Charlie, TOTALLY agree that the AB moment at the European Open last year was one of the most electrifying moments of the year last year, brutal as it was. We WANT that "what if", that challenge for the top pros in the world, that thrill and agony late in the round. Riveting, exciting hole. Terrible decision to change it.

@Charlie - Hole 17 at TPC Sawgrass, probably the most famous island hole in all of golf literally has a drop zone. The tee shot is 137yds and if you land in the water you have the option of preceding to the drop zone which measures 83yds. With that said, I also am not in favor of the change to 16 at The Beast. Just pointing out that the assertion that the PGA Tour doesn’t use drop zones on island holes is incorrect.

The polish on Emily's game is there because she's been playing for a long time, which makes you wonder how much more she can improve. I agree though it's a tough call between Emily and Silva. Emily has almost the entire package minus big distance. She's got decent distance. Silva is possibly the best putter in the world and has incredible accuracy but has no forehand at all, and is really really short on distance. Less distance than Ohn by a good stretch. In fact, looking at her footwork on her drives, it looks like she has almost deliberately chosen to not care about distance at all and prioritize accuracy more than basically anyone else on tour. If she could add 35 feet and develop at least a serviceable utility forehand, she could compete season round for top player. Even then she wouldn't throw as far as Emily and Emily is just really solid all around. Tough call. I'm a big Silva fan but I'm not sure I could pick her for future potential unless she addresses the two holes in her game. I don't know.

I think it's that he went over to Europe for the Swedish Open, then flew back for Des Moines and then heading back for Krokhol almost immediately

Given the ability to lay up shorter, I agree this is a really bad change. I'm not in favor of stroke and distance with no option to lay up. The bunker rule is more acceptable with no option to lay up but I still don't love it. In this case there is an option to lay up and it's just distance and not stroke. It was fine. I can see the pdga refusing this sort of thing without knowing the layout but if you send them a graphic and provide the layup option the exemption should be given. We'll see if the PDGA denied the exemption.
