Unfortunately there are lots of vile humans out there who do use people's vulnerabilities against them. It's awful. I feel so bad for the Jack family. They were struggling and desperate for jobs. Unfortunately they came in contact with a pile of human trash instead of a genuine job offer.

This story of the missing Jack family always saddens me. A couple wanting to care for their children were taken advantage of solely due to their underlying concern just for their children.

This story really breaks my heart. This couple suffered so much in their lives and all they wanted was to give their children a better life. The fact that someone could be so cruel and callous as to make a whole family disappear is just unfathomable to me. I feel like the most likely thing that happened is that they met with foul play but I hope that they just decided to start over somewhere new and that they’ve lived a happy life.

The strangest thing about this case is that witnesses apparently not only heard that entire detailed conversation in the bar, but nobody intervened? I know this was decades ago when people were less suspicious, but if I overheard some guy offering a down-on-his-luck man and his wife perfect jobs and free daycare as long as they packed up their kids right that second at 1:00 am and left with him, I'd have some concerns. Makes me wonder how much of what supposedly happened even happened.

Yeah, I was wondering how did the story even get out if they left immediately with this supposed mysterious pale man? It seems like the extended family of the missing knew this elaborate story of them going missing but when were the missing couple actually able to tell their circle what they were even up to? Did they call them from a payphone at the bar or something? I don’t get it.

There is a reason why MMIWgts existed for decades.....indigenous people are treated like second class citizens. The indifference to indigenous people lives is highlighted in how police treated cases and also the common conversations you see in coffee shops across canada. No one cared and same sentiments are still being shared across canada and the states. Helen Betty Osbourne's death showed how easy it was for a community to have knowledge of her brutal murder and keep quiet for decades. Books like "just another indian" are so numerous in verifying canada's indifference yet that knowledge hasn't made any change.... people still dont care. Squires Castle comment highlights the ignorance surrounded what life is like for indigenous people. Trust me when I say if a native man killed a non native person....no one would ignore that. So no Ronnie was not going to kill a non native and get away with it. Yet it took 8 years for the murder of George Many Shots to be seen as a hate crime.8 years. How many people know that? Hate crimes are rarely tried as such and is successfully tried. Why is it not common knowledge....no one cares what happens to indigenous people.

I remember this story. I was pleased police were actually investigating given their track record in some cases involving our Native & Inuit people. I think what moved people was that it was an *entire family* , nothing could be more horrendous. Two still very young parents, and two babies...god rest their innocent souls. Of course their lives mattered! Dig a little deeper please RCMP/local cops!! Rest In Peace, Ronnie, Doreen, and little Russell and Ryan.🌹😔🌹. 🇨🇦
@ejais

You will find indigenous people take offense when canadians use the term "our" when canadians speak about indigenous people. Reason being is that kind of claim to "ownership" is what created the indian act and all the horrific policies that oppressed indigenous people's lives. Indigenous people are their own sovereign people and did/do not want to be treated as children nor as second class citizens to be paraded out like the good silver as in the old days. side note on the case...since we do not know what happen to this family it is presumptuous to claim they are all deceased. If there is one thing I have learned about the 60s scoop is that A LOT of survivors were taken from their families and given completely different identities while being adopted out across the world. One survivor discovered she was declared deceased by canadian govt just so they could bypass legalities to adopted her to a family in the states. People were paid to sell indigenous children. In sk alone there was a social worker who was given a monetary award for apprehending the most children to be adopted out. The program AIM literally had a whole wall of children written up in newspapers to sell/adopt to non indigenous families around the world. BC got into trouble a few years back for trying the same thing.

The sheer volume of horror that indigenous peoples have been through already throughout their lives following the Europeans taking their land, homes, lives and culture. There bodies were eventually found buried in the California desert. It is my heartfelt hope that the Jack family is also found soon as their family and friends have grieved over their disappearance for so very long. The neighborhood was and is to this day, a low income area. There are a lot of problems with drugs, alcohol, and homelessness in the area. My partner and I are around the same age as Ronnie and Doreen were and the desire to find something better hits home very hard. My parents likely lived in the neighborhood when the Jacks disappeared. I can't help but wonder if they heard of anything. Edit: I asked. They were. At one point, the Jacks were their neighbors in the trailer park. They remembered the case completely and how shocked everyone was at the time. It's stuck with them all these years. It's heartbreaking and I truly hope that one day this family gets the closure they deserve.

A family whose Mother had suffered abuse and sexual assault, was homeless and finally trying to get back on her feet with a husband and children are living off state welfare in Canada in the early 90s. Ronnie meets an unknown male who promises a well paying job and place to live for the entire family ....too good to be true. This man swindled these people into working in a logging ranch where Doreen could work as a cook and the kids had daycare. Not only that. The man offering the job was driving the entire family who had no car to this better life ... I'm sadly not surprised they were never seen or heard from again. The poor family. Kind trusting and desperate for a chance at a decent life were most likely murdered. There was no jobs or daycare at the Logging camp with the place to live and work in Burns Lake. this case is so, so tragic and horrifying. as much as i hate saying it, i feel like they probably were kidnapped, tortured and killed. the story kind of reminds me of the wells gray national park murders, where a lone perpetrator by opportunity came upon a camping family. he stalked them for a few days, and then attacked them during a late evening. he shot and killed the two parents and grandparents, and then held the two daughters captive for a couple of weeks before killing them as well. i feel like the man at the bar (obviously) was a sinister individual with some disturbing fantasies and, maybe under the influence of alcohol, saw his opportunity and took it. the jobs and daycare-story feels like something he made up during the conversation based on what information he was told to make the offer sound almost irresistable. at the same time, the jobs being specifically at a logging site may have been a go-to story to make sure in advance that no questions would be asked later on about being driven into the wilderness. maybe he had scouted the bar or area previously for possible victims, fitting the same profile as the Jacks. he obviously targeted an innocent and struggling indigenous family with undoubtedly sinister intentions and absolutely played on their desperation and hope for a better life. absolutely heartbreaking

It all goes back to their background and history. Many barely have any families or anything is known about their past. There is just so much the RCMP can do. I have a First Nation friend who is a police officer and he says that many of these cases are very hard to solve because families don’t want to give out info due to ties to drugs and abuse.and since most of victims are homeless or don’t have any address or families they have issue tracing them. @@GoddesssAphrodite Do you know why the RCMP was created? To control and "address the indian problem". That mindset and training still continues today. Meaning your "first nation friend who is a police officer"(pretty racist statement in itself.."I know what I am talking about because I have a first nation police officer friend") is trained to see his own people as a problem and is trained to be biased. You just have to see the cases where native actors, used in the rcmp training videos, who were profiled by police members as criminals and treated as such with no crime committed. First nation relations with policing authorities have always been contentious because of systemic racism (who do you think was sent to remove children for residential schools and apprehend them if they ran away?). Then you have the starlight tours...a common issue among city police across canada. You own last comment highlights your ignorance and prejudice towards native people. Using blanketed ball park racism with no factual information to back up your statement raises big flags that you should not even feel entitled to contribute to this discussion.

This case strikes me as so odd. It seems like the probable perpetrator would have had no way to pre-meditate anything given the spontaneous nature of Ronnie meeting the stranger. Also, I find it strange that he readily put himself in a position where it would be 4 against 1 instead of just taking Ronnie somewhere on his own. Just such a strange case. I hope one day the family can be given justice and the Jack's returned home. Edit: Not sure why people in the replies are being strange about my opinion but whatever. When I say 4 against 1 I don't necessarily mean that I think the kids are gonna put up a big fight and be a massive adversary for the stranger. I mean that the stranger willingly put himself in a situation where he would need to physically have control over four beings without any of them running away. Could you imagine trying to wrangle two children and two adults that don't want to do what you want? Much more difficulty than only having to deal with one or two people.

Indians and the American govt had an agreement where they are given land and free reign of their societies without any interference from the USA in any way, that's why they don't pay taxes or follow the same laws as civilians. This is a double edge sword as these nations also do not get to benefit from resources used by regular US citizens, they are conducted within the reservation. Americans generally are not involved in the lives and societies of Indians because this was what both sides agreed to.

They left after drinking in a bar. They say Mr Jack had a couple of drinks. We don’t know how long the stranger had been drinking. It’s possible the stranger fell asleep at the wheel or left the road because he was too drunk and the vehicle could have ended up in water or over a steep embankment. I’ve traveled those roads, you have to be focused, especially at 1:00 am. Many people have died trying to avoid a large animal. I’d check all water sources, and there are many.

Sounds like a thrill kill. Murderer figured no one would miss them, but at the same time, he still didn't want to get caught. Opportunistic murderer. My own thoughts: The Jack family should have dampened their enthusiasms and used their heads by getting a second opinion on this, specifically finding out whether anyone could vouch for this guy as to his sincerity. I mean, it did seem rather odd that their new employer needed to leave lickety split at 1:00 o'clock in the morning (what's the rush and because it's unheard of hiring someone that early in the a.m. on the spot to report for work) and also, why is it that this employment just happened to be conveniently equipped with a day care facility, some rough logging camp providing an amenity like day care for its employees?! Never heard of such a thing. I would think that inquiring from someone familiar with that logging area they were headed for would certainly be worth making before choosing to leave with a stranger you know nothing about whom you just met in a bar. Despite their lack of judgment, I still feel bad about the horrific thing that I know must have happened to them.

This is a very perplexing and tragic case. The motive for family murders is usually money or to preserve a reputation or keep something secret, but none of those motives would apply if the killer was a stranger. It wasn't a drug deal either. The Jack's cannot have provoked it in any way as the man was a stranger. If the motive was sexual it's unlikely the stranger was into men, women and children. If he wanted to, he could have targeted a woman or child who would be easier to subdue than an entire family. I don't believe the family ran away to start a new life as they had no reason to and were close with their families. I don't believe they are still alive, because they would have been in touch with their families. If they were used as forced labour I believe they would eventually have escaped and it's unlikely their captor could have successfully controlled them for this length of time. Possibly, the vehicle did slip off the road into a body of water and all drowned ( it's happened so many times before )but even if this is the case, the stranger's insistence that they go immediately to his property is a major red flag.

Exactly, I guess there's no clear motive here which is the most frustrating part of the case. I also feel like Ronnie wanted to back out by saying he doesn't have a car to go there, I've heard different versions of this story & in one of them the family had left in their own car. Could he have been forced into something that night or pressured after resisting to take the job?? It's just a very random and brutal attack on an unsuspecting family for some unknown reason.
