The best inverse in this show is the fact that Damon was introduced as the bad, evil brother, and Stephen is the classic golden boy archetype. Even in his darkest place, Stefan can't stop lying to himself. He knows what killing Elena will do. He just spent a couple of episodes trying to get rid of Elena so he could get Damon back to work. When it comes to Damon and Stefan without Elena in their lives, you're looking at 2 different people. First, there is Damon. Elena was his only constant, his only grasp on humanity (you might say Stefan kept his dark side at bay, but even in S7, Damon tells Stefan that he has always been a selfish, terrible person/brother until Elena came into his life). "Who is Damon Salvatore without you (Elena)? I am nothing." - Damon in S7. Then, there's Stefan. Stefan's grasp on humanity is fueled by friends, family, love, and many other things. Elena being in a vegetative state doesn't mean as much to Stefan because he has other balances in his life. In my personal opinion, it is stupid and pointless to compare what Damon did in S7 and the beginning of S8 to what Stefan is doing now because his only constant wasn't there and even then, he still tried desperately to stay humane (remember the ending of S8 EP 1?) by clinging on to his memories of Elena. Stefan is ripping because it (for the most part IS who he is). Just my opinion though.

I loved seasons 1-3. 4 was excruciating for me to watch. The only thing I remember and like about season 5 is Silas. Season 6 brought the beautiful friendship of Bamon, and Kai was entertaining. The problem with this show is honestly that the authors do not have enough balls for their incapability to make definitive choices and take them forward, instead looking for leaps to not disappoint the fans by playing the card of the notalgia more than once as when they die A character including the same elena, but they can not keep it dead at all effects .. and here's a ridiculous spell of connection between bonni and elena, sending her into a coma like "beautiful sleepy" style (seriously)for Giving the illusion that sooner or later he will wake up, and here's the ghost of elena gilbert, even dead, continues to persecute us and break the balls. They have completely disrupted the sense of this show, transforming it into a stupid soap opera. The only positive note goes to the epic end reserved for paul wesley, who comes out of the scene as a hero, just as he had entered. And at the bottom of my heart I always thought that stefan was the real protagonist of the show, not damon, not elena, and he is the one who Pronounced these words at the beginning: I'm a vampire, and this is MY story "

Moment of truth: Yeah Stefan had a lot of good qualities and unique pure nature but his love for his older brother was questionable on many aspects. The guy literally WORSHIPPED his older brother as they were kids and viewed him as the savior, the guardian angel and the comforter. Damon did carry all the blame in front of their abusive father for all the mischieve that occured within the household so he shielded his little brother from that madness of a father all of that is perfectly true BUT Stefan grew into a dependent little brother who always needed his brother by his side and HIM ONLY. When Elena chose Damon, Stefan at first dealt with the matter as a jealous bf who lot his gf to his brother but it all later on escalated to a point of losing interest in her because as he later on told Caroline "he needed HIM more than he needed her" so all of this highlights how Stefan was always so needy of his older brother in his life. I think in this scene the ugliest of his innate desires surfed up on the top with no fear of the consequences the guy actually was jealous of Elena and his words truly truly declared that. Stefan was not only jealous of Elena, he was also jealous of Enzo whom he killed in the process though the guy didn't even fight him on approaching Elena! He could have just threatened him, vervained him or threatened harming Bonnie and Enzo had known better than to risk Bonnie life to save Elena in a coffin while she already had a bf to solve his problems and deal with his brother too! Stefan didn't provoke a fight, he just RIPPED the guy's heart out of his chest from his back and then proceeded to the household and I swear he was just so prepared to kill Bonnie too, had she not given him the cure to stop him! So this was a PATTERN. Elena, Enzo and Bonnie maybe if Alaric had been there too he would have faced the same rage as well Stefan darker self was not just needy and dependant it was jealous and never wanted to share Damon as a love source by any means whether as a brother, friend or lover with anybody. Literally ANYBODY so he dealt driven with that instinct. I'm not saying that this was necessarily the real Stefan all the time but he held that aspect of his love for his brother buried deep till it came to the surface in a moment like this
