Another pleasant Sunday afternoon with the 1880 Drifters even with a Htx of 104°F here. That old ranch horse is a kid's dream, even this 74yo kid.🙂 You might put a reserve on Crow or have somebody bid in with your money. You'd be making a contribution and riding your horse next week. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👏👏🇺🇲🇺🇲

@shawnjack80925 ай бұрын
Hi, No we did not buy him, Wayne won't sell him!!! ha ha But he gets to retire at our place and our kids get to learn from him. We are super happy Wayne let him come and stay.
@deanaltman68415 ай бұрын
When you have a horse that has had an adult on it it’s whole life so is used to getting inputs/commands down low on its belly from an adults legs and feet, do you have to re-train the horse to accept commands high up on their sides from a little kids legs? Seems like the horse would be confused about that. Another great video btw.
@shawnjack80925 ай бұрын
Hi Deana, this is my personal opinion, so it may not be worth much, but I honestly believe that these horses know who is on their back and they respond accordingly. For example, the day before Levi rode this horse, an adult was on him working hard and doing ranch work at full speed. When Levi got on him, he completely geared down and became very responsive and quiet. He responded to every command Levi gave him. These little kids do not have the maturity, skill, or ability to understand all of the complexities of good horsemanship. They learn as they gain experience and grow, so we try to keep it as simple as we can and focus on just having fun. I have never had to retain one of these old ranch horses to respond to getting pressure from a different or higher spot then they are use to. They just seem to figure out what the kids are trying to get them to do and they do it. I guess what I am trying to say, is we don't worry about it and the horse just seems to adjust. Thanks for your question and thank you for watching.

How "old" is a Old retired ranch horse and are they suitable for older folks like say around 65 yrs old on the heavier side or are they past that time in their life? By the way I love your channel!
@shawnjack80925 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for the question. Most ranches retire horses out at 17 or 18 years old. Hooray is 18, he has lots of miles and life left in him. They make perfect horses for anyone. When a ranch retires out a horse, a lot of times it is because they appreciate that horse and want to give him a good life. It does not mean that they are wore out or broke down. We have one that is 23, he can still do a full days work. Personally, I love these types of horses because they are usually honest, solid, and trust worthy. Ranches don't keep horses for 17 or 18 years if they are not really good. So yes, they make great horses for kids, beginners, or even old people like me. Honestly if you can sit in the middle, it does not matter your size they can take care of you. A good one is worth it's weight in Gold.

if someone were to win the bidding on your horse would you keep him working for a bit until transport could be arranged, and/or do you know anybody available to haul to southeast AZ?

Hi, we would be happy to keep him and to keep riding him. He is one of our favorite horses to ride. We would also be happy to help make transport arrangements. We are not far from South East AZ.
