Probably my favorite vr moment of all time was when on pavlov, on Hageru, I was hiding inside a house with my group mates, sniping germans, physically wracking the bolt back, yelling at my teammates telling them where the enemies were, watching my comrades get slowly murdered all around me. There were tears, there were laughs, and there were dead headsets. And like you said, when I think about this, I dont think "I saw everyone around me die and then shot everyone" I think "I physically dodges bullets, hid behind bullets, made connections with people, and pulled back bolts."

I love your point about how memories in VR feel like you’re actually there. I think when you’re playing VR, obviously you’re always somewhat aware that you’re in VR. You can feel the headset on your head, your field of view is lower, you can feel controllers in your hands, etc. But when you revisit the memory, your mind kinda filters out the minute senses and focuses on the more straightforward things: sight and sound. So when you look back, it really just feels like you actually experienced it

I love VR. It’s just a beyond amazing experience and just feels more in depth than 2D can ever do. I really hope it takes off and we get more impressive games, like a survival game and a stealth game similar to splinter cell and metal gear solid. I’d kill for that man

Luck you. Bought mine used from a friend and after about 50 hours of use, the left controller is dead and the tether cable is degrading, so sparkly pixels and popping audio. I can play high-intensity games like Lightsaber, Ragnarock, and Pavlov for so much longer without having to take a break and ruin the immersion because of sweating. @SargonDragon2 жыл бұрын
The Index is still king despite its advanced age. That says a lot more about stagnation of the VR industry than anything else. Several VR headsets have released since the Index, but most of them aren't even intended to be in its class. They're cheaper, more accessible, mobile, whatever. But there's been very little focus on making VR headsets which actually provide a better VR experience. The advantages of the Index become even more substantial if you're big into VRChat where you can get into full body tracking.

I've had an Index for 3.5 years and just paired it with a 13900K & 4090 and WOW! It never looked so good and for some Sim titles I can finally run full Ultra settings which I've never been able to do before. I've got a Reverb G2, but even for Sim titles I find I don't want to use it. The Index tracking is superb and for running room scale games it is absolutely the best thing out there still. The Index Controllers are excellent and the headset at 144fps is truly amazing. I also set it up once 3.5 years ago when I first got it and have never had to touch or recalibrate a thing. It is just perfect and extremely reliable. I won't go into the wonkiness I've run into with the G2, but it has numerous deal breakers even with a FrankenFOV facial interface and OpenXR tweaks.

That Pavz story reminded me of when I was playing on Blood gulch and I was sneaking to red base through the caves on the side when I ran into an enemy who shot at me with his shotgun... and then realized that gun doesn't really work. I just stopped and talked about "yeah that gun is kinda glitchy right now, you have to basically break your arm to pump it." And a couple more guys from each of out teams just kinda wandered in and just joined the conversation. Then we eventually decided to take the party to the rest of the lobby. One of them started playing music through OVRtoolkit or something and we just ran into the middle of the map and started dancing and shooting into the air to the rhythm untill everyone joined in. We eventually had a mongoose race around the map which I barely won and as a prize got a free cap of the enemy flag. Still have a couple clips from that experience saved. Good times.

what keeps me from buying an index, is that its 4 years old and the price never adjusted. things like the good audio and the mic are no arguments for me, since iam sure, my headphones are better anyway and i wanna use those, since the floating design will have noise leak and my enviorment is never dead silent while my headphones are closed design.and yes sure, lighthouse still seems to be the best, and iam totaly willing to pay a thousand bucks, but when the quest3 headset is better in almost every way, besides fov, which isnt the top priority for me, and it comes with controllers and tracking thats 90% of what lighthouse would give me, i really feel that at least the index hmd itself, should be 250 bucks less nowadays. and since iam kinda sensetive to SDE and the index is notorious for that...and the second point: reports about durability of the controllers and baystations. sure i could have different experiences.. but hearing people they went through 5 controllers and 3 basestations ins 4 years is a lot of cost. sure, some maybe warranty replacements.. but after that?
