Bro we’re Canadian. When KD was walking off the floor you can clearly see the raptors fans clapping because he was okay to get up. Have you ever watched what people do when someone starts walking off. It’s called respect. Learn some of it.

I don't like how TO fans were framed when that happened. There's a lot of nuance which happened. It was never about cheering an injury. This is a team which was on the cusp of making history, for a city thirsting for any form of success, in a climate where every newscaster and pundit had the Warriors in 6. They weren't cheering the injury - they were cheering that something was going their way. And it's not like Durant's leg was twisted up like a pretzel, even I didn't quite know what had gone down. He didn't look in pain, he just hobbled and sat on the sidelines. But when we knew it was serious, there was no cheering.................

@@ComboBreakerHD exactly. perfectly said.
@thegagz4 жыл бұрын
ComboBreakerHD thank you, well put. Even KD said this when ibaka had him on his show. Context is important here. That playoff run last year was so special for the city, I mean every single minute of the nba finals was like crack to raptors fans lol. It really was mayhem and KD said it was like a college atmosphere. Fans were gonna cheer regardless of what happened. Fans were cheering because it was a clear turnover by KD and it was a fast break the other way, second at least for me, i was cheering simply cause of karma. The warriors have benefited one way or another from injuries to the other team in their championship runs, seeing KD go down and watching the horror on the warriors faces knowing very well they now get a taste of their own medicine is what I was cheering for. It was the realization of everything crumbling for the warriors and culmination of building a super team that no one can compete against plus the weakest move in history by KD joining a 73 win team, to now seeing them falter and having no depth because their management spent all their money on signing stars instead of actually building a team. It was the greatest satisfaction and reason why I don’t give a single fuck when warriors fans scream “asterisk”

I can't make an argument against that. Demar was there from the beginning, and, in my opinion, deserves a ring as much as anyone on the championship team. I got goosebumps re-living that Game 6 in Oakland. Having been a fan from jump, I never thought the Raptors would go on to win it all EVER. I thought we were destined to be the "redheaded step-child" of the NBA forever. It kind of felt like a little brother finally beating his big brother in something. That entire playoff run from a diehard Raps fan perspective was magic, probably never to be repeated again in those same circumstances: Kawhi's unknown status, having the deepest team in the East, PHENOMENAL trade for Marc Gasol, etc. All the pieces had to fall in place for this to happen.
@melian99994 жыл бұрын
This is great work. That Philly build up was awesome, I had goosebumps seriously. There was a few idiots who cheered at KD, everyone was cheering Serge getting a steal in my honest opinion, when everyone realized he was injured it was not cool to cheer. That being said it didn't take away from the quality of this video. Kudos. Do you think they can repeat, i think they will at least make the finals. peace
@ondeckmedia51904 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that! Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it as much as you did. I think they have a real shot to repeat. In the eastern conference, I consider them a favorite. I still can't see the Bucks taking them down in a seven-game series. Obviously things get a little more difficult once they would get to the finals. The Lakers and Clippers (IMO) are top contenders right now to win the title. However, I love the roster Toronto has assembled because of how deep it is top to bottom. They can guard any team in the league, and that is extremely important. Not to mention the unprecedented circumstances for the return of the NBA, I believe, plays to Toronto's advantage. Some teams will not be at full strength and all the games will be played in a neutral location. I think they have as good of a chance as anyone else in the league under the current circumstances. If they do win, you best believe I'll make another video about it! ✊
@BrokeredHeart4 жыл бұрын
You know when you just have a gut feeling, or intuition? The day they announced the trades of Demar Derozan and Jacob Poeltl for Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard, I knew they would finally make it to the NBA Finals. I didn't know if they would win the whole thing, but I knew, then and there, that they could finally top the Eastern Conference for a shot at the title. Raptors fans are used to having higher expectations of their team over those of sports analysts and former players. They've never been a franchise that was deemed as a legitimate contender, as they always crashed out of the playoffs, always at the hands of Lebron James, and that got really frustrating. And people had their doubts about how Kawhi would perform with this new team under less than desirable circumstances, and questions of how "real" his injuries were hanging over his head. So it was a "put up or shut up" year for all parties involved: for players like Kyle Lowry who were written off as a team captain unable to lead his team to victory; for Masai Ujiri who took the risk of breaking up the team chemistry and taking a chance on a player who was deemed a malcontent by one of the most respected front office's in the entire league; and for Kawhi Leonard, who was thought to be using his injuries as an excuse to hold out and negotiate a load-managed max contract when they didn't think it was worth it. This decision could have tarnished the reputation of all players involved, and tainted the Raptors franchise for years as a place where players are sent to watch their careers die. Luckily my gut instinct was on point, and those scenarios never came to pass. Kyle Lowry is a perennial all-star player and phenomenal team leader, Masai is now heralded as the best GM in the game, and Kawhi solidified his status as a superstar in the league. It also elevated the profile of the other Raptors players on the roster, as well as those of the coaching staff as they pulled everyone together for a title run in less than a year. You've got to admire them for their fearlessness, knowing that there was so much riding on their success, and it paid off. The 6ix is now becoming a basketball hub, and the entire country has embraced this team, and are looking forward to the next chapter. Hopefully they can achieve success in the Orlando playoff format and show everyone they are no flash in the pan. It's a daunting situation they'll have to play in, with their health being of paramount importance, but given the pressures they were put under last season, and knowing the character of the guys on their roster and on their staff, I think they'll rise to the challenge.
@ondeckmedia51904 жыл бұрын
I couldn't have said it better myself. The main reason I chose to write and produce this story was for the exact reasons you described. There were so many controversial decisions made by the front office and Masai Ujiri that could have really come back to hurt the team if those exact moves did result in an NBA Championship. At the forefront was Ujiri's decision to send off Demar Derozan in exchange for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Derozan gave everything he possibly could to Toronto, only to be traded away in the offseason before the team won its first NBA championship without him. But that's how the league works -- its a business, and sometimes we see players get the short end of the stick. In the end, no one can fault Ujiri or Toronto's front office for any of the moves because it all led to a championship. At the same time, I would have loved to see Derozan get a ring too because of all he did for the city and organization. Thanks for the very in-depth commentary and opinion on this story. I hope you enjoyed the video! ✊

What made this whole championship win so satisfying was how the entire NBA organization had already counted out the raptors way before the pre-season had even started. We had a questionable Kawhi Leonord on the team who was also counted out by the NBA. At the start of the playoffs raptors were automatically counted out on how they were the team that would choke in round one. And how the bucks would end the raptors run and how the warriors didn't need Kevin Durant to beat the raptors to the warriors lost because they didn't have Kevin Durant. And during all this the icing on the cake was Drake.

Before all these people condemning the Toronto fans for "cheering" at Kevin Durant's injury, should look at a show called America Funniest Home Videos (AFV). Correct me if I'm wrong, don't an audience laugh at other people mishaps/misfortunes whereas people tend to get hurt/injured? I laughed when the injury happened because it was a foolish decision for him to return, people who make foolish decisions are fools at the moment and you are suppose to laugh at fools. And get over yourselves he did not die, he will heal and hopefully learn while continuing being alive. That's what matters the most.
@moizkhan80574 жыл бұрын
I also laughed because of how foolish it was. Just like doing a pole walk and falling on nuts. It's funny because it's stupid. No one laughed at his injury it was definitely laughable because of a poor decision which didnt do jack shit.
@BrokeredHeart4 жыл бұрын
That's not a good defense. But I can see why it happened - Toronto was a pressure cooker that night, waiting with anticipation to close out the series on home court in front of the entire country, and right as they were about to take to the floor, they announced that KD would be returning, the one guy that Raptors fans were least thrilled to see in a blue and gold uniform. So when he started hitting his shots, there was a nervous energy going around the stadium, that if he kept up playing at the elite level he's capable of, they could not only lose the game, but potentially blow the series as well. Who know what could have happened, but it never did. When he ruptured his Achilles, there was a palpable air of relief that KD would no longer threaten to lead the Warriors to another franchise title. Everyone knew what that injury signified - a chance to win their first Championship. So while people were cheering and clapping, it wasn't out of malice toward a player, it was the realization that the largest possible obstacle to their team winning it all had just left the series. Was it classless? Was it rude? Sure. But I doubt that any other fandom would be expected to have reacted differently in the heat of the moment. Imagine if the same injury under the same circumstances had taken place before the 76ers packed arena, or the fans in Milwaukee if the Bucks were in the Raptors' place - it would have been no different. Painting all Raptors fans as some abnormal, hostile entity is placing all other fandoms on a pedestal they don't deserve. The Raps lost that game by a single bucket that night anyway, so karma's a bitch. The Warriors still put up one hell of a fight, and the Raptors came out on top after battling to the finish. Not much more needs to be said.

People always bring up the GS injuries while forgetting the TO injuries. Also that TO was built on depth while GS was top heavy. Health is one of the biggest reasons for a champion to win, grinding through a full season and the playoffs. TO was built to manage it and survive it while GS was exposed for their lack of depth.

I live in Toronto but never really think that the Raptors will win again after Kawhi left...Toronto win the championship bcoz of that guy period!!!...so for the Raptors aiming for another championship ring is a MIRACLE!!!

I heard this but I was not in the arena for the NBA final game 6. So when KD injured and fell down, the cheering was because the fans saw Raptors stole the ball and going towards another basket. Then the cheers later were to encourage KD to get up and hope everything was good for him. Torontonians usually are quite friendly and not really making hates to the opponents. I would rather believe this version. Again, I was not in the game 6, I would not know what really happen there. But you can find some videos explaining that.

I would rather believe this version as well. I didn't mean for it to come across as that black and white. I just remember the narrative on every talk sports show the following morning revolved around whether or not this was the case. Hope you enjoyed the video outside of that one part! Thanks for the comment! 🙏

@@ondeckmedia5190 your video is absolutely great, I enjoyed it all. I understood the cheering KD scene was confused by many people so I am not blaming here. Thanks again for the great video production

@@ondeckmedia5190 I've memories for almost all players that I've listed but it will be too much of typing and by doing a video for even half of the names mentioned that it will be like 4~5 hrs runtime.

27:02 just to be clear its a hockey thing, LITERALLY anytime a player gets up and walks off with an injury the crowd cheers.... like there are tapes of hockey players being stretchered off the ice and the crowd cheers... its a hockey thing.... get over it yo

Totally understand. I just wanted to capture the narrative surrounding the moment after it happened. It seemed like everyone from ESPN to FOX Sports was debating whether or not this was the case. No shade intended by any means. Hope you enjoyed the video otherwise!

People be like no KD or Klay. Firstly, Klay was there for almost the whole series until he was injured in game 6, and no KD was just an excuse, the Warriors won without him before SMH.
