The Unspeakable Things Pope John XII Did During His Reign

Жыл бұрын

“Our” pope, John XII, ruled over Western Christendom from 955-963 some six hundred years after
Pope Damasus. Damasus had been appointed by the Emperor Theodosius, but by the time of John XII,
popes were elected by the people of Rome. Well, that's kind of misleading, for while the people of the
city did vote for the pope, the vast majority of those votes were bought by powerful families who either
had a son or other family member “running” for the position. Essentially, the position of pope went to
the highest bidder. What's more the candidates for the position were oftentimes not exactly “paragons
of virtue.”
As a matter of fact, some of them, like John XII did not know or care much about religion at
all. What many popes and their backers cared about was POWER, and in the Middle Ages, the pope
was considered infallible. In other words, he could make no mistakes, at least as far as it concerned
most the people.
Kings and emperors were another matter, and at many times in history, the popes were tools of those
who held military power. The pope, however, held the balance, for winning the pope over to your side
was costly. In return for his support, rulers often had to pay bribes, give up land and at least to some
degree, listen to what the pope “suggested”, for the pope had the ultimate weapon - excommunication.
Being “excommunicated” meant that a person was no longer able to take part in Church rites. The
practices, such as Holy Communion, confession, and attending Mass. Without these rites and practices,
a person could NOT ever ascend to Heaven, and could not, at least in theory, associate with any
Christian, and all of the Christians in Western Europe at the time were Catholic.
The pope had
tremendous power.
John XII
Before he took his “papal name” of John, he was known as “Octavianus.” His father, the powerful ruler
of Rome, Duke Alberic II, named him after the first Roman emperor, Octavian - also known as
Augustus, for Alberic wanted his son to follow him not only as the political leader of Rome, but as
pope. Alberic's family, the Tusculum clan, had ruled the area for decades. They were rich, powerful and
respected, and Alberic himself was well-loved. After his death in 954, the rich and powerful in Rome
made certain that Octavianus was elected pope, and the 18 year old became one of the most powerful
and richest men in the world as “John XII.”

I was born and raised Catholic. It's quite difficult to reconcile our flavor of Christianity with Christian values given the history and current realities of the church. I wonder how far back one has to go in order to find a version of the church that is worthy of our loyalty in faith.

Hi. The Answer is EVERY CENTURY. Your Catholic Faith is God’s gift to you, how you respond is your gift to Him! The current reality is that the Church is currently in a Spiritual battle the likes of which has never been seen before. We need you to get off the bench and help us.please Read: The Secrets of the Holy Face By Fr Carney And any book about Padre Pio Read them as a child, it’s the only way God can work w us, we are nothing. Then try looking into Maximilian Kolbe and you will never be the same-4 hours invested, you will have a chance to make Angels cry!

No one actually needs a church to develop a closer relationship with their Creator. Fellowship, maybe, but that doesn't need to come from a church.
@joachimjustinmorgan4851

@@JaySyzdek that’s not what scripture teaches and whatever creditor you’re talking about, it isn’t Christ. - Hebrews 10:25 ““Not forsaking our assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.” - “Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation, and to doctrine. Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.” ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭ - “Obey your Church leaders (εκκλησιαστικούς σας ηγέτες ), and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭17‬ ‭DRC1752‬‬ - “And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven. Again I say to you, that if two of you shall consent upon earth, concerning any thing whatsoever they shall ask, it shall be done to them by my Father who is in heaven. For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” ‭‭St Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭ - aside from those specific passages, why would Paul write letters about how to select Priests? (Protestants translate Presbyter as “elder” after the gospels, either way though, even still) how would “Episcipis, “Bishops,” select “elders,” (really priests) unless there was a Church that people attended? No, you are leeching another gospel than what Christ gave the Church and what the Apostles taught. You should search the scriptures and tell me where the causal “fellowship,” without a Church that you’re advocating is explained because it ain’t in the Bible. That might sound very modern and religious, but it ain’t Christianity. Not by a long shot.

Back then, people tended to mature quicker. Maybe it was due to the harsher way of life. Don't forget that Alexander the Great became king at the age of 20. Cyrus the Great became king at the age of 21. So it had less to do with his age, and more to do with him being a very bad candidate for pope.

I think the title of Pontificus Maximus has much less weight in determining the origins of the papacy simply because it was a title long used by the Caesars of Rome. It was common practice which allowed the emperor to seize control of Rome's religious leadership and influence over the people. I think perhaps the first exclusive usage of the term "pope" ("papa" in Latin and "pappas" in Greek), a common practice by the 9th century, provides a better picture of when the papacy became an official title of the Roman church. It was restricted the Bishop of Rome by the 11th century. Thus I think the papacy grew out of the political machinations of the western bishops in order to gain supremacy over their longtime rivals in the east and by the 9th century, they had largely achieved that.

The Priest beside Jesus and Melchizedek who gain their priets hood through Divinity (Born priest), most of them married and NOT even one. The Bible does not say anywhere, a priest cannot marry and or have children. it is only Paul who a Pagan, who perscecuted christians until his enounter with Jesus on his way to Damascus that suggested (mere self reflection) that, one could serve the Lord better if one MARRY the Church and NOT a woman. His reason I beleive has to do with the challenges that comes with marraige and family as against spiritual leadership. So yes, there are so man children fathered by priest and it is not a new phenomena or an abomination. Catholic church is the only body of Chrits that is enforcing Paul's caution. It is not a from God, but man's wish. Recently Pope Francis in speaking about this issue stated the idea of priest not marrying was more on discipline than doctrine but that, he beleive, like a soldier obeys the commands, priest must learn to obey the churchs rulesand regualtions as an institution. In orther words, if you cannot abstain, do not join them. It is not a force.

Yes it was officially pronounced at that council. Let’s not forget that from the beginning the early Christians all believed it to be so. I think theres probably a bit of hyperbole in his comparison of the two. Im not saying John XII wasnt a terrible pope and person, but Elagabalus was a whole different level of depraved. He tried to surgically make himself into a woman in a time before that thing had even been fathomed , married what would be the equivelant of a nun nowadays (Vestal Virgin) just for shock, and paraded around proudly with a slave he called his 'husband'. We had to articulate who Christ was, whether He was divine, how He was divine, etc. etc. Often times it's a necessity to come together and articulate the truth which has been given through the Holy Spirit.

Both sides of my father's family, all from Rome and Lazio, claim descent from the Knights of Tusculum (Tusculani)----Alberico's clan (his brother Octaviano was made Pope at 18 as John XII---the subject of this video---His mother Marozia, had a younger sister Theodora---She married into the house of the Crescentii , who are the ancestors of the Crescenzi-Serlupi and di Cenci families...Theodora of Tusculum would be my 30th or 31st great grandmother----The Crescentii also had a string of really, really really bad Popes during the 11th c. One of them, a Benedict, actually SOLD the Papal office when he grew tired of the responsibility----the only Pope on record who ever did so....He later had a change of heart when he realized the power he was relinquishing, and bought it back...He proved very difficult to get rid of, and is regarded as having three separate Pontificates---Because so many Popes sprang from the local grandees and urban nobility of Rome, we can trace a blood connection to dozens of Pontiffs---most of whom reigned well before the modern era, when the Counter-Reformation did its best to clean up the worst abuses and corruption of the Vatican....

I'm not a relegious man by any means, I have chosen to just have faith and doing good by following at very least the ten commandments. Relegion is man made, as such it is subject to corruption, greed and unholy agenda-case in point. It is not bad to have a relegion and I personally respect all other relegions, it's just sad that people of power from the past and the present have abused their position mostly not for the greater good for all but for them.
