Fun fact: Tiger sharks evert their stomachs (Literally turning them inside out via their mouth so their stomach is hanging out) when they Vomit, so not only did they have to watch an arm come out of a shark, they watched the Shark vomit up its own stomach, a rat, a bird, and an arm. They thrash around when they did this, which explains the convulsions, and they do this with things their body can't digest (bones, plastic, parasites, and human arms).

Did one of them shove the severed arm with the tattoo into its mouth at some point so that people would think the shark had killed the victim and not investigate further? The only other explanation I could think of is that the victim was alive when encountering the shark and tried the trick of punching the nose or shoving your arm down its throat when it lunges at you, and that caused the shark to pull away and tear off the arm, so maybe that's what they wanted people to assume.

#postmortem marine biologist here. if a shark hacked up a rat and a bird as well as the arm, obviously its digestive tract is messed up by illness (could explain why it seized up and vomited)or some blockage (sharks eat a bunch of trash too, they're scavengers) so it's possible the arm wasn't digested after several days of being inside the shark

Aquarist here, the shark was also stressed most likely by the capture and the new enclosure and the crowds, and fish when stressed often don't digest at all. Since sharks also vomit as a defense mechanism, it's possible that the capture stressed the shark out of digesting the arm and then the crowd triggered its defense mechanism.
