It's a shame that Josh feels that way. I mean I don't think a single kid that grew up with Drake and Josh saw him as a "fat clown" or anything like that. And it's weird that he sees it like that. Drake was the one with the "eating disorder" in the show. And in spite of being popular, the show portrayed Drake as dumb while Josh was very smart. There was no "humiliation" for either character, it was a back and forth of making fun of both in a comedy show, like it's supposed to be. But anyway, it's clear that he carries a huge scar from whatever insults he endured at the time. He lost weight, but he did for public perception and not because of his own and healthy reasons, and has become a fake and bitter person, just like the people who treated him badly back in the day. It's beyond sad and a reflection of how brutal show business is.

Drake was cool, attractive and good with girls but was also portrayed as selfish, lazy, stupid, and kind of an asshole. Josh was goofy and awkward, uncool and didn’t have much luck with girls, however he was smart, witty, sarcastic, and ended up with an actual girlfriend unlike Drake. I guess being seen as less attractive or less cool really affected Josh. I think he resents his time on drake and josh and resents drake. And everything he does now seems like it’s about public perception and his image. He seems very inauthentic.

After watching Quiet on the Set... It seems to me Drake wanted to stick with Josh because he genuinely enjoyed being around him. It helped him escape the demons he was fighting at the time. Josh meanwhile felt like he was playing second fiddle and would never be able to get ahead and Drake was just using him. In a way he was, but for positive reasons. These two need to fix what happened between them.

Throughout this entire video, you can really see how one sided everything is, even today. The sad look on Drake's face when he says Josh is always busy, but he'll be ready for a reunion whenever. The fact that he had a podcast called "Drake and Janet," completely copying the font and stylization of the original show's logo, even the Josh impersonator at the end of the Latino TV show. It reminds me of the episode of Drake and Josh, "Josh Is Done." Throughout the whole episode you see how Drake takes Josh for granted and is completely irresponsible, and Josh finally has enough. At the end of it all Drake finally admits what all of us I think knew all along: Drake needed Josh more than Josh ever would need Drake. I see what you mean, I also noticed in this video that Drake does have a bit of a "main character" complex or "main character" energy if you will. You see it when he's kind of throwing shade at Josh for being busy in his acting career to do a Drake and Josh reunion. You also can see it when he compares himself to John Lennon from the Beatles. There's a sense of entitlement, almost possessiveness that he has when it comes to Josh, which is why I believe Josh also distanced himself from Drake and why there is a lot of resentment on Josh's end towards Drake. It seems like Drake is too aloof to see the pain that being in a comedic duo with him was like for Josh. Either that or he doesn't care because he's too caught up in his own personal feelings and entitlement about the matter to care. He had an image of how he wanted things to be with Josh, but you can't control someone's life for your own comfort or benefit. I think that was a hard lesson that Drake had to learn.

I've watched several videos regarding the history of Drake and Josh, but I think Drake couldn't move on from D&J BUT also genuinely loved his relationship with Josh. The thing is, Josh felt like he probably lived his whole childhood in Drake's shadow, which is why he downplays his friendship with Drake and whatnot. Both Drake & Josh have... Interesting egos. I feel bad for both of them to be honest, but obviously not everything can be like how it is on screen. It's a shame because their on-screen chemistry was very, very good, even in the random vlogs or videos from way after the show ended. Either way, how Drake ended up is genuinely heartbreaking and gross. So sad for the victims.

I think it's a really interesting dynamic. To me, as someone who never watched the show and is looking at this from an unbiased perspective, it seems to me that Josh is a deeply angry person who was unwilling to confront that anger throughout his early years. This, at least to what I can see, comes from him being typecast as a child actor as the "Fat funny friend" and placed beside Drake who was typecast as "The handsome rebel." In real life, it looks to me that Drake didn't realize how bad the typecasting was, and never understood why Josh hated the show so much. And because he never realized it, Drake pursued a friendship with Josh after the show ended - which acted as a constant reminder of a time in Josh's life that he despised. That being said, Josh's choice to write a reboot script at all seems like a backhanded response to the Fan's constant longing to see the duo get back together. It was like he said, "Okay fine, you want a script, let me write you a script," and then began to bash his former co-star's life and fans from every angle imaginable. The choice to write Mexican stereotypes is incredibly revealing to Josh's character as a person, and while I don't agree with Drake's constant pursuit of Josh, I think Drake was being entirely naive. I think he saw them as friends, while Josh didn't - and Josh's resentment denied him the ability to be gracious enough towards Drake to tell him the truth and have them both move on. I also have to add that Drake's allegations are interesting as well - since he doesn't come across as someone who is violent, just someone who doesn't know where the line is with people.

I never watched the show either and my impression is that Josh, as an adult, was very passive aggressive about his anger towards the show and Drake. Instead of letting Drake know he'd out-grown their friendship, he backhanded Drake with an culturally insensitive script that made fun of Drake in a very mean-spirited way and basically gave a big F-U to all his previous fans. At the same time, Drake is probably one of the most un-self-aware person I've ever seen. I forgot to write down the time stamps but seems like anytime he's interviewed about Josh after the show ended and Josh even had a smidgen of success, Drake looks positively green with envy. It's almost like he's vibing "Well, I was the good looking one. My career should have taken off more than his." But how could he have not known that being the "funny fat kid" would not be something Josh would want to be remembered for, or that the stereotype was hurtful to him? That he wouldn't want to be in Drake's shadow for the rest of his career? That maybe, just maybe, after you hit your twenties you might outgrow the friends you had when you were a teenager?

That must suck, since Josh comes across as very agressive and negative about his past. Which is partially understandable. Typecasting can be hurtful. I don’t blame Josh for not wanting to continue the “comedy duo” act because he didn’t want to play backup to Drake. Calling yourself Dean Martin and your friend Jerry Lewis is saying “I’m the more successful actor and singer and he is my funny man.” The reason Martin & Lewis broke up because Martin didn’t want Lewis having a day in what they did, and went his own way, which hurt Lewis and ended their friendship. What I see here is, a guy who always felt like he was in the shadow of his counter part. I also see another guy who understood, that the relationship he had with his counterpart made him extremely successful. Neither of those guys could let that go. As someone who was, and still am, an extreme fan of drake and josh and will still watch the show well into their 20s I understand the mentality behind both parties. Josh was always the butt-end of the joke, and felt like drake was always taken more seriously as a talent. Drake knows and understands that the chemistry between the 2 brought him great success. Drake is holding onto nostalgia while Josh is fighting to keep the past in the past.

I Don’t think it’s about when he peaked & can’t let it go. I think it’s about the very hard realization that the fond memories & really good times he cherished with someone seemed to not be that important to the other person. This is my take but, I feel like Drake unconsciously decided very early on that that kid was gonna be his best friend for the rest of his life. Growing up together, being each other’s man’s of honor at their future weddings, the godfather’s to their future children, partners along the ride of life & he really cherished the bond they had while Josh, in a very valid way, probably never thought of the friendship to be as meaningful as Drake saw it in his mind. Like, maybe Josh viewed him more as really just a coworker, he had really good chemistry with, someone you come across in your life and were good acquaintances for a couple of years and that’s it. Maybe he had friends he had deeper connections with than the one he had with Drake but maybe to Drake he WAS the friend he had a deeper connection with. Sometimes you feel like you’re on the same page with someone but you’re not & for some people that’s really hard grasp & let go of the fact that the friendship you cherish so much & think is so special, is something that didn’t mean that much to the other person. To him it’s like a 10 year friendship down the drain, it’s understandable he’d be so affected by it.

Josh feels very arrogant. I’m not sure I would say narcissistic, but definitely leaning toward it. Even the way he spoke as a child. Not that it’s entirely his fault. It sounds like he essentially had to grow up early and be his own father since he lived with his single mother. Just the way little Josh describes “perfecting” what other people try or do, sounds so arrogant. Pile that with how he wrote himself to be successful but Drake to be a failure in the “reboot” really shows his colors. That’s not to say Drake was in the right for not respecting Josh’s wishes to be more than a simple sidekick, but Josh clearly has a problem with pride and self-idolization. There’s a healthy level of drive, but the fact that he lacks humbleness in the way he speaks and presents himself, even pursuing the spotlight so much that he has to keep jumping from fad to fad and social media to social media, makes him less than honorable.

Well not really. Drake even said that he would've been okay with playing a failed actor. It's obvious that he was against the reboot because he was in fact a relatively successful musician in Mexico and the script was a total parody of his real life and ridiculing his fan base. It really sounded like Josh was mocking Drake's career. Why else would he want him to play a failed musician and include all of these completely derogatory elements concerning Mexicans and Mexico, when, like Drake said, he could've played a failed actor in NY instead. He would've been a complete idiot if he'd agreed to do it. Edit: Some people in the comments mentioned that Josh might have done that on purpose in order to deter Drake from wanting to do a reboot with him, which I can totally see. It really is unfortunate how everything unfolded between the two. Drake and Josh’s on-screen chemistry was honestly incredible and always fun to watch. It’s pretty clear to see that Drake has a “peaked in high school” vibe to him where he really couldn’t move on from his time on Nickelodeon which led to him eventually depending on Josh and became the root for a lot of his controversies and eventual downfall. I don’t think Josh is innocent either, where in a lot of cases Josh comes off as disingenuous. I genuinely think that Drake wanted to maintain a strong friendship with him after the show ended but I definitely understand why he wants to distance himself from the show due to the trauma he experienced while he was on the show as well as distance himself from Drake later on with all of his issues and drama. It would be nice to see them reconcile but it seems pretty unlikely now. It’s pretty clear that their egos will get in the way of that happening where Drake plays the innocent card and likes to think that it’s still 2006, while Josh will continue to downplay his friendship with Drake and history on Nickelodeon while he proceeds to be on the iCarly reboot which I think is a subliminal diss towards Drake with the D&J reboot falling through. It’s really just frustrating and petty on both ends

Sadly, he was typecasted for so long and it is probably very difficult to break out of that. Josh mentions someone like Zendaya who has been very strategic of what roles she takes, never playing the same type of characters. Her character on Disney also was not a common archetype that is hard to get out of. She was a dancer which is pretty transferable in roles. Someone like JLO was able to break out of the dancer role and get into acting too.

Josh thinks his acting career didn't advance because he was forever known as the fat comic relief, but he quite frankly didn't have the talent to be the leading role, or even main supporting cast in big movies. He gave up too early and just took the social media influencer route that only worked for him because he was known from Drake and Josh, which he ironically hates. Jonah Hill was the Hollywood funny fat guy, but he eventually overcame that and became an oscar winning actor because he worked hard in the industry, and his talent was noticed by prominent actors and directors. Really great video! There's been a lot of manipulation on each side of the argument (Drake's side and Josh's side) trying to turn the narrative in their favor, and I think you did an amazing job at summing it all up, without forgetting any detail. Personally, I don't really believe Josh has resentment toward Drake. I think he really was trying to distance himself from him as fast as possible, following all of the abuse allegations that came up, and exaggerated the whole 'we were never close' thing. By the way I am someone who was sexually assaulted as a child, I’ve been through decades of therapy, and even volunteer with groups for victims of sexual assault. Reason 1: it hurts and insults victims. The idea that because this awful thing happened to you, you will turn around and perpetuate the same type of evil, is insulting and hurtful. It only encourages the idea that there is something “wrong” with victims, and perpetuates the shame they feel. Reason 2: it’s creates a stereotype of what this type of monster looks like, when in reality most SA of children is done by someone trusted in or by the family. For the most part, when the truth comes out people will be shocked, and say they never saw it coming.

As you grow up it becomes your responsibility to get the help you need and go to therapy as soon as you can so that you do not continue the cycle - often feelings like denial about the situation can cause people to continue the cycle. It is very common for child actors to get assaulted by staff. I think the original comment is valid. As a SA victim who has been in therapy for over 10 years, I do not find that comment insulting. I think uncomfortable conversations about the cycle of abuse are important.

But the reality is, a lot of victims can fall into the same cycle when they get older. That's why therapy and getting help is so important, for us to not only see that it wasn't our fault but to also heal from something traumatic and not repeat it on anyone else. Its beneficial taking that route. It's likely that what Drake did was something he learned from someone else. It's a horrifying cycle of abuse and assault. 😞 Ps. This isn't to say Drake didn't do anything wrong. He too became a predator when targeting minors. But it's important to also look into these predators' pasts and see where it came from so we can better understand and help stop this vicious cycle.

@@BengalTiger29 you are partially right some fall in the repeating the cycle catogory which is a thing with all forms of abuse. However some people are born like that. Pedophelia is a mental/sexual disorder where you are attracted to minors. Its why non offending pedos exist they have the disorder and get therapy and dont wish to act upon those feelings. However others with said disorder will act upon it. They have no trauma they are born that way. Its also important to always mention only some victims repeat the cycle and most don't. The stereotype is we all do it which you know is incorrect.

i was obsessed with the show and personally always preferred josh, he was/is super talented, never seen old videos as I was a toddler during the Amanda show but from the start wow he always had the talent. also love your videos!

It was one of my favorites at the time and even just the way the character Drake behaved (especially early on) had no redeeming qualities. Character Drake was one note and, even when he did change, it was more just "oh yeah, I should be a decent human." It's like they gave him a simple character because he couldn't hand any more - not saying that's what happened, it's just how it felt to me. Like we get it, he's self-absorbed and and only cares about seeing hot girls, it was such a worn out trope even back then. Character Josh was both funnier and far more sympathetic; his character arc from oblivious/doormat into a person confidence and refusal to allow certain things, like when he is standing up for him more and holding his boundaries better... That's a real world kind of arc, far deeper of a role. Even with that goofy comedy, he made character Josh real. I dunno, I just think it emphasizes Josh's skill as an actor. I know he was typecast as the "funny fat friend" but in that show, he did have a deeper character behind that than those roles typically have (especially in sitcoms).

I agree, I always liked Josh’s character and didn’t see why girls liked Drake. Drake didn’t have a job and used Josh as a punching bag.
