Thanks for this video. Those who disagree need to face the fact that they categorise dogs anyway. I love talking to people at dog parks, and this is the categories they put dogs into: long hair, short hair, non-shedders, smart, dumb, beautiful, cute and scary. And that's why they end up buying the wrong dog.

I've got an ACD (had them for over 20 yrs) and people are always surprised at how many hours go into full on exercise of her . I'm exhausted but she will go for another few hours very happily. Love all of the work you do. Clear and concise - fabulous 👏❣

Great Series!!! Ive worked with animals & yes you cant group all animals in categories bc you cant generalize all dogs . However it does help understand a dog behavior traits bc then u can help them better & help them find a suitable home & owners that will help a dog thrive!

At 8:10 the lonely woman who wanted a dog for lack of a boyfriend seems pretty ordinary to me. A lot of women were rejected or otherwise hurt by guys and a dog will not call her at odd hours or issue threats, etc. It's odd, but there is some logic to the woman's remarks. At about 9:50 , it makes sense that a pitbull would be really into chasing a ball or Frisbee or rubber toy. The drive to bite and shake it and carry it is built-in and we can use that desire to retrieve for training.... work WITH the dog's nature to help it learn to get by in our world. A trained terrier dog likely will be adopted... and untrained one not likely to be.

I agree and am amused by the fact that my ECS never got the memo that she is not a sighthound. She showed a real propensity for chasing lures so I took her to a doggy type festival where for a small fee your dog could have a go at lure coursing....she was really into it. For the rest of the day, I had to drag her past the fenced area where they had this magical gizmo(she is normally quite obedient).

I was excited to hear what the drive was for Toy Group dogs. (and it wasn't mentioned). We have a Havanese (Toy Group) that thinks a Terrier.

My dog is very non protective for a GSD when it comes to people but is with other dogs which randomly started when he turned 3 or a little bit around there and stopped interacting with most dogs.

This guy is great. At the end when he talks about how his dog gets 2 miles a day on the treadmill and other stuff, that is nothing for a dog like that! Morning and night at least 3miles trotting/running would be needed.

I grew up with a Border Terrier and later had a West Highland White Terrier. I'm considering taking the leap into having a BIG dog, and was looking at getting a Bullmastiff. Do people think it is an okay idea? I am of course planning on socializing the heck out of it, and giving it as much training as a Bullmastiff can do, to make it as well behaved as possible.

Shout out to Doug H. below; a real pitbull is a medium sized Staffordshire terrier with a jaw like a crocodile. I know mostly guys who have pitbulls; they're crossed with anything from a Rottie to in one case Irish setters. it's a murky area, due to agressive people encouraging their dogs to behave in agressive ways. No question; dogs are predators not prey; my 10 lb Peke if she could ever actually catch a squirrel … let's not think about that scenario, have a feeling the squirrel would win. In regard to observations about women finding dog companions preferable to guys if they've been hurt -- let's get real, no argument from me I was simultaneously in love with John Lennon and a Shetland pony whose mission in life was to do me in when I was 8 yrs old and never regretted either infatuation. Enjoyed your comment! My sis makes more money than I and has a rescue ranch outside Toronto where all are welcome. Needless to say, we're both vegan. I like these series of lectures because they are realistic. This guy knows what he's talking about. This was probably covered in one of his talks, but the wolf pack that we imagine to be strictly hierarchical alpha/beta is more diffuse than that. It's an extended family; my Dad worked in the Yukon when he came to Canada and had a lot of opportunity to observe this phenomenon, also made fast friends with a malamute to whom he was devoted. Best wishes!

Pits were terriers crossed with bull-baiting dogs for more gameness. So as if we needed a breed even more eager to kill stuff and harder to deter from danger, we figured it out for blood sports. It's not a coincidence that pits make up 2/3rds of human fatalities, about 90% of pet/livestock fatalities, and overcrowd animal shelters. Fortunately, there are lots of pits that aren't really game at all, but those aren't the ones selling $10k+ a puppy.

Pitbulls arent being sold at 10k they arent those type of dogs to sell at that price not are they sought after by people who could afford that. For the most part theyre being owned by idiots who come from a certain lifestyle and there is an over abundance of them.

$10k for a puppy pit bull? I see high prices for designer bullies and average prices for the blockier Amstaffs with papers but not APBT mixes. Besides, the shelters and rescue centers have lots of these dogs for adoption. I got my adopted 50 lbs pit and she’s scared of my 15 lbs cockapoo but I do see a strong prey drive with her.

faultroy The vast majority of “Pit Bull Attacks” come from mutts, not from American Pit Bull Terriers.

Dixie Normous Not sure what to believe about these dogs. My adopted pit bull mix is submissive but she may have in the past been abused based on her reaction to young men of a certain type. I have never owned this type of dog before. I conclude that this may be more of an issue of the owners than the dog. This is unfortunately a sad world for many of these type dogs. For me they are ideal dogs, good medium size, robust health, minimal shedding/grooming, and fairly trainable.

@faultroy No offense, but your logic that Pit bulls simply aren't raised right is faulty for one simple reason. Are the other hundreds of dog breeds and countless mutts all perfectly raised? Yes or No? Literally hundreds of thousands of other dogs are abused and they DON'T KILL.

Pit bulls are trouble, because of horrible owers. I don't like them, sorry I don't. If you own one you got to train the aggression out of them. My Aunt bought an Australian Blue Heeler. I really don't like it. She never taught to not nip at people's heels. 😑 Annoying. I am not a sheep. It has way too much engery. She should have done her research.😑

LittleImpaler ... A good rescue/foster will train the aggression out of them. Pits are naturally very loving, affectionate dogs. If you can get a puppy that is the best thing. Puppies might still have been abused so be careful and don’t get any age pit bull with small children around.

LittleImpaler ... my neighbor just got an Australian Heeler puppy and she lives in a condo. The dog is adorable but constantly nipping & biting.
@LittleImpaler

@@casandra750 Of course. It's been breed to herd sheep so it bites at the ankles of people. Hence when people buy a dog they need to do their research and not be stupid.

_Every_ dog has to learn not to nip at people. _Almost_ every dog has to learn what we deem acceptable and not acceptable behavior in regards to other dogs. That's really not exclusive to pitbulls.
