There’s a case of a murdered young woman / teenager in Germany, I think from the 80s or 90s, where the mother of a missing young woman never dared to move house in case her daughter came back and she kept a candle on her window sill to show her where to go in the dark. It turned out a neighbour / a young man had murdered her and buried her and the mother had looked out of that window in the direction of her daughter’s grave. So incredibly heartbreaking.

The fact this case is almost a century old with no solution is heartbreaking. I’d be extremely interested in other similar cases in the area or the state. This could highlight if there was a serial killer or a child kidnapping ring working at the time. It definitely seems he was taken, but was it planned or an impulsive act by a predator? Whatever happened to him, I hope he is at peace. Those parents, how many dead children did they see at the morgue hoping to find their son?! That’s absolutely horrific, what strong people.

That's exactly what I was wondering as well- what happened while he was watching Richard? Unfortunately each source I looked had had the same scant amount of information. But one source I did find stated that the older brother was inside and watching Richard through a window, and anyone who has babysat knows there is a huge difference between watching from inside and actually being out with the child. Maybe the older brother looked away for longer than he thought he had? Kids get distracted so easily that's my best guess.

Like, I’m just wondering if the police ever talked extensively to him or did they just assume he was being a rebellious teen and not really watch his brother and didn’t see anything? It feels like a hole in the whole story, to me at least. I wish there was more, I wish there was more evidence or interviews with his siblings and his parents, because it just so sad that Richard literally disappeared without a trace and no one saw anything. I’m not saying the brother was involved or anything, but I feel like the police kinda dropped the ball here; and it was the 1940’s though too, it just feels like an opportunity was lost. Whatever happened, I hope Richard didn’t feel any pain or was scared.

@@edgaralanfrog Exactly. Unfortunately since those were the days that children were believed to be incapable of committing something so horrible, they likely questioned his brother very little. I know of one case in the 70's I believe, an older brother(teens) and younger sister were playing on a construction site and the sister hit her brother when he told her no to something (I think it might have been money related). So brother pushed sister and she fell and her head was impaled (I believe) and he panicked and hid her body. Everyone believed it was an abduction until he came forward decades later and admitted what happened. Sadly, even though he told police where to find her, so much time had passed and the area had changed so much they never found her. Something similar may have happened to poor little Richard. I hope he rests in peace.

Either this poor baby had a freak accident somewhere where his tiny body is hidden from view or someone did something to him. Sadly the latter is more probable.
