Here’s the thing: if it doesn’t get sold to an American company, tiktok will be banned. HOWEVER the bill would also allow them to ban any social media platform that they find to be “collecting sensitive data”. All social media collects data, and if they decide they dislike any social media, it can and will get the ban hammer.

Please do your own research. If China attempts to annex Taiwan. TikTok, manipulate the algorithm. So it doesn't show any video supporting Taiwan and only shows videos supporting China. So they can use that to attempt to get people to protest America supporting Taiwan

The data collected and used must be on their terms, no one else's. That's what they want. Facebook was fine as it is an American company and the government could work with those in charge to get the data they want and push any agendas they want.

that’s true, however i feel like even if i got tiktok on my phone whilst i wasn’t supposed to have it i couldn’t then post any videos with my face on it (to not get caught), so all the videos on there would start to suck cus no one would show their faces

As someone who will be gaining voting power in the US very soon I am very thankful you brought this bill to the attention of your viewers and broke it down to terms that people, like me, with little previous knowledge of legal terms understand. I understand it is important to do our own research in this topic as well as all others, especially in relation to law, but I wanted to express my appreciation first and foremost.

But seriously, we do have a data security issue, the fact we carry devices in our pocket that is used to track our persons, track our content, our spending, can be used for social experiments and propaganda... Is a very concerning data safety issue

Interestingly, we all recognise that all politicians are corrupt and evil but our solution is still voting? Then a new group of oligarchs, crooks, and fascists come in, take away more rights, ruin our countries even more, and the solution a few years later is “vote again”? But that just repeats the cycle. Think about it, if voting actually had any power, it wouldn’t allowed, would it? John Adams was open about this when founding the USA. He recognised that a true democracy would lead to socialism like that 🫰because the masses would expropriate the wealth from the wealthy so the system was set up to be inherently anti-democratic and set up to defend capitalists. All states are. In a society where people are equal, you don’t need states; states are there to enforce inequality and are our enemy no matter where they pop up.

I feel like the most ridiculous part of all of this is that our government could be working to actually help our country and pass bills that actually benefit the people or put a stop to all the problems we as a country are facing. But they are SERIOUSLY just making a huge deal about tick tock instead, and any social media in general just for a selfish agenda which just goes to show the state of our country right now.

We have inflation, high taxation, rising cost of living. If all three of those things were significantly reduced, wage increases would not be an issue, and companies wouldn't have a ready-made excuse for price gouging the public. But we also have a border problem, crime problems, data security problems, education system problems, healthcare system problems, political problems aplenty thanks to the politicians themselves, infrastructure problems, yet somehow tackling a tiktok ban and having another shutdown scare to fund more useless crap like war was more important. The entire federal government gets a vote of NO CONFIDENCE from me.

@@P1nheadlarry. they are not banning bad algorithms. i agree their algorithms aren’t great but the same can easily be said about any other social media app. it’s purely because they are hosted by a “foreign adversary” aka just for being chinese. if this was a bad algorithm ban that effected all social media i would absolutely support it, but it is clearly politically motivated in a racist way that will end up helping no one.

Net neutrality is so important. I remember people fighting for it when I was little, even before tiktok. I'm incredibly angry and continually disappointed in our government formed to protect and serve our people, consistently screwing those same people over to put a few extra bucks in their pockets. I personally, want to seriously dock their pay and put that money towards the national debt or something. Invest it back into the country. Politics was originally a SERVICE to your country, not a career to get rich off of. A livable wage is reasonable but what they make is actually ridiculous compared to what they expect the average american to live on. And they still want more, greedy bastards. Disclaimer because I really don't want to start fights rn: I don't know much about politics, I have no idea if that would work in practice but it sure sounds nice on paper. We pay their salary after all. Although it could encourage them to be even more corrupt to make that money back and could be counterintuitive. But the point still stands that attitude around politicians and politics in general needs a complete change

The main reason it might be getting banned. He didn't say anything about. And it's already been proven that TikTok can weaponize It's viewers against any topic just by manipulating the algorithm. Say China tries to annex Taiwan. TikTok and make it so any video supporting Taiwan don't get shown. In video supporting China get supported in the algorithm.

First, politics in general are some bullshit and even Washington was against a two party system. Shame on these money grubbing works. I'm on the fence on this hand. (Idk if that's the right wording but in other words, I'm in the middle ground on this) On one hand, I can't do anything against China if they want to use my data against me (especially if a conflict of some sort breaks out). On the other hand, I don't like US companies stealing my data as well. However, it should be noted that you can hold companies accountable while you really can't do anything against China, and if China can block out most of Western social media, websites, etc, why can't the US do the same? Now hear me out, what I'm trying to say at the end of the day is that no company East or West should steal your data. They need permission or other forms to gain access to your data without restricting access to the product itself. I.e, you don't agree to the terms, you can't use it, which defeats the whole purpose of using that product (many companies do this) and basically strong-arms you into agreeing with it. If they continue to violate the law, they should be fined under the law, and the wealth they gain from that shared data. Not only that, but that wealth gained from sharing that person’s data, should be entitled to some of the money. If you're going to such lengths to secure our data from China, why can't you do the same at home? Sure, you can hold companies liable but with the amount of wealth and lawyers they have, it would essentially be an uphill battle, waged by either a community or a high-wealth individual willing to go against that company. In some cases, an ordinary individual can win such a large battle. (It has worked before, people have done it, so don't say it's completely useless ☠). I would give my support for this bill if they included all companies alike. They have the right idea, but needs to be executed properly. Whats your opinion Danny, and other random online people.
