Sherri said in her police interview over and over that she would NEVER leave her children, but she did. When police let her know they found the house and the pictures they were showing her, that she claimed she didn’t recognize were taken from the rooms where she was kept. She tries to mislead detectives. Well she asks to speak with her husband and she keeps saying “I don’t want them to find her.” “I don’t want her arrested” And when her husband asks why she says “because she’s the reason I get to hug my children every day”. She’s disgusting. She uses her children constantly as an excuse for not speaking to police, as a reason why she wouldn’t run away, and uses them as a reason not to press charges on the younger Hispanic woman that let her go. It’s all because of how much she loves her children. Even though she let them go through hell when they thought their mommy was missing. I read a 55 page criminal complaint which is available online and it lays out in detail all her lies. She actually called up an ex boyfriend and had him pick her up, she went to his house and stayed there for 22 days. James Reyes. He said he never made her do anything, that he gave her his bedroom and he slept on the couch. When they would eat Sherri would only eat a little bit. She started losing weight. He said she wanted him to hit her but he wouldn’t do it. So she would hit herself using a puck machine. He did help with the brand and even got the tools she asked for. He never questioned anything. He also saw her cut her hair and she asked him for cleaning supplies and she which he got that she would put on her skin to cause rashes. He did everything she asked and expected nothing in return. He had no idea she had laid out the kidnap plan in advance. She happily blames him in the police interview and when police tell her he was the person she was staying with voluntarily she just denied it over and over. He thought he was helping a friend who had an abusive husband. He was duped, Keith was duped and the whole community was duped. She stole over 30k from a victim services fund, 49k from a go fund me set up for the family to find her. She’s disgusting. Steals the money. Lies about being kidnapped and uses her children as scapegoats.

It's a contextual clue to paint a narrative picture of what was going on when people thought that she was missing. It's not endorsing the view that blonde women are more delicate or vulnerable... whatever, but it's acknowledging that the notion lingers in our society, however subconsciously. Young children sometimes start out very blonde. So the color is associated with something that's youthful and requiring protection. That's the best explanation I've seen for the bias. That and the eye is just drawn to bright things. Of course dark hair is attractive. Lots of people adore it. It's beautiful and you're lucky, so why bother giving this even a thought? When someone knows a liar and scam artist like Sherri, it is their responsibility to warn anyone who might get involved with them. A woman who was totally self-absorbed and so desperate for attention that she committed a serious crime, had children, children who will never be able to be properly give these very vulnerable young lives the love and attention they deserve. Although her husband will love his children, he might wonder what life could have been if he had never met Sherri.

I remember when that case happened. It was just so strange like something out of a movie. I've watched documentaries about people who were abducted into sex trafficking rings and they always said the kidnappers were men, so I thought it was so strange that two Hispanic women did this when it's normally men since you have to be quite strong to kidnap adults. It all makes sense now that it is exposed as fake. I don't believe the husband saying he didn't know about it though. I remember at the time the police said he was acting strangely and doing things like releasing details after they told him not to. They said don't tell anyone she was branded, and then he wrote all over social media that she was branded. He did everything he could to ruin their case, which suggests he knew things and knew she faked it so he was trying to throw off the police work. He and his wife got a lot of donations and money out of this and he only divorced her when she got sentenced.

A few people had mentioned that while watching the Lifetime movie about this case. The husband was having financial difficulties long before the hoax. The fact that she left those children at a daycare or even just wondering where their mom was all this time, is something I just cannot wrap my head around. You have to really be far off the deep end to consider putting your children through such a traumatic event. I’ve had a terrible childhood and I’ve used my past to ENSURE my children grow up safe and loved. You have power to control your future even if you’ve had a sad past! The fact that she chose to continue the trauma and disregard her children is just so upsetting. She had the power to turn her life around and face her past and say ENOUGH, I’m going to make sure I provide a normal and healthy life for my children and myself, despite my upbringing. If that trauma was so bad that she was forced to lie, runaway & create an alternate reality to cover it up, then this whole saga is just a replay/repeat of the same circumstances. I just finished watching "The Perfect Wife: Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini," and it was truly awful. The third episode was particularly distressing. The truth came out, but Keith, her now ex husband, still had to live with her until the investigation was done. Their argument in the backyard, where she cruelly said, "I have to live with the fact that you never found me," was so evil. Keith had been desperately trying everything to bring her home, while she was actually living with her ex. It was incredibly disrespectful and disgusting. Additionally, when Keith revealed that she made the kids breathe alcohol fumes to take them to the hospital, it was horrifying to realize she almost endangered their lives too. What a shame! It’s hard to fathom how someone could go to such lengths and cause so much pain. The way Sherri manipulated everyone, especially Keith, was truly appalling. Watching Keith beg her "kidnappers" to bring her home, only to find out she was with her ex the entire time, was heart-wrenching. Maybe she was hoping for that. Like “let’s see what happens” kind of thing. If she was stupid and cruel enough to pretend to be kidnapped, she obviously didn’t care about her family. She knew spouses/partners are the first to be under suspicion and she did it anyway.

It's systemic racism, that is so baked into the fabric of American society, that corporate media chooses profit (missing-white-woman syndrome) over people they deem less valuable in every aspect. It's that more despicable...especially when you consider that the majority of those who make false reports to the police are predominantly white women.
