I was not a salesman but worked in an Inbound Call Center where we had to sell Service Solutions to the customer. What I did is found out which service solution would help lower their bill: like the $5 100 text message package. This was back in 2005 to 2007 They always asked if it would help me and they wouldn't buy it unless it did. So I never had to push them.

I'd say another thing that I enjoy while being in sales is the abilities and skills that you acquire to sell anything and everything including your kids on whatever you want them to do.... Or at work. Also the smile and pride you take with you when you go home after a big sale.... Man, it's the best thing ever. And not to forget you get to dress as a million bucks every day... I’ve been in sales 26 years and this is definitely still true til this day however I would give you some advice that I wish someone would of gave me when I was younger. You can’t keep up this forever, going to bed late waking up at 4:30am, on your laptop at home at night working late. You literally have a poor work/life balance I mean if you do the math you’re really putting in 10-14 hour work days. You can keep it up for a while but once you get married and have a family it’s a different ballgame. My advice would be to have fun and do the sales thing for a while but don’t stay in it too long, pivot into a different role in order to keep yourself fresh and avoid the “salesman label”. If you do it for too long it will be difficult to change roles in the later part of your career because you’re just a “salesman”.

Sales professionals who excel in the role often times retire early or transition into more of a managerial/presales/sales support role after working in it for a while. It's a young man's ball game with a lot of upside.

My dad was a salesman, who could sell you a pile of sand, he was that good! He worked hard, 5 children but that also made him a good father! There are disappointments but there are twice as many rewards and at the end of the day, you can go home and know that you did a great job! That is what really matters. I just started in sales(insurance agent) 1 week ago. Working commission only everyday only to make NOTHING is VERY frustrating. On top of that I’m facing eviction soon. But at the same time I love it. The possibility that I just might make a sale that day. The possibility that I will one day be financially stable for not just myself,but for my family keeps me motivated. A part of me wants to quit and get a paid salary job, but I just can’t. I worked for about 9 hours today and made nothing. But I’m not even upset, because every day I learning something new. To learn something new is so so rewarding. Commission only is tough, but seeing my colleagues making a lot of money doing it really motivates me to do and be better, because I know that one day that’ll be me.

Sales is probably one of the most impactful jobs that I've seen. You single-handedly keep a business alive with every deal you close. It's also brutal. You have to keep facing rejection, brush it off, and get back up, all in a marketplace that is evolving at the speed of light. Props to you for texting your girlfriend every day for 1 year. I've made a commitment to improving my communication skills (sales, marketing, negotiation, management, etc) at least for this year, if not for the next few years, because of how important it is to business. How do you stay so persistent through the grind?

I really enjoyed your video. The way you explained everything, and your positive energy and how goal oriented you came off. I was a market representative for 2 weeks but I realized it just wasn't for me. We have to be exactly like the way you described and I just didn't have it in me. I'm more shy, and sensitive to rejection and rude customers and suffer with social anxiety and top it all off I'm pregnant so it made it so much more stressful for me. I realized I couldn't be what the company wanted me to be so I walked away, no hard feelings. My fiance does it and he's great at it! He's a natural. I have been in outside sales for twenty five years (53). I am so burned out with the crm, the increased targets, the commission plan that changes annually. I have made good money mind you doing this. But now that I am in my 50's, I just want a job where I can go to work, interact with people and at 4 pm, I am done. I do not have to worry about work. I have accepted an inside counter sales position with a supply house and love it. I make about $20k less per year, but my finances are in order. And again, when I leave the office, I don't think about work.

Thanks for this man your vids are inspiring and also a motivation for me to get up each morning and work hard.I get up at 3:30 on weekdays to get to the gym(which I also work at) at 4:30,I only live 10 min away but it's nice to get stuff done before heading out the door I go for a 2 mile run and get pre work done before work at 6:30. I'm currently getting ready for BMT air force heading out in november to san antonio lackland.During work I'm usually able to get a good 2-3 miles done of running/walking with clients(physically mentally challenged) and run another 2 after work. These vids are great for reminding me to get work done and always work hard. I know it's not sales but I know many who are not getting ready for bmt and not working hard and are going to have a hard time.Thanks to you I know that,that is not an option. Can't wait for the next video man keep it up! :)

Very accurate portrayal of sales. It's freekin' hard! I find that the hardest part is managing your emotions. When the phone is ringing, I'm in my happy place. When it's not, my inner critic starts chirping at me about how I'm in the wrong career. It's a constant battle! Just showing up at an office and having the boss give you work to do sounds so appealing sometimes. Being in charge of your own success is exciting but also incredibly mentally challenging.

I’ve owned my own business for the past 12 years. It all went down in flames due to a divorce. I’m in debt and am struggling more than I ever have in my life. Owning a successful business for so long, you feel like you’re qualified to do so much, until you keep getting those emails that say “you were not selected for this role”. A few sales positions are what I seem to be qualified for… I’ve accepted some interviews and will be visiting with potential employers this week. I sure hope I can do it like all of you.

Presently started off as a solar energy EPC project sales engineer. What you said is every word true. Hustle hustle hustle. Haven’t been on KZbin in a while but a long time follower and this is my first comment on a video haha. Glad to see you’re enjoying the transition. This video summarized it perfectly. Sales runs the world. There’s a negative stigma to it but everyone sells in some form everyday even if it isn’t their job. I studied accounting in school when I realized a desk job wasn’t for me. Sales has been the best move of my life and everyone told me I was crazy for not going for a comfy base salary at a bank out of school(studied finance and insurance/risk mgmt). Now I control my schedule and what I do. The lows are low but the highs are so high and that’s part of the fun. Seeing the fruits of your labor is amazing. You never know how hard it is til you do it. End rant. Best of luck man!

I am in the sales department but my college degree is in marketing, I've been working for 2 years I've made only millions of sales selling engineering software. For me, sales are all about charisma, magnetism, and persuasion but for me, I've done it the introverted way and lowkey way that is why I survive my last year's goal. this 2nd half I can't keep up with the changes and the deadline, and my boss told me about my performance and that there will be reorganization due to underperformance this 2nd half, the company will lay off an underperforming employee and I am in the candidate. and right now I am making my resignation letter what I realized. not all people like this guy on youtube. I thought sales is in my blood but I am nervous as heck and have social anxiety. I don't have a strong personality like an alpha male vibe.

Travis, I work in sales a representative/ account manager and have been for more then 4 years of a industry I’ve been in for 15 year and I think you nailed it, outsiders see it as we drive around all day drinking office but though that happens is fair from the truth, with working no longer 9 - 5 but you work anytime as required for you work for your customers and not yourself

I work in sales too, and I have to say that I wholly agree with what you have described in your video. Work never stops, even outside of the office and time off with family burns faster than a candle. Yet, I am proud of myself to be doing something that I always was afraid off until I tried it, it proved to me that I had a hidden potential that had to surface. For someone who passes 100 per cent of their time cold-calling and call emailing, I find it exrtemely rewarding when I convince prospect to hear what I have to offer and test out the waters and see how I can help them solve problems. Most rewarding part of the journey, is when a prospect says " You are doing a great job ! let's connect tomorrow"

@@elcapitan6126 First, I would like to apologize for my late response, I rarely have time to check. To answer your questions, kinda outside of the box, if that person feel like they are wanting this, and they are willing for a change, shift in carrier, and they have grounds for it, then yes, I would recomend, it is indeed extremely rewarding, although it is just not for everyone. How to know? one should ask themselves why am I doing this, can I do this? and most importantly, what is my objective behind the shift. If they have got all the answers and they are solid, then go for it !

It changed my mind on sales I'm looking in to getting in to commission and working for myself but, it really made me think if I got out and sale something it would have to be something I would buy personally so I feel more comfortable saling it.
