In this video I talk about a set of rules that have been set not by Rockstar games themselves, or Take 2 interactive for that matter, but rather... The Grand Theft Auto Online community!
These unwritten rules have been set by the community to be optionally followed by everyone who desires to be considered an upstanding citizen within the community!

That’s something that I try my best to do as well. Hearing yourself get locked-on can startle you for a moment. That’s why I try to keep them turned off and if I forget and lock-on to somebody, I try to message them “sorry for the lock-on” to try to avoid any conflict.

Here's another one especially if you're new. Do NOT: Pick fights with high level players, close shops, barbers, LSC's or other places high levels are using, and if you want to get their attention, a voice chat or in game text is best. Failing to comprehend that is going to result in you being literally griefed out of the session when you realize how utterly helpless your starter weapons and vehicles are against a rich high leveled player who can kill you in a thousand ways you can't even defend against.

This kind of falls under the no destroying cargo but: if you approach someone running cargo, heist prep equipment, etc. Do not get mad if they kill you. They are defending their cargo regardless if you don’t shoot or not, just an approach can feel threatening in gta online.

Rule #1: If you use a mod menu, do it in a way that noone can even tell you're using one. That means no godmode, no griefing people with mods, if someone kills you don't get mad and send them to cayo ect ect. Think about it like this - you could be the most toxic player in the world griefing non stop with jets and oppressors but abusive modder is about 100x more toxic.

Modders are the biggest losers on earth that can't win any fights on their own. At least when I use my MK2 to grief noobs I still can be killed since I'm only using ingame mechanics. Modders think they are somehow the good guys by just using cheats to kill people over and over again.

No matter how bad you are at PVP, if you're level 40+, and see someone griefing a super low level, you go and attack the griefer. It matters not if you get killed a hundred, or even a thousand times while the low level runs away, as long as you bought them time to run and hide, you did your part. (This is coming from a level 300+ with a 4ish K/D, only gotten from killing griefers and PVP tryhards) And most of all, have fun :)

Same here. I hate when people target low-level players. Sometimes I'm successful, sometimes not. One time, this low-level player was making a delivery. I wasn't far away, I saw this guy going directly towards him, so I got on my MK2, he was shooting at the guy, but luckily I blew him up. I wish I had that video saved, I enjoyed it very much.

A couple of rules I had to adopt are, 1. if you never join my missions, don't ask me to join yours. 2. if you join a team mission, and quit before the game ends, don't send me a friend request. You're a quitter, not a friend.

I'd say chaos is superior when chaos is agreed upon. It can be something as easy as asking "all for chaos?" in the chat before the race begins, and then taking the answer for what it is :). Sometimes I wanna have a good, clean race to test my skills, and sometimes I wanna goof around and be chaotic - depending on racetrack, vehicles, and who I'm with. My general rule when racing with strangers though, is to always assume they would also like a clean race

Rule 2: I follow this rule as well, but with my own twist. I follow what's called "The First Strike Law." Mainly, When I'm roaming in freeroam and someone kills me, I go after them. I do NOT attack someone first, I see who can be a potential Ally and Who isn't going to be one. Edit: After viewing curtain replies from this Comment, I'll answer a few that I've picked. No. 1: "Unless you have a Bounty on your head" From Amirabas Kalamizadeh. Answer: If I have a Bounty on my Player's head, I allow a player to take said Bounty off without going after them. All though this Violates my "First Strike Law." I have a Choice to either attack or not. No. 2: "But if you go after them, isn't it a ultimately a waste of time?" From SarcasticSaber Answer: Yes, it is a waste of time. All though similar to my first answer, I choose to attack. Say a Wannabe Tryhard is attacking everyone including myself. I see what they do and what their style is for their level of skills. Mainly most players will follow a similar pattern, by analyzing their pattern. I can find weakness in said pattern and Exploit it for the upper hand. No. 3: "I spectate the session 1st" From Tone Thomas Answer: It seems you've given some good advice for that. By doing that, you can find weaknesses in a players skill without them realizing it. I find that quite interesting, I will place this to the test when I have the time to go back on Gta Online.

When in the way of something another player wants to use/go into, do not try to kill them. They will either go around or find a new one most times. Such as accidently blocking a LSC door, if they go around you, don't try to kill them. If they try to kill you, go for it.

I have an unwritten rule I follow, well it's actually just more of a precaution, which is; when driving around in a public lobby you should only do so with an armored vehicle that can take multiple missiles.

When you have to shoot with a gun from a car, use the hand first so it will delete the car window without broken glass at the edge, if it's an extreme situation when you don't have time to do this, don't do it but other wise you have to

Another should be unwritten rule but it seems a lot of folk aren't aware: If you see an oppressor making a beeline towards you, get out your vehicle (if it's not protected, of course). Even if someone isn't an actively aggressive player, don't trust that itch when a lock-on appears on screen. We all feel that reflex to fire; it takes a noble person to not fire ... and there aren't many of those on the game, so your risks are high. Most kills I ever see in a lobby come from an oppressor. What do I see when I look on the map? An Oppressor flying away from a reappearing dot on the map. (lmbo;salty) Another related unwritten rule: When you see a player is killed by another player, check your map. You gotta see if that's a serial death, an isolated incident, or a firefight. Another unwritten rule (this is really turning into advice now): If you plan to sell in a public lobby (get that booku bonus cash y'all), observe player activity. Observe how many oppressors are active, and watch to see what they do when near other players. Wait 5 minutes to see if players start killing each other. If i'm selling VULERNABLE cargo (like MC sells usually), sometimes i'd do an "executive search" to see who is itching for some PVP. THE BIGGEST UNWRITTEN RULE: If you approach a player in your car and honk at them. If they start walking away/turning around (any indication of no consent), drive off. Nobody likes desperate (giving rape vibe) energy. All that honking as if it isn't obvious you want someone to get in the car, is crazy. Obvious unwritten rule: Don't show up to/park at LS Customs with weaponized vehicles, especially if players are actively there. Tf you bringing that there for, besides to kill? Ain't no weaponized vehicle that sweet to show off, or you gotta ANNOUNCE YOURSELF. Unwritten Rule (They just keep coming, i'm sorry): If you plan to help somebody with their cargo and you're not in their organization (you're on your friendly neighborhood spider-man sh**), ANNOUNCE YOURSELF. Ain't nobody taking any chances, and if you get killed, don't take it personal, explain why you were there and they will apologize for killing you, maybe even offer you a kill back (pointless these days as K'D is stagnant). Unwritten Rule: C-ROCKSTAR may call it a business battle, but we, the community, see it as "community business supplies, free take". Don't go in their on that rambo sh**. You can get more when you compete less (especially since barely anyone participates in them anymore because of unnecessary conflict). I definitely usually only get in fights with lower-level players who are on extremely high alert (being bullied at low levels) (SPEAKING OF WHICH) Unwritten Rule: Leave the noob alone. I guarantee, if you kill a low-level player, and you KEEP killing them? A bigger bully is going to show face. Unwritten Rule: If you aren't actively on the mic, turn that sh** off. Nobody wants to hear all that background noise. (It's not as bad on ps5 because the sound comes from the controller, but that can still get annoying). Be considerate, you most likely aren't the only one trying to enjoy their tunes. Also, when confronting someone with their annoying mic, cursing them out/yelling at them LOWERS the chances of them even considering how you feel, and will keep going, out of the energy of spite. Unwritten Rule: Don't park in front of LS Customs garage, preventing players from entering. Unwritten Rule: Don't stalk LS Customs, waiting for a player to leave, to kill them. The GOLDEN RULE: Consider "Is this reasonable? Will BOTH parties have fun if I do this?" before committing any actions, because we all want a good experience, even in losing. I know we all want to exercise that demon, but be considerate & responsible. Everyone complains of a toxic community ... Well if everyone is exercising that beast in unhealthy social ways; even if they just have a moment as they don't do this all the time; that's never going to change. "Be the change you wanna see baby"

Another unspoken rule, mostly for the solo player: if you want help, you offer to help first, yeah there are people who take advantage of this, but you meet a load of players and some give guns to those who are struggling. I know because I do this. I give assault rifles I don't use, and heavy machine guns I like but don't use anymore.

I was messing around with some friends and this random got in my mystery inc van so we got him to dress in the Scooby outfit then when we was driving around he just started spraying with his mg out the door, I called the police off so we could complete the assassination and then he just kept doing it so we kicked him out

If someone is on a broomstick, yes, you can kill them without provocation. Don't destroy cargo. Honk at players if you're both driving. Don't kill players right after a mission, especially if they were helping you. Don't steal my car at the beginning of a mission and leave me at the starting point. Don't rap on the mic. Any jet with a cannon is fair game with explosive sniper rounds.
