On the real, speaking from a fan perspective, of course, and from the east. All we knew was what we saw, the parachute pants and the dancing. Unless it was NWA coming through with that gangsta sh*t, we didn't know who Hammer was.... But, we all know now, and rappers back then found out. Like Eric said, we didn't have social media and high-powered, hand-held computers in our pockets where information is readily available at any moment, especially word on the streets. The only people who knew Hammer was gangsta were the West Coast people 💯.

@tobiashillsjr8420 I think he's probably referring to Pop Goes the Weasel, which came out in 91 and was their major mainstream hit and directly dissed MC Hammer which is really what led to the beef. However, they obviously had records out 2 - 3 years earlier. I dunno, I noticed the majority of people don't have good a memory. When I run into people I went to school with and reminisce on stories, half the time they don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. I don't know how someone can go through their lives without remembering half of it and being OK with that. For whatever reason, I remember every single little past detail unless I was extremely drunk. 3rd Bass is really underrated these days and Serch is actually my favorite white rapper ever. I love his solo album.
