Why claw marks tho. Everything I have seen about BB; no theories counted just in manga and anime I have personally seen; suggests that BB has no set of claws or other items that would of left those scars. So what if Shanks scared himself but because BB was threatening someone. Just throwing the thought out there... simply put; there are no good reasons I have heard to explain the scar and exactly why its as it is. All BB is a mthyical Zoan off shoots fail to actually explain why its like it is. The 3 marks are really close to each other; and Dogstorm and Catviper were in terrible moods at the time so I actually think they or some Zoonitian makes a better reason for the scar than BB. It fits the scars shape better. So then why "believe" it was BB??? That is the true secret of Black Beard that Oda has been hiding. BB's original abilities that he was MANUFACTURED with.

In regards to Shanks' statement in chapter 1054 about going to claim the One Piece, one interpretation I can think of is that he means to side with Luffy in some way. He makes that statement right after seeing Luffy's new wanted poster, which has his awakened form, and that might mean something to Shanks in relation to the One Piece. Just like Roger wasn't able to unlock whatever it was on Laugh Tale, Shanks maybe won't be able to either without the power of Nika.

An idea that I always had, is that Shanks did not stop Kaido from killing WB at Marineford: he stopped Kaido from siding with WB. Shanks obviously knows something that we don't. But considering his obsession with the arrival with the arrival of the new era, he knew that the death of one of the remnants of Roger's era was necessary for the Dawn of the new Era. Great theory! I hadn’t considered that Shanks getting the Gomugomu is an inversion to Blackbeard getting the Yamiyami, but it makes a lot of sense. All this this theory fits together really well after that, but I can’t like the idea that it’s so predictable that Shanks is just the guardian or the one helping Luffy. Oda gives deep arcs to all of his characters and I believe Shanks’ backstory has to be deep in the same way Kuma’s was. Shanks is more of a mystery than even Kuma was. His connection to his lineage or his past has to be driving his motivation for everything he is doing. When that’s the case, it has to lead back to God Valley, where Roger, his hero and adopted father, helped the Celestial dragons defeat Rocks, who lead the world with corruption, brutality, and lies. Even if Shanks wasn’t seemingly a big part of God Valley, he was born there and had to have a big connection to that event. The other thing I think can be addressed in his arc is his abnormally powerful Haki. Why is it as powerful as it is? His Haki has become a big point of emphasis every time we’ve seen him. Considering we just fought the strongest beast in the world and he didn’t have that and we’re now fighting the Gorosei and they don’t have it, it seems to be something special for Shanks. Maybe not a natural occurrence.

I think that Luffy will intend to fight Shanks, but they'll have to postpone their fight and make an alliance, to face another alliance between Blackbeard and Buggy, but the fight will never happen because Shanks will die in that war. Also, I think that Blackbeard will kill Shanks, and that the prophecy says that Joyboy will be the one to defeat him. I also think that shanks will take one of Blackbeards eye, (you have a lot of instances in the series where someone pays the price for mocking someone scar). This will lead to blackebeard wearing the iconic pirate eyepatch.

Thanks for looking in. While Benn took Kidd's arm, the idea of adhering to the prophecy so much as to be a slave to it is intriguing. That blind adherence disqualifies Shanks since he is not free. And much like Luffy may have destroyed Shanks' plans to give the fruit to Ace, so alsohe destroys that obsession with the prophecy that, as you say has guided Shanks' actions. Maybe Shanks and Luffy will fight on Elbaf. But only using Haki, and the next step is Luffy being so free that Gear 5 is no longer tied to the fruit itself, but just Luffy's will and imagination. And with that, Shanks' role is fulfilled as Luffy truly frees him. In reality, true freedom would mean being free from the one real rule of the Devil Fruits too, the users can't swim. And a truly, totally free Luffy might even be able to swim - making him the King who doesn't even need to reach Laughtale to be the one. Hey JoyBoy, I really like your theory especially because I agree with many of the thoughts you expressed. But precisely for this reason I feel the need to add some food for thought: - Why would many important characters such as Roger, Shanks, Teach and others believe so strongly in a prophecy? - Why would the prophecy have been so precise? - Why are many characters compared as identical to others from the past (luffy/roger, zoro/ryuma, vivi/lili and so on)? - Finally, why was Toki looking for someone in the future, and for what? I think that things are all connected and that perhaps the key is precisely in Toki, she can only go forward into the future but I think that a character will appear who can only go to the past and that at the end of the series the Mughiwara will travel to the past by writing the "prophecy" of Joyboy who has literally always been luffy. OR an Assassin's Creed story-style explanation in which the characters of the D's will have the destiny of "reincarnating" in the future and following the path of their ancestors. what do you think about it?

My theory always was Beckman was probably a former marine who was about to be killed by cp9 after discovering luffys fruit. He decides to leave the marines after Shanks saves him and he joins the crew (similar to zoro i guess). But even after gaining a crew and losing to Blackbeard shanks realizes he needs someone strong so he recruits Yassop. (This is probably hinted at because he hides his scar while meeting yassop). Not only that Yassop couldve had a higher bounty than the entire crew already. (Branew even states that they would have one the highest Average bounties on sea) meaning they all have over 1 billion

An interesting idea I had watching this video: So, Oda loves devil fruits that are not what they initially appear to be: e.g. Luffy’s fruit was not a paramecia, but a Zoan. Also, notice how many of the “Bad-guys” are Logia fruit users. I think there’s an implication that Zoan-fruit and Logia fruit are the natural enemies of each other. So maybe Zoan fruits were originally called “Heavenly fruits” and the Logia “Devil Fruits”, but the true name of the Zoan fruits was erased from history. Zoan can be “Mythical” and grant the powers of gods, and Logia can actually take powers away (as evidenced by Blackbeard). This makes Logia the natural enemy of the Gods. What else can counter devil fruit powers? Haki. Consider: Luffy is not the only mythical “Human Human” fruit user. There are different models. So what if the fruit for the 5-Elders were not Zoan, but in fact Logia. They are using the “Haki-haki no-mi, Model: Yokai”. The awakened form of a Logia is in-fact a Yokai. Imu might not be all-powerful, but is instead waiting for Blackbeard (who is the reincarnation of some mysterious bad-guy). There’s a story in folk-lore about a rabbit who lives on the moon (the opposite of the sun) and makes Mochi, instead of the elixir of eternal life. The other thing, there’s that catfish yokai which causes earthquakes (I believe it’s meant to be represented by the sand worm). However; Blackbeard’s Yokai form could be the catfish - meaning he never absorbed Whitebeards Earthquake fruit, and has always had that power.

if shanks knew, like the elders. that the fruit has a will of its own, he mightve just let it happen on purpose. cause he knew its gonna pick and choose its candidate. why else would he just carry it around, he mightve just tempted fate so to say. the chest it was in wasnt even locked. that says it all.

Really fun theory, and I like a LOT of it! I just think that Luffy and Shanks' battle will happen in Elbaf, since it's the land of honor, and their battle will be more about that than actual animosity.

I believe that Shanks and BB were fighting over either BBs current devil fruit or a different key item to what they both believe is necessary to finding the one piece. Their meeting was a chance one and it was at that moment they figured out that they were both very dangerous and very clever manipulators. I think alot of people in the comments and possibly even you joyboytheories. Are missing that the conversation they had where shanks cried as a kid was him telling him his illness had progressed so much that the odds of them meeting again were slim to none. This man basically was his father figure as well as his role model. That would be one of the hardest things ever for hom and is aso part of the reocuring theme of family tragedy. Or many never knowing there parents. Essentially he lost his adoptive father. I like your theories and line of thought in general and i like to make many of my own and im sure i take some of it way to far. I like to make funnie ones or what ifs but i think my main theory on most of one pieces characters is pretty sound. Keep up the good work✌️👍
