We all know the story of how the big three got their sports watches, don’t we? All designed by the same guy, Gérald Genta, in the 1970s? I had a similarly positive experience at the Panerai boutique in Florence. I was CLEARLY not in the proper tax bracket to be a serious buyer but was welcomed and treated as if I were looking for a tourbillon! When I can afford a Panerai new, I will make the trip back to Florence just for that treat.

Every watch boutique has had somebody saunter in wearing a hoodie, jeans & trainers and then part with some serious (buy a car) coin on a luxury watch. Patek is possibly a bit stuffy about it but VC and AL&S know they have a following among tech nerds. JLC too.

Same with IWC and Vacheron for me, they took out a 100K plus minute repeater just so I could hear the chime. But I will never buy a breitling, they treated me horribly, acted as if I was a thief. Asked what my budget was and I said was I was just looking, then proceeded to quietly call security.

My uncle had a 222, however I was too young to know what it was and he kept it in pristine condition - after his passing, his son sold the watch. I would've happily bought it from them, but they had no idea that I would even be interested. Lesson: Always keep an eye on your family's wrists.

I recently inherited some pocket watches form my grandfather, and a couple are early VCs (though they're from before when it was just called Vacheron Constantin, one is marked "Vacheron & Constantin" along with "Charles Vacheron" and the other is "Abraham Vacheron Girod")

IWC are weird, I don’t know why they did that. The Ingenieur Jumbo is a magnificent watch, if theyd continued making that one variant at least the ‘holy trinity’ of Audemars, Patek and Vacheron would probably expand to include IWC and be the ‘holy quartet’

3:10 how did that scratched Maltese cross on the dial pass inspection? That would drive me nuts. Plus it looks like it was stamped out without finishing. Several other little flaws on the dial too. It’s a killer watch regardless.

This loan watch is a preproduction model so it’s not quite up to the usual Vacheron Constantin standards-if only mildly! Watches are ordinarily seen warts and all.

considering the whole package, history, finishing, technics and artistic design and of course character, no other brand can compete the humble VC. making comparison of VC with other watches, of course with utmost respect to all of them, is comparing old money and new money. just take a close look to all timepieces VC is creating and compare with other top brands, you can see its miles away in quality, just i can feel some masters have put their hearts in their job to finish it like that, specially Les Cabinotiers that are non comparable with any other watch on the earth. other top brands are using marketing technics and ....., but forget marketing and price there is no rival for VC over all and considering total timepeices. i just wish this brand was kept in family.

The Vacheron Constantin Oversees is the most beautiful sport watch in the world. It is more beautiful than the Rolex Submariner, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and the Patek Philippe Nautilus. I like the VC Matese cross-case, Maltese cross bracelet, and the transparent case back with the sta rotor.

Great content! I’d love to see something on the history of the Omega constellation line. It’s not as appreciated as the speed masters and sea masters but it carries great heritage for the brand and the latest collection with ceramic bezels are a real jump forward in terms of design for the collection

I thought that "London Academy of Arts" sounded wrong - there's no such institution, and I've never heard of such. Another source says he studied at The Royal Academy, which could be possible, but not for two years, and so I looked around and there's an interview in which he's quoted directly as saying that he studied sculpture at the Central School of Art (later conglomerated with St Martins).

I agree the RO is very masculine and industrial and the Nautilus more feminine and softer . The reason why i like the Overseas the best (personally) among the 3 is its well balanced and comes with 2 extra straps to boot and covers all the bases.

Intruigingly, the buler astromaster (a cheap but swiss made watch) was released in 1970 and had a very similar appearance to the royal oak which arrived 2 years later.....

No direct design connection between the 222 and any OS...Two different integrated bracelet watch designs by two different designers but both trying to follow the Genta path of designing high horology steel sport watches with integrated bracelets... Nevertheless the new OS gen 3 is a very sophisticated and gorgeous timepiece.

I own a third generation of the steel Overseas with the blue dial. Reasons for choosing were exactly these: beauty, design, tradition, and unparalleled finishing. I also refuse to go with flow and chose what I like or want based on what others think. I like exclusivity, personality. The obvious choices, as you know, are Patek and OP. Basically, if you’re in the market for a steel sports watch that represents that historical 70’s period, there’s no better choice. Patek Philippe and OP are excellent watches, but what drives their prices up is basically hype, people that care more of what others think of their watch, status, or people that want to profit from it, buying just to flip immediately. This is simply sad in my opinion. The pleasure of owning and wearing an Overseas is being able to admire the best of watchmaking and forget about the reasons most people buy (or desire) a Nautilus or a RoyalOak.

The problem about this video and many others alike, is that Watchfinder is owned by the same capital group that owns Vacheron Constanstin and other brands. The videos are insightful, I enjoy them dearly, but you can't help but think that this connection affects the presentation and words being spoken.
