Seeing those skintones in the context of the fully painted mini really does make a huge difference! I wasn't really sold on the effect until they were done, but that's pretty impressive when the final mini is complete. I wonder what kind of neat things we can do with other color skin tones....

I know.. I always find minis are difficult to paint until they are done.. What I mean is, it's difficult to get a grasp until most things are in place.

I deeply appreciate your perspective and help. Hoping to be the proud leader of an Orcish warband in Warcrow this year. Have attempted a magenta contrast paint base with thin layers of Nurgle’s Rot over it. Did not know going in that the technical paint would add a slimy gloss finish but hopefully matte varnish knocks that back a bit. Little adjustments aside: I am enamored of this approach and its results. Thank you very much.

I'm thrilled that you're painting some more Warcrow models on the channel. The Varank skin changers are some of the coolest looking minis I've seen in a skirmish game in a while and it's neat seeing them in a green>red skin tone rather than the avatar-esque teal on the box art.

I used a similar technique like this for zombies. Started with a Vallejo Gray Green (the pale one) and went over that in patches with Warpaints pearl skin and then washing it with a mix of reikland flesh shade, wargames strong tone and lamian medium mixed in about equal parts (maybe a touch more medium) its gives a nice gradient of skin going from 'Hey that looks a bit pale to be healthy' to ' lord why is your skin going greenish translucent?'

First of all, love your work. While I don't always agree with stuff you do, there are things to be learned by watching. But I did laugh when you said back to school. In six years of high school my classes were never given instruction on colour theory or mixing colours. My Ork skin starts Rhinox Hide, Dark Angels green, Emerald green and a nice light green with a yellow tint. So as a member of the not everyone, gimme the technique, I'll choose the colours.

One of the only codex style books I've kept from older editions is the Warmachine book for the faction The Retribution of Scryah, an elf faction that has a really beautiful sort of teal and green thats made by mixing in burgundy for the shadows. The PP method is applied quite differently to this, but the idea ends up in a similar space, with those rich interesting hues. This green glazing method is another great tool for my toolbox, and the video is masterfully made as always

In the last video the fact that Citadel paints didn't cover well, turned out to be a feature, instead of a bug, because you discovered a way of painting skin that you liked. I mean you can always thin paints to make them not cover well, but experimenting can help with discovering stuff like this.

@@paddya3304 Trying to get people to click videos is surprisingly difficult. A subculture seems to have been created that does not engage in videos that say "I found a neat way to paint orcs". @@52Miniatures I can imagine, it's no coincidence that so many KZbin folk use very clickbaity titles (not something I'm accusing you of). Again, I didn't mean to be critical of the title. Admittedly, not particularly funny (and I can understand why it might be a sore subject) but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I genuinely enjoy your videos and wish you nothing but success.

It’s always the same, isn’t it? Don’t paint orcs (or elves, dwarves, undead, etc.) like that! Paint them like this! I’ve been painting orcs all my life and this is how you should do it too! Yadda yadda. Just look at this colour wheel and I’ll prove it! What I would like to know is whether anyone has asked the orcs how they want to be painted! Doesn’t their opinion count for anything? Evidently not. Not only have they been maligned as the embodiment of primitive evil, oh no, their voice has been silenced, their culture suppressed, commodified, and subject to the artistic whim of Johnny Human. Bloody typical! No wonder the world’s the way it is, on the one hand you’ve got corporations who only care about selling plastic figures and paint and KZbin ‘content creators’ wanting to look like artistic geniuses!!! And we all fall for it! Happy Orctober my arse!!
