If the USG tried to gain 51% of Bitcoin mining, then that would be a threat, but if they did, other countries would start mining to prevent that, so the USG would be forced to give up. The USG holding lots of Bitcoin is not a threat. Firstly, the USG is massively in debt, so they would be more likely to sell Bitcoin than buy it just to pay off their debt. Even if the USG had no debt, all they could do to harm Bitcoin is sell it in an uncontrolled fashion, which would drive the Bitcoin price down temporarily, but it would also involve the USG chopping off their own head to spite who exactly? As Bitcoin keeps going up in price relative to the dollar, the dollar is going down in price relative to Bitcoin. Eventually, the USG won't be able to buy much Bitcoin no matter how many USD they print. All of this means that the USG buying Bitcoin with USD that they can print, would be the best thing for the US as a whole. It would also be the best for the world as it would force other countries to do the same. The entire planet would find itself using Bitcoin for international trade, and in many countries, as spending cash. Those countries that kept their own currency (like the US most likely) would be forced to manage their spending or see their currencies devalued relative to Bitcoin. All of this eventually puts every government on a "pay as you go" plan, which makes it really difficult to fund wars of any consequence. All of this is good, but all good comes with bad. Without the ability to print money, it will be difficult to spend our way out of recessions. For countries that lack the discipline to save Bitcoin for a rainy day, their recessions may drag on for a very long time. This opens the door to the destruction of political systems that might otherwise have served as a way for the people to throw out the bastards that got them into this mess. Then the revolutions get literally bloody.

It will be promised all throughout the bull market, and it will likely never happen. People will expect it to happen all the way into 2026 when the bear market takes over. By the time end of 2026 rolls around no one will want it anymore. Another scenario, they actually do enact the reserve, right at the peak of the bull market, and lose a whole bunch of money. People will buy at the peak too, following suit, but it's only a temporary pump and the cycle takes over soon after as expected. Remember, Trump is not actually smart with his money. He bankrupted 3 casinos and his other businesses are not very profitable. When he inherited $440 million from his father he could have invested it in the S&P only, and he would have $9 billion today -- without starting a single company or leasing his name to anyone. So if anybody can do this, and do all of it wrong, leave it to Trump.

This HODL-ing forever has been noted by Sailor, Finkster, Sovereign nations stacking, and all the ETF’s, not to mention other whales and other nations when Game Theory kicks in. There’ll surely come a point where all 15 million free-to-roam BTC are frozen in said-wallets, meaning no supply, leading to diminishing demand as people seek value elsewhere. Could be wrong, but I’m not as headless chicken as some people who see all this stacking as mega bullish and BTC going to tens of millions.

BTC is never going to be used as money without other layers. Governments accumulating it as a reserve is a good thing, as it helps adoption and the general public would start to see it as a valid store of value. With enough liquidity, BTC will never be as volatile again and it could be the perfect store of value. At least we would be free again to accumulate and save without the governments constantly devaluating the results of our frugality. The main problem would be taxes on capital gains.

All I want to know is - should I buy now?!!! I've only made serious money from BTC when I bought in a period of maximum fear (ie, when it was like $16k in late 2022) and just held until now. We are now in an opposite scenario and I just can't unsee those peaks in 2021 where if you bought then, you bombed hard for like 2 or 3 years - the peak we're at now looks eerily similar to those peaks in 2021.

Well if you look at the market cycles of Bitcoin and the economy in general since covid, we're actually at the bottom of a cycle. That's why everyone is bullish on the performance over the next year. Plus, ultimately it's about buying as much Bitcoin as you can when you can and keeping it. When the market dips it's an opportunity to buy more for less.

Buy now and don't look at it again for 5 years. You'll be happy.

It means a monopolized bitcoin. How the market reacts would be interesting to see. Maybe we’ll shift our attention towards a cryptocurrency that has all the qualities we love about bitcoin especially that it is decentralized. Bitcoin prce might go down because demand will shift to a counterpart asset…

The way to make the Bitcoin Strategic Reserve permanent is to require a super majority (7/8ths) of the House and Senate to approve any sale of the Bitcoin Strategic Reserve. It's a simple thing, easy to understand, all that is required is the will to do it.

But for transactions it’s too volatile and gold has doubled in price since 2010 😮

In the past, the Fed issues money, other nations save the Fed's money, and only a selected few non-US individuals can save any amount of the Fed's money Now, the people issue money, nation states save the people's money Isn't that interesting?

Like an actual reserve and actual Bitcoin as opposed to the so-called reserve we have now. Brilliant! Abundance for all!

What's the bets the legislation is modified on the Bitcoin derivatives market. The bigs will get the actual Bitcoin and the plebs will get the derivative product.

I think fair value for the btc network will end up being close to 80 trillion, give or take 10 trillion either way. So long way up to go!
@sheshotjfk8375Күн бұрын
There is only about 100 trillion in the world. So you are saying that the bitcoin network will handle pretty much all the financial transactions on the entire planet? You are aware that it only has a TPS of 5, right? The SWIFT system itself does like 500 TPS. And that system was built in like the 70's. So you think a payment system 100 times slower than the SWIFT system will handle the entire worlds economy when the SWIFT system couldn't even possibly come close to doing that?
