When will episode 7x11 be available? I thought it'd be on the 14th since that's a week after this one premiered.

This is the craziest episode ever. I remember when I first watched it. It was 🤯. One of the best episodes of the series

This was so good. If you think about it the reason Damon is so entranced with Elena is that is the only women in his life who didn’t leave him and trusted in him. And why he loves with his entirety - it’s all mother trauma basically. SO good

Forgiving someone doesn't benefit them, it benefits the person who is doing the forgiving. Carrying hatred for someone in your heart...is exhausting. Letting it go...is cathartic. Of course, Damon didn't owe Lily his forgiveness and it would have been totally understandable for him to choose not to forgive her. But this was what he needed in order to finally move toward peace in his own soul. Forgiving Lily was the first step toward forgiving himself. A person can't truly change and grow and improve until they stop running from their past and face it. All of it. No matter how hard and awful those experiences were. And yes, obviously forgiving Lily won't just magically fix everything for Damon, but for the first time in his life, he will have a shot at actually moving on from his past and having some kind of a real future, rather than just being doomed to repeat history. We need to understand and acknowledge what happened in the past in order to learn from it and do better going forward.

I don't think the message was to push damon (the abused) to forgive his mother (the abuser). I think it was to push damon to accept his actual real emotions towards her. He claims he doesn't care about her, he doesn't care that she died, but that is simply not true. He also claims that he has no guilt for the way he handled her death(s) and what he said to her (and didnt say to her: his first eulogy he skipped out on). He has been in denial about his emotions towards losing his mother from the day she got sent away with consumption. Stefan knew deep down that damon was pushing his real emotions aside all along, and so did the pheonix stone. If damon truly didn't want to forgive her, or truly didn't care about her, then there would be no need to push him to do so. If he felt that way, he would have every right to and it would be completely justified considering how terrible of a mother she was, but he didn't actually feel that way. It's about accepting your true feelings. He DOES love and care about her, and he DOES feel guilty for the way he handled her death(s). He never got to express this to her, and now she's gone forever.

i like your point: the show doesn't let damon to hold the grudge, which is weird as hell. like, it's validating an abuser. damon basically suck it up and forgive lily, and the reason he should forgive her...is because he needed her. but she CHOSE to leave him? so, it's weird.

I see it as Damon needed to connect with his true emotions, not necessarily forgive Lily. It's complex but he pretended it was black and white so he could stay angry and avoid caring about her at all. That's his defense mechanism and the stone wanted to break that down
