Absolutely brilliant! This makes me think every pirate is actually looking for/inspired by Joyboy in some roundabout way but each have their own twisted perception of what Joyboy is. This makes even more sense with the reveal that Joyboy was the first pirate meaning every pirate after him is technically emulating him but most misinterpret his "way of piracy". Oda is a master at bringing everything back to the same theme or message.

I wouldn’t say they misrepresent Joy Boy’s way of piracy at all. Luffy is like all those other pirates the second you piss him off. And Luffy’s trigger is, like other purates, frequently a minor issue when you think about it.

Big Mom somehow, be it experiments or some happenstance got exposed to Ancient technology, drug which makes person bigger and stronger in exchange for heightened metabolism or something like that. Experiments on children in Punk Hazard were an attempt to recreate those original drugs, basically everything they did there was attempting to recover lost technology, but those imperfect inventions had much higher side effects. At least this is what makes the most sense to me.

17:16- What I do think is that Xebec was able to get her to shape up literally/metaphorically and be somewhat more rational- the difference between herself while on the cruel and her current self- which is essentially a crone version of her childhood is far too immense and implies to me at least, he was a positive influence in getting her to her potential good future before Roger well-intentioned, but unintentionally led her back to her bad timeline by ridding her of that positive-ish influence.

Big mom is my favorite character. There is so much untold, so much behind how epic she really is. She, if not for Luffy would have become the Queen of the Pirates. She also didn't necessarily lose, she was dropped from the sky.

One thing I thought about when you mentioned Rocks trying to become Joyboy in a sense. What if Rock was a past Gomu Gomu user? If Rocks died in Marine custody sometime before Roger’s execution that would line up the fruit to be in Marine custody for Shanks to steal years later. In a sense it would be that Rocks had everything in the world to actually be Joyboy. He’s a D clan member, he had the Gomu Gomu, but he was just the wrong person in the wrong time, like Roger and many of the old generation.

This makes a lot of sense, especially with what Rayleigh said- that the straw hats might come to a different conclusion upon learning the history of the world. If the dreams of the major pirates are all efforts of emulating some ‘truth’ found in the poneglyphs, and potentially the one piece itself, it would make sense that the ones closest to it develop similar visions, and those working with second or third hand knowledge increasingly twisted parodies of the actual message, as well as the roger pirates being cautious of unduely influencing newcomers, lest they also jump to wrong conclusions

Big Mom may had her own goals, but from what i can see both her and Whitebeard were the least treacherous of the Rocks Pirates. And considering how they followed him to God Valley, it is clear Whitebeard had came to be somewhat loyal to Rocks and Big Mom came to prioritize Rock's goals over her own. As she was fully focused on getting the Devil Fruits and the Treasure of Hachinosu at God Valley over finding Mother Carmel. I do believe the Rocks Pirates were highly disloyal, but Rocks was so charismatic that by the time God Valley happened, even if they all hated each other, they followed Rocks because they believed in him. Its why Kaido was so affected by his defeat. And also why the crew broke up immediately once he died. Rocks was the only thing that kept them together, without him. It was just chaos.

The chaotic similarities with her child like behaviors to Luffy, make me recall an early theory about her being potentially Luffy Grandma. Can't recall how the family tree would work , but it was based on the Luffu being Hercules. Seeing at the early WCI arc the Greek Myth inspiration. Basically the theory wanted the arc to be the final Labor of Hercules attempting to get cerberus from Hades, where the soul of the dead resided.( 3head dog being Sanji) Big Mom being Rea the Titan, making Garp Cronus. Dogtooth was Hades , Dragon being Zues. Thus the labor completing with Hercules brawling with his uncle(Katakuri in this case) still the elements could still count if only for his weapon to be Biden instead of the Trident. Brook is inspired from Orpheus come on.

Protaganist and Antagonist are not just characters but two ideas going head to head…. Big Mom vs Luffy tells us about upbringing and childhood and how things can differ… Both were brought up basically as orphan… Mother caramel and Dadan are both criminal… and there are so many parallels yet the result is so different… I think rocks crew believed in Rocks because they saw him as JoyBoy… but now the world will know Luffy is JoyBoy I bet Kaido and BigMom will fight as Luffy subordinates

Big Mom was just a child so of course she believed her parents would return. They said they would return so she waited for them to do that, which doesn't make her "not very smart", it makes her a child. Mother Carmel couldn't teach LinLin/Big Mom that murder is bad because she was raising her to be sold to the World Government as an agent. I agree, Big Mom is a tragic character.

Like JoyBoy said, Big Mom has EXTREMELY LIMITED INTELLIGENCE and is very naive. She has let herself be manipulated, all her life, by people who just wanted her for her power. Or to run away from her if they were scared of that same power. I call LinLin "raging pink kaiju witch baby" for a reason: she is eternally a child in mindset, throwing destructive tantrums if she doesn't get what she wants or else if people who promised her something DO NOT deliver on that promise. In her adult years, she removed the freedom of refusal from anyone she "asked" (see 'forced') into alliance with her, mirroring how Carmel, Streusel, and now the officers among her children remove the options of LinLin not following their path of LOGIC... which children NEVER follow reliably. I would refuse to take LinLin into battle as an ally, given the choice. Her destructive tantrums, frequent mood swings, childlike demeanor, and lack of ability to follow plans (even when they go awry) make her extremely unreliable, too many risks I am not willing to take. With Luffy? Similarly naive and limited intelligence, but his emotional intelligence is so great, and his strength so much, that I would be willing to put my trust in him.

I've always believed Big Mom and Luffy would get along spectacularly if there wasn't bad blood between them; the two of them are similar in many ways. Fortunately, there are a lot of leftover threads that can lead to her and Luffy burying the hatchet and becoming allies. Regardless, though, as Luffy's main rival since the timeskip, she really needs to return in Elbaf and have her story appropriately concluded one way or another. Luffy promised he was going to beat all four emperors, and he is currently only 1 for 4, at the moment.

Every Rocks Jonko was caused by the world Kaido: Became strong to survive dragged and selled from his country for money, experimented by the World Goverment -> Plans to start a war against the government Big Mom: A strong kid separated by being too hard to control, dragged into violence by Straus and learning that with violence and power you can get all that you want. -> Peace and equality in the world by force Whitebeard: Life of hardships and poverty, went to the sea to form a family and whatever money he got, he gave it to his country to allow them to live on peace. -> Has the power to destroy the world, yet he uses it to protect his family from it.

I would not say she has low intelligence though. She is like that one brilliant friend who constantly does some dumb unhinged shit out of nowhere. For one, she built one of the most formidable pirate crews and empires in the One Piece world out of nothing. I feel mad that people think that she was weak/stupid when she fell short. She was judged the harshest compared to other Yonkos, who also fell short occasionally: Shanks lost his arm to some random sea king in the middle of fucking nowhere; Blackbeard showed terror when Bepo attacked him; Kaido did not defeat the samurais in a short amount of time. Nobody doubts Shanks, Blackbeard, or Kaido's merits, yet, BM was constantly underestimated.

I think at some point big mom had more intelligence than she had when Luffy and crew met her. I think it's likely that in her teens and mid life she was way less childish. But in her age as she got older she reverted back to her old childlike mindset. Could be from as this video suggested she lost her will to look for mother caramel. And with the loss of hope. She went home and reverted back to her old ways of being a spoiled kid. But I think when she was in zebeks crew she had a purpose and still had hope. But with age and time it was lost.

I still theorize that Luffy will save Pudding somehow, during the Yamato cover story we'll see how Big Mom leaves Wano. She goes home, sees what happened to her kingdom, she runs out guns a blazing but then sees that her daughter is safe and with the Strawhats.... and begrudgingly realizes that they should probably be cool with each other. That's what her role in the story will be.

Luffy was an a-hole. He goes in their snd ruins it simply because he wants to fight Big Mom. And then after pissing her off and it being clear he won’t win he runs away. And heck, their very first confrontation is over the fact that Luffy eats all if what should have been her food. And demanding they fight. Luffy is such a needless arsehole to Big Mom it is unreal.

Big Mom's "dream" is a twisted version of equality based on forcing everyone to conform, getting all races and people together by making them give up what makes them unique. She treated her family like dolls in a playhouse and made siblings turn on each other for her favor. Don't forget she also forced the inhabitants to give up pieces of their souls along with 1/6th of their lifespan.

Idk if I would equate capacity for violence to freedom when Big Mom was born
