This vehicle which i never saw before connects my long standing head cannon for how Luke got back to his X-wing despite being among the Imperial Walkers when he was shot down- after he destroyed the AT-AT with a grenade in the under carriage he hitched a ride back to the Rebel fall back position on some sort of Starwars version of a Jeep (which surely the Rebels had something like that) This vehicle fits perfect- its like a Jeep with a Recoilless rifle mounted on the back as for what the cannons could do- I think the gun has two heavy repeater blasters (starwars equivalent of .50 caliber) and one light Laser Cannon (starwars equivalent of 37mm or 50mm) At best the Snow Jeep could defeat an AT-ST but nothing heavier. the Repeating blasters were extremely effective against infantry and light speeders But not an AT-ST or anything with basic armor. Snow Jeep should be a repulsor lift vehicles that uses Skies as well because when firing its drive core is entirely used for its cannons (it cannot shoot and move at the same time) also when running it would use the Skies to avoid hitting its frame when going over the snow and when moving at slow speeds

Just an idea, but maybe it's both repulsorlift and ski? If it's base task (or a designed feature) was the ability to bore through ice, being able to lift completely is probably unnecessary. (And possibly a hazard in tunnels.) So the skis keep it grounded but still mobile, the repulsorlift makes it effectively a bit lighter and functions as propulsion.

Very good points. It's probably more akin to a halftrack, too. Though many halftracks were outfitted as tank destroyers anyway.
@t60-flying953 жыл бұрын
@@ECHenry I like to think that from the three guns we see (1 main 2 secondary on top) that is some sort of composite weapons sistem, being that the main gun fires a constant beam of energy (the laser originally designed to cut ice but powered up to military grade use by the rebels as a stopgap gun) and the 2 smaller barrels on top of it actas either rapid firing blaster canons or slower firing light laser canons Creating a type of light anti-armor plus light anti air platform, that could be either towed around or moved with an small engine (even if it was a little bit slow) or even used as light troop transport via removing the weapons and adding armored rooft and back doors (just like the soviets did with the komsomolets arty tractor , putting a 57mm ZiS-2 (zis-30) or putting a couple of planks so 6 soldiers could ride it)

2:31 That’s not a tank destroyer, that’s a self-propelled howitzer. There’s no way in hell you could make direct-fire precision shots on tanks with that thing.
@matthiuskoenig33782 жыл бұрын
its a lorraine schlepper and yes while it was a SPH on paper, the germans used it mostly in the direct fire role according to the reports by the units that used them. the reason you wouldn't use it against tanks is it lacked a anti-tank shell, it was only ever issued HE and smoke shells. the gun was more accurate than similar weapons the germans used against tanks on other mounts and dismounted, however, that were quite effective against tanks so i don't see why it would be 'too inaccurate'. I think you have taken arcadey computer games like WoT too seriously.
@babylon2182 жыл бұрын
Honestly, it reminds me of the British Army's WWII-era 'Universal Carrier': a lightly-armoured tracked vehicle which was used as a tractor, personnel carrier, ammunition carrier, gun tractor, and also a Self-propelled anti-tank gun (they bolted a 2-pdr gun onto the thing and there was just enough room for the crew and ammunition supply). I believe there were also variants fitted with MGs as primitive IFVs. I could easily imagine the rebels taking a cargo sled with this basic form and bolting a massive laser/turbo laser onto it for anti-armour duty.

The rebels did a lot of repurposing surplus or civilian equipment, so it fits in universe, but it also harkens back to a lot of the improvised vehicles used in WW2 with artillery pieces and steel plates mounted on agricultural tractors or existing chassis to make impromptu tank destroyers. That Star Wars so heavily draws on WW2 just makes it fit in all the more. It's the Star Wars equivalent to the M3 Gun Motor Carriage.
