So some people here seem to think that in order to teach what you’ve learned you need to expand on it. So my elementary school teacher who taught me the alphabet she learned when she was young, was actually supposed to add a few letters of her own onto it then?? You guys are adding your own personal thoughts of what a student should or shouldn’t do. Ultimately a student does whatever the hell they want. The teacher on the other hand, once they have passed on what they learned must accept that the student can do whatever they want to do with that skill. Build on it, or teach it how they learned it. It’s completely up to them and all your moaning about how that’s not fair says volumes about how warped your sense of fair is. Comment by: MattyYoungcloudsArt

Rosie Widdicombe bob ross died from lymphoma. he was a great painter!
Idontknow WhoIam . There was a lot more to it than that . His teacher thought that he was mimicking him too closely . Happy little trees and clouds etc plus a host of other Bob Ross sayings all originally came from his teacher . I suppose his teacher Bill Alexander thought it was one thing for his pupil to copy his paintings so closely but to copy his exact style of teaching and to copy his expressions and sayings , the way he talked even was taking it too far and maybe a bit disrespectful . Then there was the fact that Bob slapped his name all over products that Bill had invented and brought into current use so he could make money out of someone else’s idea . I think that was obviously a cause of friction between them . I love them both however. They were both amazing . It’s a shame that they fell out and didn’t resolve their differences . I’m sure that there was two sides to their particular falling out . They both seemed such genuine and lovely people . Hopefully they have made up now .

Nice job with this video! I worked as an engineer on his show and Bob was everything you could imagine and then some! He was kind, easy to work with, had a blast creating the wacky show openings and was an all around treat to have in our TV station for a week at a time! He was also just a bit ornery...Bob liked jokes and could tell them very well - most often, during lunch! We were so saddened by his death but the crew here knew he was very ill so it wasn't a complete shock. Still, it just tore us all up. Bob would be 75 if he were still with us and what a treat that would be! I hope he can see how incredibly popular he has become wherever he happens to be. Love ya' Bob!

On the day Bob Ross died... a light went out in the world. No one can know another person's heart, yet are we not at least partially defined by our words and actions. In this regard, Ross more than succeeded... by combining artistic instruction with commentary designed to uplift the spirit and make sense of an oftentimes senseless world. In life, the legacy we live IS the legacy we leave. And with his passing, a light went out in the world.

Unfortunately the fact that his family hides how he was outside of the cameras view is extremely suspectfull :/
@metablue44546 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that. And, yes, it's easy (unfortunately natural) to be suspicious. It's part of human nature. Anyway, there is not a person who ever lived who doesn't have a skeleton in their closet... and no one walks on water. Where I was coming from was another place. It has to do with the impact of one human (regardless how imperfect) on another human. For example, about 20 years ago, I watched a televised interview featuring some high-rolling dude in the art world. As with some others, he was essentially critical of the work Ross did, explaining that it was not real painting, or something. But he said something else, which illustrates where I was coming from in my previous post. He said that, for all his shortcomings, Bob Ross, more than any other factor, was responsible for an increase in the number of college students going after art majors. Ross may have been a saint or a sinner (like most of us), yet he also inspired a large number of people to take a chance and explore their own creative potential. And that's the point. And that's one of the reasons why so many people appreciated him. For me, I never picked up a paint brush, yet I appreciated someone willing to defy the status quo (including in the art world) and suggest that anyone, everyone, could embark on a personal journey that could bring a little more creativity and satisfaction into their life. True home-spun wisdom is easy to criticize, but difficult to outpace.

metablue yes i know, and i really admire bob ross dont get me wrong, but saying he was a nice (anything) doesn't break any bones, the fact that they like to hide it completely it's just extremely weird, everybodys a good smt even saying hes a good son or dad, but nothing they refused to say anything at all and thats where it gets awkward, i really really admire him but the fact that hes family doesn't say anything nice about him (they could lie just to satisfy the fans) makes me feel bad, hes such an angel how could someone not be able to say good things about him specially his family, do u get me? Its not that hes a bad person, its that his family denys to say anything at all about him other than what everyone saw him be
@metablue44546 жыл бұрын
It is pretty weird or confusing, etc. I guess it's another occasion where we're observing human nature... which is weird enough. Im 63. When I was in High School we used the term "turn me on" the meaning is the person "introduced me to." In a sentence I could say, "Joe turned me onto Sensimilla." (Sensimillia was the first real 'potent' weed) by the way I dont smoke. If I said a girl "turns me on" it has a different meaning. If I said that in a sentence it would be "Dang, that girl is fine..she really 'turns me on'" Although that does not HAVE to mean sexually. It can mean 'I like her style,' 'I like her attitude,' 'I like her intellectualism' etc. If Paul McCartney says it in a song, it has another meaning. IE; "A Day in the Life" by John Lennon. Arguably the best song off Sgt. Peppers. By the way, Sgt. Peppers is considered the greatest rock album of all time. If that is the case (and it is) then "A day in the LIfe" written by Lennon could be said to be the "greatest rock song of all time." Because it is considered to be the best song of that album. Got it? Although Im fairly sure that title does belong to Led Zeppelin with "Stairway to heaven." Which Im listening to right now :) Ok, now everybody has had their lesson on Urban lingo from the 70's. Think anybody can actually make a point? If Im gonna be f'd with in the comment section (of a Bob Ross video no less?) hahahaha, break out your brains, This stuff bores me, I debate for a hobby. Lol. No offense. OK, thanks. God bless.

Ok, your understanding of ASMR is slightly flawed... Its a very real feeling. I've gotten it since I was a child and assumed all people did, until the mid 2000's, and it has NOTHING to do with anything sexual, and usually anything sexual ruins the "tingly" feeling. Its just a very fuzzy, tingly feeling that moves down your head into your arms and legs when you're relaxed that 3% of people get.
@gerald021216 жыл бұрын
I don't think they meant ASMR was anything sexual, just that the feeling is similar to some feelings experienced by some people during stages of sexual intercourse, and is therefore most often associated with it. Perhaps you don't experience the same response during intercourse, but they're just trying to give the best idea they can to people who don't experience it, as described by the people who do...
@peterjohnjoseph6 жыл бұрын
I can get that. I just think people assume because its often referred to as a "mental orgasm", people assume it has sexual connotations, especially since so many females that make videos pander to thirsty males with cleavage shots and sexual themes. Those videos don't help much with actually triggering ASMR as they do getting men off.. but they make money.. so.. can't blame them. The part of the video that I was referring to as flawed was when he questioned if it was a real feeling. Its something I see a lot, since I have multiple friends who didn't even know ASMR was a feeling some people got, and thought it was just a genre of video.
@nickj126 жыл бұрын
Correct. I don’t get any weird, orgasmic feeling when I get an ASMR tingle. I feel it in my head first, then in my neck, and briefly down the beginning part of my spine. It’s different, and for me, it’s like a more intense shiver. I feel a traditional ASMR sensation, and while I understand the nickname for it is head orgasm, it’s not really an orgasm. It’s not sexual.

Alexander trained Ross, sure but I highly doubt Bill "invented" the "wet on wet technique" when you consider how old the art of painting is in general. The difference is, back then they had no TV's, technology to show it all but most art techniques and methods are actually very old. Also nothing against Bill, I've watched his shows but something about Bob's persona, charisma that's just unparalleled.

+Poison Exactly, people think Bob was bold to milk the "wet on wet" technique but Bill was a bit arrogant as well to claim it was "his invention" lol

I mean.. Shouldn't Bill be proud that his student is imitating his technique and becoming an arguably even better painter than him? Isn't that what a teacher SHOULD want? If you don't want people " copying " your " invention " , then Why are you teaching it?
@MKF306 жыл бұрын
+StopReadingThisUsername Yeah, plus Bob even admitted and gave Bill props in quite a few videos Bob made in JOP so not sure why Bill was so upset. It's not even his technique, i just think he was jelly of Bob's larger success honestly.

Yeah, I really think the only logical explanation would be jealousy. But it still makes absolutely no sense to me, most teachers would be flattered at the fact their students are giving them credit and doing what they've taught them. The whole point of being a teacher is to teach a student to imitate what you're teaching them, especially with art teachers. A teacher should WANT their students to succeed, not blame them for " copying " . By Bill's own logic, I guess this means he's a hypocrite, because obviously someone had to teach him how to paint

Pretty much, you're right. Most teachers would be proud, I think he was just upset that Bob surpassed him in popularity and probably with making money(even though Bob made no profit from the PBS shows) but teaching his classes, selling his paintings etc. Yup. I don't believe anyone taught themselves art these days or in more modern times, past few decades especially of all time considering how old the art is in general in human history. I'm sure someone taught him as well.

That one fucking episode where he briefly described that one school project he had with the chickens will forever remain my favourite because of how much it melted my heart to the point I needed to be sent for surgery
