I’m french and Vieira is not ready. He had multiple failed stints with young teams (Nice, Crystal Palace, Strasbourgh).

He actually did a good job at Nice, qualifying them for European competition. Not enough to warrant his hiring as USMNT coach, but just saying he did good with Nice.

Can't say he did a good job at Nice either. He had a 38% win percentage, -9 goal differential, and an abysmal 1.1 average goals per game. All of that improved after he left.

A coach is important, but we need a deaper player pool. I think Viera is a reasonable hire.

I would argue that with such a short window until the next WC, the coach is very important especially someone who understands the importance of being able to maximize the player skills and talents (Renard, et all), and not a coach like Berhalter who thinks its time to teach the players as if this is a club team. IMO

Which is why the media and pundits shouldn't talk about these guys as if they are an elite team or program. Just average. A new manager should hopefully get a look at other players out there and not play favorites.

How many great player in any sport became a great coach? There are a few, but it's not very common. Why? Because the traits that make a great player are not necessarily the traits that make a great coach. Vieira was obviously a great player. But he's proven that he's not a great manager. I don't think he's the right choice. I'd prefer someone like Herve Renard. I don't know if he'd be interested though...

Managerial style, source, Wikipedia: "Vieira has been known for implementing a methodical, possession-based football in all his teams. He has shown a tendency to become more defensive when his side are in a tight spot." This is not the man we need. Boo to this f***in' guy.

That will be stupid. This is no rocket science. You know what you need and you know what you do not need. You need a seasoned coach with national teams, and success in a WC, Copa America or UEFA. That is why you do not need a coach from the MLS or that only managed clubs. The US soccer federation should at least know the minimum requirements for the job!!!!

This was the biggest name we could get for the money we were willing to pay. This is probably Viera's last chance to put his managerial skills on display on the biggest stage. If he does well, he will get a chance at another big club. If not, he will be coaching relegation teams in France if he is lucky.

Berhalter salary was more than Luis Enrique of Spain. Roberto Martinez. or Herve Renard of Saudi Arabia, according to FIFA salary lists 2022. I don't think money is a problem to hire a good coach.

Jesse Marsch's winning percentage in the premier league is 29 percent, so based on what you're saying then he wouldn't be a viable candidate either. Wagner's win percentage in the premier league was 23 percent. Herve renard's record is poor. Mattarazo's record isn't much better. There aren't any foreign coaches that have won things and have a great win record, that are interested in the us job. Getting Klopp or Ancelotti or even pochettino is above our level. Veira going and trying and failing in Europe puts him ahead of the coaches that don't even have that experience. Winning in mls means only so much, a coach failing at the top level is greater than what cherundolo and Nancy have done, just having success in mls and never even trying to make it at a tougher level. Viera at minimum will command respect from the team and I think we need to move away from coaches that are tethered to us soccer and mls

@@MLSMoves marsch poor in Montreal, good with rbny, ok at Salzburg where they’re far and away the best team, poor at Leipzig and poor at Leeds… his record isn’t any better than pv. I really don’t take much into their head to head record in mls 10 years ago

someone please help me understand something about soccer...does the US team practice together for a couple of months or weeks each season, then go back to their professional contracted teams for the rest of the year?... how much time does this team get in order to build a positive rapport in order formulate a winning team?... how much time does the manager get to actually coach the team?...2 months out of the year?...is this a part time job?...soccer scheduling is confusing...can the players opt out of playing for the national team?...just trying to understand...no sport is like this?...

Don't know the specifics as far as time, but international managers gets far far less time than club coaches with club teams. Club coaches spend day in and day out with their squads, whereas international managers see their squads during brief camps. This is why complicated club tactics don't often pan out with international teams. The U.S. team usually get together for a brief time for a friendly, a qualifying match, or a tournament, then it's back to their clubs again.

Normally, the National team manager will have a couple days of training before his matches during international windows. For international tournaments, coaches have about a month with the team before the tourney kicks off. But yea very very limited time compared to club coaches

7:40 because Wilfried Nancy has zero managerial experience out of mls and commands nowhere near the level of respect as vieira does. Vieira’s pedigree as a player and personality absolutely are key factors to consider here. He wouldn’t be one of my top choices for the usmnt but I think he would be a good hire

@@ktm4042 which dressing rooms though? Montreal and Columbus? Nancy is super unconvincing. I actually have similar feelings about both Henry and Nancy. Henry is the bigger name with likely better man management that could translate to the international level while Nancy is the better tactician

He had 1-0 loses to city, Liverpool, spurs and so on. Remember he wanted certain players to upgrade spots and palace never pulled the trigger. Smh what are we doing. Nancy's squad at Montreal was way worse and he still had a better winning percentage than Vieira at NYC.. Montreal were horrible before and after Nancy what he did there was incredible.
