the engine in TDC and remove spark plug one fit a loose plug into the plug lead and ground the plug, turn the ignition on and turn the distro left and right till you see a spark then you have True TDC spark. put everything together and it should start if not advance the timing

dustin if the carbs are leaking fuel 9 times out of ten the jets are too large or the float could be stuck so your running the car too rich the only way you could get the carbs to run is to set the jets at by adjusting the air/fuel screw untill the carbs stop leaking and you should beable to run it decently but i highly dont recommend running it all the time like that and once you get it running you can adjust the idle screw and fine tune the air/fuel screw, i had the exact same problem on a customers 240z turbo with 3 oer jdm carbs that where chokeless from when i ran a datsun specialist shop and if it still doesnt run i would slightly turn up the idle screw on all three carbs and see if that helps just keep in mind all three carbs have to be tuned in unison
@Racer9732 жыл бұрын
i also recommend turning that shield to protect the headers from gas around to protect the car from fire its supposed to be flipped around to catch the fuel and keep it there like a pan, the way you have it now is upside-down and gass will run off and touch the carb and start a fire once warm btw

Gidday Dustin,Merry XMAS to you,Tiana and Tim.Its a learning curve for ya with 3 webers.Don't feel bad, the car needs to be spot to hang through the window, turn the key and then just run and idle.Its how you would know ya got it all right.As Colin below says they have fuel pumps in the body of the weber.You use them as choke,2/3 pumps max with a constant opening, like a third open.You might find the fuel overflow could be one carb is getting more throttle and using the pump more, make sure their all even and moving equal distance.

Did you check the mechanical timing? The distributors timing is based on the oil pump drive shaft, if it’s off a few teeth it won’t run.

you need to turn the fuel needle all the way close on all of the carbs then give them about 1 and a half turn on each and try if it starts but runs bad then give each carb another half turn till it runs better and keep giving it half a turn or less then once it runs good turn it off wait for it to fully cool down (atleast 2 or 3 hours of nothing) then try to start if it fires and runs well you succesfully tuned a carbed engine

Timing off, wires swapped. Or I’m leaning toward a wiring issue where when key goes to run you lose power at the msd/distributor. Hints why it sounds like it’s running when only cranking. But just a hunch, hard to say through video

You have a vacuum leak! Set everything to base setting and look for vacuum leak. Pull the plugs and look at it to see what the fuel is doing
@AnthonyCessor2 жыл бұрын
Triple webers run open, there is no vacuum leak. You can literally open the oil cap with the engine running and there would be no change in vacuum.
@jacksontan54102 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyCessor so you’re saying that there could possibly be no vacuum leak between the carbs to manifolds to the heads? Old cars are simple, pull the plugs and see if there is spark, check carb for fuel and air. If there is a vacuum leak then no matter how good you have your carb setup it will never run right.
@AnthonyCessor2 жыл бұрын
@@jacksontan5410 On their engine 100% they don't have a vacuum leak. Their engine was rebuilt and sealed. Triple webers on the Z don't even need vacuum advance. From the vent through the valve cover to the pcv is wide open, no recirculating with triple webers on this car which is why you can just open up the oil cap and get no vacuum leak, Hence why a vacuum leak is unlikely especially on a rebuilt and freshly sealed engine. Their issue is 100% timing or wiring related. I ran into the same issues when I converted to triple webers on my Z. Based on their last video they were not getting any spark, I myself recommended them to get the MSD, now they are 100% getting spark and fuel.
