Make sure you remove any existing CarPlay devices and not have your phone connected to your iDrive's Bluetooth. So far, this iteration has worked way better than the last one on my X3 G01 with iDrive 6.

Turn on Maximize Compatibility on your iPhone. If that doesn’t work get a Y - cable for the device so it’s plugged in to 2 USB ports in your car instead of 1. Your usb port in your car may not be providing enough power or your hotspot. You can do both to

You need to upgrade your idrive istep to version x or y then you can use bimmercode to enable full screen for car play, you can find your current revision under map settings

Yes, because the box has a separate app for taking phone calls from your phone.

Since it's an android unit, will it show Google Maps and Waze direction in the cluster and HUD for iDrive 7+ BMWs? Interested in getting this just for that alone as an iPhone user. Since BMWs don't support wired CarPlay, I can basically power this unit with any power source correct instead of using the USB port in the center? I can technically hardwire it and tuck it out of sight?

I don't think it works that way, it basically turns your iDrive into Android using Wireless CarPlay.

It works with id 8.5 I just got it, and it works. The problem is that there is no x-link app (I wanted to connect my android phone using Android Auto) Was it already there, or did you download it? Because it is not on mine 😔😔
