The Unrigging of Drag Race All Stars 3

Drag Race All Stars 3 is known as one of the twistiest seasons of them all. The crazy self-elimination by frontrunner BenDeLaCreme, the last minute jury twist, and the return of a previous winner! Even Trixie Mattel coming off as the eventual winner rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. Lots of aspects came together from producers to try and make this season bigger and better than All Stars 2. But based on the fan reception, it failed on that front.
So where exactly did producers intervene to help move the season along? In a season that is notorious for its riggory, I go episode by episode, ranking the queens' performances in each challenge, and determining how the placements should have went if the season was judged fairly. How will this affect the final 4? Will fan favs like Trixie Mattel and BenDeLaCreme still make deep runs in the season?

Chi Chi was dealing with a degenerative disease during the season. I agree she wasn’t at her best, I’m just letting you know because you mentioned you didn’t know what was going on with her. She mentioned in interviews that her mobility was limited and the cost to do AS3 because she know this was her last opportunity to showcase her drag before dancing became almost impossible. This might be true, I'm sure she was feeling the effects by then... but All Stars 3 filmed in 2017. She was diagnosed in 2018 and didn't publicly speaking about losing her ability to dance until 2020. When she agreed to do All Stars 3, she had no reason to believe her ability to move was in jeopardy.

I feel like Ben still would have offered herself up for elimination so somewhere she would have told Bebe to cut her and Bebe probably would have taken her out instead of Trixie. Then everything would play out the same probably with Trixie and Thorgy being in the top in the acting challenge. Thorgy would probably win the lipsync against Trixie but regardless it's just natural at this point to send home the returning queen. Then we end up with a top 4 of Trixie, Thorgy, Bebe, Aja and if we just take the two with the best top record then it would be Aja and Thorgy in the top 2 with the winner being... I guess the one with more wins since they're both tied in this scenario of points per episode, which is Aja. That's my take on it at least.

I disagree. Ben didn’t have bottom placement originally, and kept winning consecutively, While in this scenario, not only does Ben not get consecutive wins, but also has bottom placement. So, I dont think we would get the Ben Delachrist moment.

I think there’s a tendency to discredit Trixie a little more than is deserved because she’s done so well and stans do overhype her to an extent. A lot of DDs critiques of her are very valid and I agree with them, but then they seems reluctant to really praise her when she did do well. Like she did so well in the girl group challenge and had a win, idk if at that point in the competition Bebe would eliminate her from that challenge when she’s against someone with no wins and a low placement. I liked Thorgys verse but I don’t think it would have been enough to save her over Trixie that episode. And in general they tended to place Thorgy in the higher ‘neutral’ positions (when she was in a middle placement) and Trixie lower ones. But it’s all personal opinions and we’ll never know what really happened bc editing, I enjoyed seeing how it played out (and honestly as soon as the decision was made that Dela didn’t eliminate herself then she was going to win regardless 😂)

I knowwwww, to me the video stopped making sense when Thorgy was kept over Trixie. Also, Thorgy doing better than Dela on both the girl group thing and the soup design challenge felt more like wishful thinking from a fan rather than based on her actual abilities. It's still pretty fun to think about how the season could've gone, but I think the Top 4 would probably be Bebe, Aja, Shangela and Dela, not Thorgy (if the producers weren't trying so hard to rob Aja, of course).

I do want throw a wrench in the whole “Bebe threw the lipsync” thing that everyone assumes when Dela eliminated herself. Had Bebe done what she did at regular bar, everyone would’ve loved it. It was an emotional song and Bebe taking her wig off just added to it. Not to mention that Bebe did the same thing on Season 1 which won her the lipsync. While I can’t guarantee Bebe didn’t throw the lipsync, I do think that Bebe taking her wig off wasn’t her giving up.

Aja did a solid job and had a superb runway. Still, I do think Thorgy would do well at Snatch Game. Heck I think she did as well as Bob in S8 but then kimonogate happened so neither Thorgy or Derrick even had a chance.

I almost stopped watching when I reached the Soup Can/Studio 54 episode, but continued till the end just to see the outcome. In terms of MYLK as Celine Dion, I can say this: Celine was one of the last concerts I saw before the pandemic started. And I know for a fact that Celine does not over-accentuate herself and her movements when she's performing, unlike what MYLK did. Even when she's hitting the big notes, she keeps her body more natural and smooth. The most I think she does is hold her arms out or something, but she doesn't dance around or go crazy on-stage. What MYLK was doing, it was more like Lady GaGa, who actually gives a big and crazy performance on stage. But with her, even when she's doing her slower or mid-tempo songs, she goes over-the-top in a way because that's how she presents herself on stage. She has the big voice, she has the big costumes and productions, so it makes sense for her. Celine isn't like that. While she has the poppier songs sometimes (That's The Way It Is being an example), her physical performance isn't as loud or over-the-top as someone like GaGa. So no, MYLK did not give an accurate Celine performance by ANY stretch.

Finally someone who agrees that shangela did not 'kill' as3. Everybody talks about how shangela was robbes and she dominated the season, but the thing is, she basically performed at a solid 3/5 for the entire season and the girls around her bombed. The 9bly challenge she did really well in was the one set up for her to win and the talent show. Shangela should of done great in challenges such as the bitchellor, girl group, snatch game and the final acting challenge but instead just came off as okay in all of them, a competent performance while others floundered.

To me the best talent show performances are the ones where queens show something you normally wouldn’t see on Drag Race. Performances like Thorgy, Gia, Latrice etc stand out for me because of that. Seeing a queen just sing or dance or do comedy just doesn’t interest me as much because you see that on Drag Race normally

AS3 is one of my all time least favorite seasons. I thought maybe I was just disappointed at the time because it was such a downgrade from AS2, but I rewatched all the AS seasons recently and it only reinforced my dislike for the season. There was just a lot of uncomfortable moments in the werk room plus Thorgy and Aja's eliminations were super frustrating. I feel like they were able to justify Trixie winning without a lip sync win since just recently Sasha Velour had won without any form of main wins at all. Trixie had done pretty good throughout the season and it was evident a few times she was being held back by certain things. (Milk ruining the Bitchelor, Shangela's fat suit "comedy")

I live for Aja and Thorgy as part of the top 4. Ignoring literaly everything, my ideal top 4 would have been Aja, Thorgy, Dela and Shangela, just based on personal preference.

Kennedy wouldve def sent Aja home, I wouldn’t want her to but Kennedy would’ve never sent home Chichi, as we saw with Roxxy emotions play a big role and I doubt she’d take into account Aja’s slayage thus far since she did mediocre in the challenge

Truth be told, Milk almost fell because her heel got stuck in the tambourine when she was dancing in the back of Thorgy's performance so both Kennedy and her should have been in the bottom. I completely agreed with the video in that part.

I disagree with 3 things. Trixie should have been in the top for the kitty girl group challenge. It’s not about branding yourself it’s about creating a character. She did that so well. I think while I do enjoy Aja they were given a little bit too much high treatment/praise. And I also think Ben would have still gone home the episode they did. I think she would have asked to go home because she wanted to be done or something like that.

BeBe was actually my least favorite out of the kitty girls challenge. She didn’t really write a verse (when half of the verse is utter nonsense I call it a cop out) and her lip sync was off. Also the challenge didn’t ask queens to brand themselves to their drag personas. It was to create a Spice Girls style character. So to criticize Trixie for IQ Kitty not being “in the Trixie brand” I think is kind of a silly and unfair critique. Tbh out of the queens only really Trixie, Ben, Aja, Thorgy and sure BeBe actually accomplished what was asked of them in that regard.

(again, not being shady, don’t know what to call it) above actual performances//displays of talent (singing, dancing, quintessential lip-syncing)?! really? seriously? i’m supposed to believe + accept that Milk’s velcro-ripping//paper doll thing is not only talent, but more talent//better than actual singing, dancing, gymnastics?! b|c Chi Chi’s wig was flat + her dance shoes were ugly?? i-huh?? even worse, audience reactions//engagement should not be a factor _at all_ since we have absolutely no idea how the audience actually responded to each performer. we only know what the editors//producers want us to see. we already know since they mix up the footage of the audience to suit their narrative. it could have been silent in the studio, w| not a single audience member blinking or breathing during Milk’s time on stage. but….you know that. your channel is about the manipulation, the riggory, exposing the edit. so…why mention audience response as a factor to justify Milk’s placement? this video is supposed to be about what it would’ve been like w|o or despite the editing + the video starts by….ignoring that//using it to justify a wild decision//placement. i’m confused, i am. actually…no i’m not. Milk is the definition of privilege. walking, talking, breathing, velcro-ripping privilege. the problem is, it’s so insidious it shows up + is subconsciously (giving the benefit of the doubt here) upheld//perpetuated even in instances designed to call it out. wild. + disappointing. :0/ RIPower, Chi Chi! you deserve better.🖤✊🏾

I was trying to predict your eliminations just based on your bottom 2/3 and got it right every single time. I just Googled Dela’s birthday to discover she is a Libran, which is totally what I guessed. She’s pleasant (even congenial 😉), calculating, extremely talented, intelligent, very concerned about fairness, and hates confrontation. Interestingly, she has the same birthday as Chi Chi, who contrarily to Dela, is always on the bottom.

I honestly thought Shangela was horrible at the Bitchelor. Chichi at least got a laugh out of me. Also on Kennedy, I think Trixie and Katya have said that the full performance was even better than what we saw and a lot was cut. I would have had Bebe keep Trixie over Thorgy. The longer Thorgy stayed in that workroom, the less Bebe would like her:) If you kept Trixie there, then it would be Dela and Trixie top two on the next challenge, Dela would cut Shangela and then win the season. I think though that you should have tried to keep the jury twist.

Sue me but I think Trixie was better than Bebe in the girl group challenge. I thought she did better in the challenge, and I also think she had the hardest part of going first, she had to set the energy for the whole song, whereas the other girls could feed off of the last one's energy, and then Bebe basically got a freebie going last so she could do literally anything that would work for a gaggy/funny/crazy finale to make the judges laugh. And I preferred Trixie's challenge look to Bebe's.

I’m sorry, but Aja, yes could’ve made it longer, but I think was given a few too many wins in this video. Wins that Trixie definitely deserved. I think Trixie was amazing in almost all of the challenges (obviously not snatch game) and during the actual season I think she earned more wins than she was given credit for.
