It doesn’t ruin everything, companies aren’t a charity. Companies value the influx of cash they get from more investors, this allows for quicker expansion which they may not have had without that extra influx of cash. It’s a give and take, it’s a risk taking and that’s what companies do they take risks. Companies are meant to grow and make money, most companies that are funded with private equity do well, the vast majority don’t miserably fail. Yes some of them burn, some of them succeed which is what happens in business some succeed and some fail, but having an influx of cash is only bad when leadership is bad, if leadership is bad well then it’ll fail ok so be it. Congratulations to the Vallejo staff for standing up for themselves and knowing their worth! :-) One of the nice things about having so many paint options these days is the amount of leverage our community has if a hobby company isn't doing right by their employees. I want folks to know that us KZbinrs were monitoring the situation closely, and watching to see how the new owners of Acrylicos Vallejo would react. EVERY content creator who I spoke with in private conversations was pro-worker. As the strike escalated, the KZbinr community was prepared to escalate our coverage of the situation and the calls to boycott. Luckily, the strike was successful in less than a month. Speaking for myself, I had plans to get a LOT louder once the timer ran out on the "polite letter" phase. ;-) I've been a Vallejo customer since ~2003, and I hope they prove worthy of a portion of our hobby bucks for years to come... We'll be watching...
@steventatlock544327 күн бұрын
Well, considering a sizeable portion of those hobby bucks are now earmarked for a shareholder's yacht instead of anything to do with the hobby space, I won't be holding my breath. On the other hand, there's this paint company that is entirely employee owned called Golden that just so happens to make artist grade, single pigment paints for less money per ml than the Vallejo stuff, and they don't require substantial outside pressure to treat the people who make the paint like human beings. A lot of people's retirement funds are in these companies and for good reason, they make profit and secure the pensions. I'm not saying the employees should be treated poorly or that penny pinching isn't a reality, however do not be naive about the need for equity firms as I am more than willing to bet you know several people that rely on them.
@pdxholmes27 күн бұрын
@@dale3869 You sound like the naive one. You think most PE firms exist to "secure peoples pensions"? First off, you don't need PE to do that. Most PE firms you can't even directly buy in to unless you have hundreds of millions to spend. Most people are much better off putting their retirement funds in an IRA and buying mutual funds. Second most PE firms these days exist specifically to buy up and suck cash out of companies, to then reinvest that money in to other areas. They are the capital vampires of modern capitalism. Take a moderately successful company, lower it's costs to barely enough to operate, run said reputation in to the ground while extracting as much cash as possible. If you somehow thought "equity firms", e.g. asset management firms, or brokerages, were the same as private equity, maybe do some research before commenting.
@Ragnarra27 күн бұрын
Its just loan sharking under another name they shouldn't be involved in buying out companies and should answer to someone particularly keeping them under a microscope. There is a difference between being a good business man/woman and being a sociopath that will do *anything* for profit. To the point of callousness which is what has been shown. They shouldn't be allowed to purchase companies then shoulder the debt on the company they bought with the loan they bought so they can resell it after they tore through the company like a rampaging bull moose. Its a level of cutthroat ruthlessness that has no business in such paint fabrication or similar I never agreed with quotas meant to make someone fail either that sort of vileness is worse. Its like being paid like a waitress in US you survive on tips, or a hairdresser or even some mechanics shops which are paid by commission.

Thanks for covering this topic, it's good that you show the struggle of the working class vs capital and that our hobby is not exempt from this struggle either. Class struggle is not some nebulous thing for steel mill workers in the rust belt, it's all around us.

Thank you so much for talking about this issues. We need creators taking on the social aspects of our creative lives. These patterns of exploitations are so present in every part of our lives that it feels good to see creators fighting instead of just rolling with it.

Golden is 100% employee owned. Their SoFlat line is cheaper by the mL and is of higher quality. You have the choice to give your money to the people who make your paint, or to the people _terrorizing_ the people who make your paint.

@steventatlock544327 күн бұрын
@@criticalcommenter Yeah, I don't support companies that have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, through the public square just to get them to treat their employees like human beings. The Vallejo you knew is gone, it's now owned by a financial institution that doesn't know a thing about paint. I'll stick with the higher quality, employee owned company, thank you very much. A massively profitable corporation *FINALLY* supporting the people who make the product isn't a positive for me, that's not a win. Your comment has "I stopped hitting your mom and you guys are still moving out?!" vibes. Vallejo doesn't get credit for finally being pressured into doing the right thing. They had no interest in their employees welfare until it was going to affect their bottom line.

I found a shop that sells hobby stuff today. And bought 3 vallejo paints. Not been painting long but even i noticed the bottles are thinner than the last ones I got a few months ago. And one of the lids snapped when I was opening it which I've not had before but not got loads of it may be very common wait not to me. I like the paint. Glad the staff are getting better treatment Thanks to bring this to my attention Very well done

Thanks for the info, while Vallejo has been my go to for years (as mentioned they have great metallics especially the solvent ones), one issue IMO has always been the confusion with too many lines of paint. At this point I’ve moved on to MH; small company, easy to contact, I know who I’m buying from, everything Vallejo seemingly used to be.
