Actually Paul Wesley (Stefan) recommended Joseph Morgan's name for "Klaus". Producers tried every option they had for Klaus but didn't found anyone compatible, Paul suggest Joseph's name and producers called him on the same day and asked him to come and read the script, and then he was SELECTED 😈😈 Joseph is a wonderful actor and surely he got this role because of his skills but PAUL he is OP man, hatts off to his director instincts he knew which person will be best for this role 👏💕 Edit- He also gave Daniel Gillies (aka Lord Elijah) name for character "Elijah"

KLAUS reveal!! Elena being the one to get information again, love that. Now we know the curse of the sun and moon is fake and that Klaus is actually a vampire and a werewolf. This episode is great bc you get to see a Klaus, Elijah, and Katherine flashback as well as getting to see what Klaus actually looks like. I am a Klaus apologist, yes he’s the villain but I love the character sorry 😭 Joseph is an amazing actor and really did a great job with this role. I don’t really think there’s a ‘right reaction’ to Elena going with Elijah but we as viewers are trusting Elijah bc we’ve seen that he keeps his word and that he’s telling Elena a lot of info but at the end of the day Elena is meeting up with an original, one they previously daggered at that. I think Damon’s instinct is to protect her and he just doesn’t want her to be in a position in which she can get hurt. Makes sense to me bc most people would want to protect someone they love, not just sit back and wait for the worst to possibly happen. It’s not about controlling Elena, he literally never intervenes in her choices unless it has to do with her life being at risk or her being in danger. Doesn’t matter whether Elena is Stefan gf or not, Damon’s still going to care about her lol.

So, her really big choices, life changing choices, those are not up to her... I don't really understand how you are trying to sugarcoat Damon taking away agency from Elena, he is indeed controlling her... You are basically saying that she gets to decide only on the meaningless small aspects of her life, the really big decisions she doesn't get to choose for her, Damon has a say and you are saying it is, what? Ok?... Stefan's position is always going to be the best one morally, not only because he allows her the dignity of her choices but also because this automatically aligns with what Elena wants or expects or who she is... The instances where Damon makes choices regarding Elena and other people get hurt, when he says that he would do anything or let anyone else get hurt in order to save her, etc. It's not only bad because he is taking choices away from her, it is also bad because these are things that Elena would not want to happen, they go against her personality and who she is, so it is bad on several accounts. PS: I also don't know how one can say that knowing full well what happens next episode regarding this very topic.

@@Alewaxon I’m not sugarcoating anything . I’m saying my perspective on Damon’s reaction and I even specified that I don’t think there’s a right reaction. She has survivors guilt and therefore doesn’t care about her own life as much as she cares about others. She will never place the same importance on her own life as she does on the lives of her loved ones. Trying to keep the person you care about alive in this situation makes sense to me. Her being alive or dead is a major decision and it’s one that she doesn’t even think twice about bc once again she has survivors guilt and would choose others over herself, no questions asked. I admire how selfless that is but the truth is she isn’t prioritizing her own life and, like I said, it’s not about controlling Elena. Damon’s motive isn’t to dictate her life, it’s him caring whether she’s alive or not when she isn’t putting her own well-being first. That’s it. She’s not going to get to make major or minor decisions if she isn’t even alive. “Damon is controlling Elena and taking away her agency” and then the said controlling he’s doing is literally not letting her get herself killed. To me, Stefan’s reaction isn’t realistic or how someone would react to their loved one putting themself in life or death situations. Respecting someone’s choices makes sense to me unless it’s dangerous situations which is why although I can see Stefan’s angle, I don’t necessarily think it’s the ‘right way’ to handle things. If you think he makes the best choices or whatever else you want to believe then great, good for you. That’s your opinion. To me l think it’s hypocritical for Stefan to not see where Damon is coming from considering his own past actions. Did I say Damon was always morally correct? No. Did I say he was always right? No. What I did say is that I get the instinct to want to protect your loved one. I know exactly what happens next episode and I’m sure you do too, idk why you think that bringing up next episode would effect what I’m saying about this episode but okay.

@@CamiA487 I don't think bringing up what happens next episode affects what you are saying about what happen 'this episode', I think it affects what you are saying in general about Damon's actions, it affects your whole general point. What you said about Elena's mental state might be right, but it is still her choice and her life... People around her can guide her, talk her down of things, disagree with her and even have fights with her about it, that's all well and good and incredibly important, that's what her loved ones should do, but not to take choices away from her... Specially with regards to her own life, who she is and what she feel of her loved one's lives... I also never said that Damon's motives are to "dictate her life", never even said that his intentions were bad; I fully understand and agree with your summery of his intentions and doing things for your loved ones... All I'm saying it's that it doesn't matter if his intentions are good or understandable, it is still incredibly wrong... I get that all of us would have a desire to protect the ones we love, even from their own choices, but it is not our place for force anything on them; the urge or need to do something might be there, but that's when your brain and your moral compass has to step in and think about the other person's whishes; which is what Stefan does and Damon doesn't. You also mention Damon's and Stefan's past and their own incidents with free will and choices, but I 100% don't think that argument works in your favor... At all... It serves as basis for my stance... Stefan's current viewpoint on free will it's shaped by what he did to Damon, he knows what he did was wrong and made changes to not do such a thing again (BTW, his stance it's not hypocritical, not even close, that word doesn't apply in this situation at all)... Stefan gets criticism (fairly so), and he specially gets a lot of shit from Damon fans (unfairly so, I'm not saying you) for what he did to Damon. They draw a big line when it comes to Stefan taking that choice away from Damon and it is used to villainize Stefan, even tho that the same "justifications" you are using would apply to what Stefan did, but in turn they excuse Damon's actions towards Elena in the same breath... That actually is Hypocritical... Further more, from Damon's POV, he should 100% know better than to act this way towards someone you love, he had this very same thing happen to him, someone took his choice and free will and he knows how that feels; he spend decades angry about it, regretful about it, hurt... He knows how awful this is and how it feels; but rather than learning from it and making sure you never do such a thing to anyone, he in turn does this all the time with Elena and the biggest choices in her life. So no, we are in disagreement...Stefan's reaction makes since given his history and what he learned from it. It doesn't mean that he loves Elena any less or he is ok with her getting hurt, he is putting trust and agency in her hands and helping her along the way (and you know that Elena appreciates it)... Damon's actions while, like I said, I understand and I'm not accusing him of doing it with bad intentions, are still DEAD WRONG; There should be a moment of rationalization, of thinking, of moral consideration that tells him to stop when he tries to force a choice on Elena and that "moment" is never there; which is a problem and a huge characters trait, a bad one, specially after what he experienced with Stefan and not having free will over the most important decision of his life, a death vs life decision.

Even i feel bad when people support Damon and like "awww how much he loves her" but when it comes to Stefan they are like "kill him already". Can't a brother love his brother and the amount of love stefan and damon share is much more than anything else, even Stefan doesn't love elena more than Damon or vice-versa, but some people think unconditional love can happen between a girl or a boy. so many years still some DAMON fans are the same with same mentality

This is a really good episode that finally gives some answers and creates more questions LOL... One thing that you guys have in mind in your discussion, and I know that you are ahead on Patreon but it is probably something worth clarifying: You guys talk about the "power difference" between Elijah and Klaus, and of course we now know that Klaus is part werewolf and that part is suppressed by a curse... But one thing I think it's worth pointing out it's that remember that all of the stories and "info" you were hearing about Elijah and Klaus, the Originals, how Elijah is "just a foot soldier" or weak compared to Klaus, are more or less just legends passed down by un reliable sources and filled with miss information or wrong information... AT THIS POINT, with Klaus' werewolf side still suppressed by the curse, he and Elijah are very much equally strong and powerful (In fact I would say that Elijah would win a fight against Klaus at this point or in the past with both of them being just original vampires, but that discussion brings spoilers for the future)... But they are both closely matched, Elijah is also older than Klaus, he is big bro... The BIG difference between those 2, that usually gives Klaus the upper hand, it's that because of his werewolf side the Daggers that put down the other Originals don't work on Klaus, like Elijah said this episode, that's the only upper hand that Klaus has above Elijah at the moment. There are other reasons why Klaus seems to have a more "prominent" spotlight in the vampire world or among the originals; but it doesn't really have to do with him being actually "more powerful" than Elijah, it has to do with their personalities, who they are and how they operate... Elijah talked about this in episode 11 when he said that "Klaus is the most feared and hated of the Originals", we assume that he says that because Klaus is the most powerful, but no, he says it because, given Klaus' personality and his actions, he has the reputation he has... His "image" it's mostly a reflection of his personality and not actually of his power level above his family, because the reality is that he isn't the most powerful vampire around (this has double meaning lol)... This can also be illustrated by the way people act or react around Elijah; he is incredibly powerful as well and he inspires fear, but he also inspires something that you have never hear said about Klaus, which is people praising him, his honor, his behavior... Elijah inspires fear but he also inspires a hell of a lot of Respect, and the reason that he doesn't inspire the same amount of fear that Klaus does has very little to do with him being "weaker" and more to do with who he is as a person... So yeah, the "power difference" between them as vampires it's really not a thing, they are evenly matched.

It is within Damon's character traits and personality to do this; It is not the first time he does this, he did it with Caroline as well... The writers are showing you that even tho he has change a little bit in some aspects, he is still far from being a decent person, that he still holds terrible notions about what it is to be a vampire and his inability to know or even care to know that he is doing something morally wrong. If a vampire like Caroline, for example, all of the sudden got a compelled guy as her personal blood bag, messed with his mind, used him as a toy boy, etc... THAT would be out of character, that would be a disservice to the character given that what she is doing would be unrecognizable from the Caroline we know... This is not the case with Damon, he has done this and worse, the writers are quite simply showing you that he is not the same, because he treats Andi "better" (and I say better in the most stretched and forgiving way) than he did Caroline, where the abuse was also phycological; but he is still doing the same thing nonetheless... So he has changed but not really; he has changed but not enough, not nearly enough to see the wrongness of the things he does, like this situation with Andi... But it is completely IN CHARACTER for Damon.

When I watched this a few years ago, I felt like all the abuse, mental and physical, that Damon spewed on Vicki, Caroline, Andi, Bonnie and Elana was uncomfortable over all the seasons. I remember reading so many comments about how he just was "lost" so he lashes out and doesn't know better. I hate that excuse for any abuse. 😐

normally it would be in different circumstances but her trying to not let herself be killed isn't it literally every time he tries to make sure she doesn't go is because she could easily be killed they literally tried to kill elijah so many times he could easily get her alone and strike if he wanted to (especially if he didn't want klaus to go through with the ritual the best way is getting rid of the most crucial person), thankfully he didn't you can't tell me if your best friend wanted to hang out with a serial killer you'd just let them out the door and 'make their own decisions' i love elena but some of the things she does is reckless and letting her very likely die and get into extremly dangerous choices to 'make her own choices' isn't it
