The US 3rd Infantry Division must smash through the dangerous Karbala Gap to reach the outskirts of Baghdad. If the Iraqi Army and Republican Guard can bring their conventional forces and potential chemical weapons to bear during 3ID's dangerous passage through the gap, they will be in for a very tough fight. 75th Ranger Regiment assaults and holds the Haditha Dam.

The tank finally went up when someone got lucky and... I honestly can't remember which, caused a spark, fired a tracer or fired an incendiary round. I don't remember or really didn't know as I was just a spectator and it was more than 25 years ago. Of course in a real battle, there could be all kinds of hot debris and flaming wreckage flying about to ignite the escaping gas. A Mythbusters segment debuked James Bond easily turning a propane tank into a bomb with his 9mm pistol. Just doesn't happen.

Huge props to Sgt Duncan and Major Alfred. absolutely earned those silver stars. Making the decision to save wounded enemy combatants in the middle of a firefight/under fire is absolutely a peak display of humanity. With the world so set on tearing itself apart, it don't seem like such a bad thing to me to wanna put a little bit of it back together. -Desmond T Doss, Medal of Honor recipient. i don't know if he actually said the quote, or if its only from the movie, but it sticks with me when i hear of acts of sheer humanity in the face of war

To think that I joined 3-69 AR after the push....I PCS'ed from Iraq in 2003. Originally I was supposed to be with 3rd ID before the war kicked off only to have a stop movement imposed on all troops that were going to have a change of station. on 16SEP03, I moved to 3rd ID and the very unit that conducted attacks on both the Karbala Gap and Objective peach. the unit I was in was located 1500M from the Iranian border in the town of Mandali and we conducted operations with the PUK. 1-41 FA is also known as "Glory's guns"

Need to take a bridge, best way would be to take both ends at the same time, and they did river crossing with inflatable boats at 13:37? Even doing suppressing fire and with smoke cover? This guy most definitely have watched A Bridge Too Far lol. Or was that kind of operation based on the standard US guideline for taking control of a bridge? Idk.

Fun fact : before congress voted for the deployment of troops and hardware in april the tanks were lining the freeways for transport to their destinations. One was left upside down on cal state hwy 78. The movement was done at night. The next day the festivities were on the news on how the vote had been delivered. ..

In the battle for the bridge I was with C company against the RG division. It was a slaughter. Remember a company of Abram’s is 6 tanks. With 6 tanks Lt Temple annihilated the division. I want to point out. There was not much air support or sterility fire from Americans. Most air support was some Apache sporadically.

Oh Haditha Dam…. I’ve heard some crazy stories about what was being kept under the dam. I, for one, believe them and wouldn’t want to be stationed there for a single minute, much less a protracted deployment. As for rescuing three enemy soldiers whilst under fire in the middle of a firefight…. ummm…. wow.

According to Wikipedia, they rescued those soldiers (they had fallen down a steep hill while under the fire) after the firefight. I was scratching my head and asking myself why would anyone rescue an enemy soldier while risking being hit. I don't trust Wikipedia 100%, but this version makes much more sense to me. Wiki also says that the sniper didn't miss, the bullet went through the enemy soldier and hit the propane tank.
