Originally, the group was known as The Stetson Brothers, after Stetson hats. There were three MCs, Wise the Human Mix Machine, and Prince Paul. The Stetson Brothers changed its name and style to Stetsasonic the Hip-Hop Band and clinched a deal with Tommy Boy Records when DBC came up with and played the funky bassline for its debut single "If You Can't Say It All Just Say STET", live for Tom Silverman, owner of Tommy Boy Records. After a few months of the single being in regular rotation on radio stations, the group released its first album On Fire (1986).[1] The album received mixed reviews, though the follow-ups, In Full Gear and Blood, Sweat & No Tears were critically acclaimed.

You guys may be surprised to read this but as a kid growing up in a small Georgia town, we loved Stetsasonic! I still remember buying a boom box and the main song I used to blast on it was "On Fire." My brother, our friends, and myself admired NYC hip hop so much that we often wished we lived there back then. Thank you Stetsasonic, and the other artists from the northeast for making our childhoods that much more enjoyable.

I met Stetsasonic back stage at the Def Jam tour in 1988 in Richmond, Va. Very cool brothers, down to earth, especially Daddy-O.

Daddy was always untrustworthy he had a lot knowledge than his group besides Prince Paul who from Strong Island Produce records with the Jungle Brothers , grave diggers and De La Soul, But Daddy-O was never a top teer mc in the Golden era of hip hop like MCs from Strong Island like Rakim, Epmd,Public Enemy, Da La Soul and Biz Markie was dominating the Sound .... no player hating just keeping it real

Scrolled through the comments to see if someone said something similar to what I wanted to say, and you said it. I liked that the group represented BK (I'm BK - born and bred), but I never thought they were as "dope" as any of the other groups or MCs that you mentioned. I still hear folks banging old school joints by Kane, Biz, PE, etc. Nobody still listens to Stet or Daddy-O.

I am very curious about Daddy-O because from my early 90s childhood I remember him being almost a power player in the industry, and then his legacy sort of evaporated. I always wondered what happened there...
