My Grande 2006 has done over 420000 KLM never removed sump always used full synthetic...driven hard pulling off-road van and race car when required used a lot off road...only replaced the air bags, alternator and starter solenoid...the later due to lot of river crossings. I would have replaced it by now...but unable to.buy a petrol...remember "D" stands for dear.

needs a good looking over and some preventative maintenance. starting with the oil pick-up inspection. 5000km oil changes on the v6.

For v6 you need to undo the oil pan - doesn’t take that long - very difficult to inspect though though the hole alone😊

Hi Antony nice to see a petrol in. Yes easy enough to drop off sump inspect reseal. Be good to get all gunge out as well. You mentioned about the lower control arms. Why they put taper down not up. As you have to remove half shaft. Old saying don't disturb what's ok. It's just my though on this. Sure designer's just design don't have to carry out services or maintenence. Same with headlights try changing a bulb with headlights in place.

Why not use an inspection camera to see oil pickup?

the round section of the sump is where the oil pick-up screen is, it sits very low and i don't think that a camera will do any good because of the angles needed to see up at the screen. it's a easy job to remove the small sump , it's like 13 bolts. then you have two bolts to remove the pick-up if needed. if it's clear then you have peace of mind and just keep doing 5000k oil changes. once you've checked it if you add it to your maintenance schedule at 40000k or 2 years just just to make sure that it's staying clear.

I wish they'd positioned the Hilux 1GR sump like that, instead of over the crossmember.

What sort of oil should I use in my 150 V6? Full synthetic? Mineral? If I use a high quality full synthetic do I still need to change it every 5000km? Currently using Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 and changing every 10000km. Cars done 210000km

Any brand synthetic 5 or 10 to 40/50 W change between 5000 to 10000 k's, closer to 5000 is better, check the oil pickup by taking off the drain pan, takes 30 minutes max. Change the transmission and diff oils every 50,000

check out the pickup and it's recommended by Toyota that the v6 get 5000k oil changes. if it's clear and the screens not glazed you at least know that after looking at it. that oil is fine. keep using it if you're happy with it.

I have always used Mobil 1 0W-40.
