If you ever get to see one underneath,you will see the true beauty of a lancia. Everything,and I mean everything was designed to purpose . I worked for a while in a resto shop where one had been undergoing a long resto, 20 years long. The owner was man of modest means so when ever funds would allow, he got further work done. He actually named his Daughter Aurelia... when she turned 21 she was given the car for her Birthday. www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/my-1954-lancia-aurelia-27164

Back in 1966, when I was 18 and having just bought my first car, a 1937 Armstrong Siddeley 14 H.P., I was looking in a local scrapyard for anything which could be of help to me in restoring it. Just off to one side was was one of these Aurelia's and even in its parlous condition it looked gorgeous. I think Lancia must be considered as the Italian Citroen, companies which considered engineering first and the bean counting decidedly second. When both concerns were absorbed by their rival countrymen I often wonder if some degree of jealousy made both Peugeot and Fiat set about watering down their erstwhile rivals to satisfy their own egos.

Honestly, the popularity of restomods, outlaws and reimaginations is, I believe, an indictment of modern cars. As good, reliable, fast and entertaining as modrrn cars are they have lost a fundamental 'feel' that older vehicles simply just have. There is character in the shapes, a candidness to how they drive that is lacking today's cars. Henry put it perfectly at 1:44, the car talks to you. An old car feels like an active participant in the drive where a newer one feels like conveyence; fast, reliable, spacious or well built conveyence, but just conveyence none the same.
@AyoHues6 жыл бұрын
tqdzwa maramba Couldn’t agree with you more. As a petrol head all my life, my advice: get a motorcycle. It’s the only way you can still enjoy the thrill of motoring on everyday roads these days. For driving cars, you need the dead of night, track days or wait for the occasional summertime blast in a very remote area (if you can arrange it.)
@FSXairpilot6 жыл бұрын
@@AyoHues Motorcycles are a completely different experience compared to cars. I agree on them being a thrill in motoring, but many wont take the risk. While we fetishize about "feel" majority of people want safe economical cars that are reliable as well which influence what car manufactures make today. Lastly Lancias weren't exactly known to be reliable
@LesAventuresDeTigRRe6 жыл бұрын
We need a company to start building modern cars with that "old school" feeling. Maybe something in the likes of a BMW E30: inline 6, sporty but comfy, modern materials, 200hp, 1000kg, 2 doors, 4 seats, nice interior with buttons and real gauges, 6 speed manual gear, good visibility, a real spare, a 2DIN space to accomodate whichever radio you like, chrome bumpers, and that's it. Cheap 15" tyres for winter, 17" for summer. NO touchscreens with dodgy menus and useless stuff NO rear cameras and sensors NO electric boot NO fake exhausts NO brittle plastics and plastic chromes Less systems means less stuff to break. Throw in good engineering, easy maintenance, stainless steel chassis (we're allowed to dream) and you got yourself a nice car that lasts a lifetime. Under 50k should be possible, I know I'd buy it.

@@AyoHues I agree with you totally; I've had a motorcycle before (Bandit 250) but had a mildly bad accident and haven't ridden since.
