For a while I avoided airbrushing in my videos for the same reason ("what about viewers who don't own one?"). But I've come to think that the best thing to do is just paint how we paint, and viewers can decide for themselves if they are gaining value from that and/or want to try airbrushing etc etc. I mean, I think most of the biggest channels in our niche use airbrushes to some extent.
@52Miniatures3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I remember it, before making videos and before I had an airbrush. If the video was based on airbrush I kind of stopped watching because... well... what’s the point really. I think my videos are a bit different, hopefully... trying to just be randomly inspirational and not necessarily technic specific. But I still feel the line line in the sand...
@7sharp9b53 жыл бұрын
The other great thing about oils when used after an airbrush is the oils acts as a filler for all those microscopic stipples the airbrush creates. You have to get it thin enough though and its acts like a smoothing filter to leave behind a lovely creamy blend, really great for large areas of skin like goblins and orks.

I'm impressed that you had a whole list of "get betters" for one mini. I usually pick one thing at a time or I get overwhelmed! Black lining/recess shading a mini is one of those tricks that really levels up a paintjob. I usually use gray, brown, or blue though depending on the surrounding colors. Adding a little flow improver to your paint helps a ton also!

This is a Chaos Champion with plasma pistol. Fun fact, back then, most chaos miniatures were universal for both Rogue Trader 40k and Warhammer Fantasy. So he was just as likely to squirt hot plasma at Space Marines as he was at Dwarfs. And people still say old Warhammer was grimdark low fantasy and Age of Sigmar is too sci-fi... Also, the reason he was so soft and easy to drill into might be because Citadel Miniatures used to have a blend of lead in them before they switched to their 'white metal' alloy. So, you know, try not to eat him, just to be safe.

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but one of the most successful styles of blacklining I've seen is to use thinned down oil paints and letting the capillary action pull the paint into the crevices without having to actually do more than a few quick dots of paint to act as reservoirs of color. Oh wow snap, I just grabbed some Golden high flow paints to use with the new airbrush, apparently they are perfect for just spraying straight from the pot. Its been somewhat hit and miss for me getting the consistency right for finer details, maybe its the 0.2mm needle needs a little more accuracy in getting that right constancy. Annoyingly the first two minis I painted worked just fine but since then its been difficult to get right. I had the opposite idea to you, I thought if I started a channel with a lot more airbrush stuff it would fill in a beginner sized hole to show the exploration through my hobby experience. Its somewhat difficult to find videos that show air brushing from an exploratory or beginners point of view. Of course Ive also had to buy those new golden paints and some miniatures to start this journey properly! :-)

KEKEKE! I HAVE THAT ONE! Chopped off his flamer and added a different sword... like 25 years ago. I see someone has already given the correct answer. Oh man, "What paints taste nice..." I've never, ever done that. Ever. But then again, when I was 17 I worked at a painting company for just one day, and they did, in fact, point out that all paints are chemical, and that if you want to develop interesting mutations you ingest paint. Myeah. Anyway, back to mini painting, I switched to canvas during the summer, but now it is dark outside again. I can take one cup of coffee per day, any more and I turn into hyper-me. And that's bad.

I'm not sure what is worse, coffee or paint 😂 Jokes aside. I think not eating paint is a good recipe for survival.

@@52Miniatures Hmm... tough choice. Paint will kill me in the long run, but too much coffee quickly turns me into a wreck as I won't sleep. I'm gonna go with... ( odd as that may sound)... coffee! It is nice to go and dig up really old miniatures in the deeper crevasses of the bit boxes is it not?

comes from back in the day when the two games background were not as well fleshed out and they were leaving room to possibly connect the two games. A lot of the chaos stuffs in particular (gods etc) share common attributes and descriptions, although over time the two games were separated. Lore wise there are/were theories about whether/how the two games were connected (including shit GW themselves hinted at) but AoS pretty much nixed that idea.

To me, the pose of this mini resembles the virgin vs chad meme with this odd pose. Looks wise, it reminds me of old school Eldar and Tin boys. But both are more than likely wrong.

I had the most success painting metal minis by priming and then varnishing. Otherwise the paint never stuck well enough to the model in my experience
@52Miniatures3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've been hearing all sorts about metal minis. The ones I've painted so far though, have been fine with just primer and then paint.
@vortex5943 жыл бұрын
if you deal with metal minis a lot, there are primers specifically for the job. scale modelers tend to use them way more than us mini painters, for photo-etched parts and such.

If you're going to prime metal stuff in the future, then consider using Tamiya metal primer, specially designed for this stuff
