Mother provides X chromosome which she has gotten either from her mother or her father's mother. Father can provide Y chromosome that he has gotten from his father or X chromosome that he has gotten from his mother. Girl is born when the two X chromosomes from the three possible sources (all mothers/women are present). Boy is born when Father's part replaces one of the mother's contribution. In other situations e.g. XXY or XYY there is a different balance of resulting hormones leading to a variation of male or female gender. So, if translated appropriately - it is not incorrect. Biology has considerably advanced since then but their are aspects of Garbha Upanishad that have stayed unexplored and must be looked into. That will be done by those like us - so thanks Project Shivoham for the videos you make. They are very concise, informative and well made.

For todays understanding, it can open a new perspective. Bcz.... XYis the male chromosome While XX is female chromosome. Hence, what determines a male... Is Y and what determines a female is X. A male, can get this X component only from his mother and never from his father. So, when it says "matuH reto.. Stree bhavati". Its right in every sense.....( you mentioned its wrong). That means when the female component is in excess or predominant a girlchild is born. So when matuH component is mentioned, its not "from mother". It is "from, what determines a female".i. E is the X component. Its very much in line with todays scientific advancements as well. Did I make sense? Ayurveda related texts specially the बृहत्त्रयी i. E. चरक संहिता, सुश्रुत संहिता and अष्टाङ्ग संग्रह (&अष्टाङ्ग हृदय ) explain the same in detail. In addition Ayurveda has therapies to undergo, to prevent the risk of possible congenital diseases as well. For detail information, I urge couples planning for pregnancy to consult a Ayurveda vaidya near your area.

It makes me happy to find this video, to realise that civilization on the Indian subcontinent, like many other ancient civilizations, flourished so much. There's a growing conciousness in the recent years regarding rediscovering our glorious past, urging more and more people to not be blinded by the truth shown to us by Western achievements (which, colonies like India are prone to) and look at our past unbiasedly. I would like to highlight the fact that this is how History is. Its trajectory is very unpredictable and random. Who knows, that students in Nalanda University or the likes, in ancient or Middle Ages DID read and know about scriptures like the Garbha Upanishad! With the tide of time, the glorious past got washed away. Invasions and colonization happened- all the glorious achievements got buried in the battlefields. In a bid to rise from the period of misery, people on the same land of India were now moulded to look at things from the colonizer's point of view. These colonizers were the Europeans who were coming out of *their* Dark Ages and discovering things that they didn't know had already been known to the ancestors of people they had colonized. Naturally, they happened to progress with their advancements, and claim that it was their responsibility to spread civilization to the 'uncivilized' parts of the world (a philosophy that strengthened the idea of colonization). For a couple of centuries, this remained the norm, the mainstay of the line of thought for the intelligentsia, after which, now, things are changing again. Therefore, the whims of *History* are more to blame than 'we', for pushing our glorious past into oblivion.

Namaskaram Anna. Great work. This is something I have never heard of. But astoundingly scientific. I wonder how they envisioned the developments. Few comments. All the observations on the fetal development were about external morphology at different time period, this explains the thorough research by a series of autopsies on the still born or dead fetuses done at various intervals. And about the 7th month. The auspicious thing about 7th month of gestation is the fetus become viable for delivery. That means if the fetus is prematurely delivered at 7 months or after, the chances of the baby to survive are much higher than if it was before 7 months. This happens because of the maturity of the lungs, capability of breathing (jiva/soul) Hence this landmark is celebrated as "SRIMANTAM" or "Godhbharai". And about the sex determination. Don't know if what I am speculating is true. It is happening on the basis of external genetilia and it sometimes can be very difficult to identify if the baby was delivered early.. Cheers. "SRIMANTAM" or "Godhbharai" - very perfect part that our people especially ladies perform know from ages when the soul gets into womb and had to perform such ritual for pregnant women. One more surprising thing - that people by looking at women womb can predict that she going to bore boy or girl. And it comes very perfect. I know a man who by looking at boy, said that your wife going to give birth to boy and it came true. Still no need of any modern science, our people are very much capable of it in natural mean.

When the entire concept is so clearly explained and scientifically correct, I think explanation for gender formation may also be correct. Point No.2 - It is definitely related to the X or the Y chromosomes, but I guess it should be something related to Vaata, Pitta & Khapha body condition of the woman / acidic, basic or neutral condition of the yoni which may destroy the Y chromosome or hinders the movement of Y chromosome. (Just my thought process) One can't rule out the science our great Maharishi's have cause we don't know which tools they used to draw conclusions. Great effort and explanation! With reference to the slide at 13:25, there is a joke/abuse in Telugu that is frequently used in movies. A person is called నెల తక్కువ వెధవ! (born a month early). Most people nowadays take it in the sense that someone was born through a pre-marital relationship and that is in the sense of abuse. Yet, because this was also used in the older movies, even in the B&W era, I now see that they knew that perception and cognition is fully developed only in the 9th month and use it to mean that someone is a fool or dimwit. So, thank you for bringing this to us. But, unfortunately, a few typo errors are creeping in, in some of your recent videos (example here, mouse for mouth). Lovely video and informative, I would've forwarded this to many 1000s of my friends and community and they would've benefited greatly, however due to you stating that the sex of baby due to x and y is wrong in the Upanishad I will not do so. You may say, that 'in my opinion this is not proven in modern science' however to say outright that the Upanishad is incorrect shows lack of humility on you part, as that is your opinion and understanding, but not the fault of the Upanishad. This has been explored fully that an abundance of one or other type of chromosome will influence the gender of the baby, even modern science is staying that. One concern with the video: Condition for determining gender of the baby empahtically stated as "wrong" in the Upanishad without any proof whatsoever. Just because it does not match the current scientific criteria does not mean it is wrong. They are two different frameworks and direct comparision is inappropriate. Upanishads are shrutis and true to the last word!
