@@dr.bright6272 Can you imagine the energy expenditure to do that and maintain safety compared to simply stabbing someone with it? It's all inertia and kinetics at that point. One could still make simple bayoneted pistols by separating blade and handle and welding it to the gun itself. Shit can get pretty convoluted if the desire is there

Instead of pointing the knife at users eye, or a spring power blade that goes for maybe 5 meters, why don't the design agency just make it so that it uses a blank cartridge to propels the blade out? just saying.🤔

@justvibing4796 what if they make it where it's like APFSDS? Where as it leaves the handle, it deploys fins? Wouldn't that work? But I feel like they would have tried that by now, so who knows. Maybe it just doesn't go fast enough for the fins to actually do anything meaningful.

The Soviet ballistic knife was used by Spetsnaz. I knew an ex-Soviet paratrooper that was in Afghanistan. I fired his ballistic knife in my apartment. Went through 2 walls, across the hall and stuck in the outer wall of the apartment across the hall. Within 30 ft the ballistic knife was fatal if you got it in the chest/head area.

You know where the design came from? Us 80s kids who had those neon colored plastic toy knives that retracted into the handle when you would stab so it looked as if it was going in.. They would break and the blade would fly out. You could push it into the handle and let it go because it was under spring pressure! I used to do it as a kid and thought it would be cool if it was real. Someone ran with it! 😂

It's an odd thing how poor many gunblade designs were back in the day. It's almost like the smiths and the craftsman designing the weapons were taking instructions from those requesting them with a degree of malicious compliance as all i ever seen to hear about them is how poorly made and terrible the designs were. Yet those same craftsman could make a wood and metal pistol sturdy enough to beat somebody to death and still fire later. All the concepts that should have led to a functional design were there, just never seemed to mesh. Of course, making a gunblade that would be properly balanced with materials of that era would be challenging, especially with how heavy they could potentially be.

Wonder if there's any way to combine the features of of the ballistic tip knives with the features of the CO2 compression knives that way if you can't get close enough you can use the ballistics and just reattach new blades to the handle then if you can get close enough and you have the option you can use the CO2 for a sloppy mop up

First. This “knife” was made for criminal by criminals. As everything what criminals use it’s more scary than dangerous Second. Ant of them not cheap and it means it’s unreal to use by rusians - they are cheap. Last one. The real one. I have two uncles. One of them was policemen for 18 years. Second was in jail for 27 years. Both of them shows me the best model of weapon like that: handmade “samopal” gauge type in knife hand. Depends of how smart/stupid you are it’s can be spring or fire activated. Life in ussr was weird. And dangerous.
