Banana pudding, a dessert often featuring layers of vanilla custard, crispy vanilla wafers or ladyfingers, and freshly sliced bananas, is a classic treat beloved by many. When served in a dish, it's sometimes served with a dollop of whipped cream or a meringue.
This dessert has become deeply embedded in the culinary traditions of Black communities, where it has been embraced and celebrated as a cherished part of their culture and gatherings. The adaptation and elevation of banana pudding within these communities highlight its significance beyond a mere dessert, making it a symbol of shared history.

at 3:45: I had a "record scratch" moment.. hearing the mention of fried banana slices... oh... my... goodness.. > part of why I like bananas foster, etc.. that'd be a game-changer to add a bit of caramelization to the bananas.. -might not be a bad idea to try to run some homemade vanilla cookies; squares might seem more efficient for the pan as well. sponge cake /trifle style or ladyfingers, to go to the origins, might be an interesting play on things as well.

😋 haven't had banana pudding in awhile. Africans who were enslaved in America brought alot of food, drums and string instruments over from Africa. Our contributions made the soul of America. The banjo was brought over from West Africa via the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. They entertained mazza with soulful music, church music, the country music that was stolen now called country music. It's normal music the music Beyonce is singing. That use to be church music. Change the words around and put Jesus in it. Amen 🙏 ✝️

I think it is a bit of a sweeping statement that blacks love banana pudding. I am in my 60s and I don't think I have had banana pudding in my life. In fact, I have never seen it made or presented at family reunions, cookouts, or other get-togethers. Nor has it ever come up in conversations. It seems if it is such a popular dish I would have at least heard it mentioned in passing. Maybe it's a regional thing, I don't know, but it is definitely not ubiquitous among blacks.

Everybody loves banana pudding. It’s NOT a black thing. Moms did homemade custard with wafers. It’s universally popular.

I bet it's a lot of food and desserts dating back to slavery white people first saw black people make but we weren't credited for it.. Black people have a history of known to be great cooks..

I can't eat that. All blacks do not love banana pudding. I can't stand to smell it. Stop speaking for all of us. Say some. Hell, you can even say most that (you) know love it. I don't. My kids don't. Don't know whether my grands do since I don't make it. Maybe the other relatives do. Don't know. Don't care. And my ancestors come from Africa.
