This song blows your head off and shifts its rhythms around especially when John Cale’s organ weaves its way into the mix.

One of the most ferocious and menacing organ performances in the entire Rock history.
@nullvoid2443 ай бұрын
Almost 60 years later and to my ears this studio performance is unrivalled in its ferocity. The things that they are doing in this still surprise me. Cale and Reed being the most obvious ones with their sheets of feedback (never heard anyone make an organ sound like that) but even Morrison is doing some really aggressive playing. They were so far ahead of their time it was ridiculous. Even today there are very few bands who can summon this level of aggressiveness while still making it a compelling piece of music and not just a noise jam. Swans are the main one who come to mind. You did a really good job with this remix, kudos.

I randomly searched youtube to see if there were any fan remixes of VU's albums and I came across your two remixes. I have to say, I am incredibly impressed with the work you did. Everything is so well-balanced and cleaned up while retaining the abrasiveness You can hear stuff a seasoned listener might miss. These remixes were like putting on a pair of new glasses, and these might be my go-to listens for these albums. Thank you for doing this.

i love the fact that Sister Ray was a shitty mix. it fit's the song. the songs a story that's about as messy a Selby influenced story could be. As least that's what it is to me, except I read Selby after I heard Sister Ray, but there it is a goddamn rockn' roll mess of a Selby cut-up. if you want to hear some better recordings of this song I recommend the Matrix Tapes. those are the best Velvet cuts of many of their songs recorded a year later. live, sounds like everything was mic'd directly into a soundboard: great sounding! Just for Sterling's explosive lead and Lou's distortion heavy "power chords"if you can call them that, they are on the top of their capabilities as the VU.

Great work as usual. Morrison's guitar sounds a little brittle at times tho, almost like it's coming out of a broken speaker. I wonder if you could do something about that

This is practically impossible to fix because that was how it was recorded, there's really not much you can do.

@@ant2manbee931 How well did the AI separate the guitar track? We can always try running it through different plugins, FX, compression, EQ, etc., to see how we might help it sound "beefier"...
@ant2manbee931 Жыл бұрын
@@AppleOno It really depends on the song. I noticed that the AI have problems with heavily compressed songs and sometimes I needed to extract each channel separately. Funny enough, the extractions on Sister Ray were pretty good when comparing to, let's say, Here She Comes Now. And then later you'll also might need to mess with channel mixers and compressors on audio editing software in order to isolate each element.

Sounds great! Which software did you use for stem extraction? If you'd be willing to share the isolated organ stem it would be greatly appreciated.
@parmaleedog8 ай бұрын
Ah, nevermind. I see that you've already noted that the organ is impossible to isolate from Lou's guitar. Thanks anyway!

I used the mvsep website which provides the Demucs4 algorithm for extractions.

So is that Sterling on the left channel and Lou and John are on the right with Maureen ... Actually was they're a lot of leakage this made it challenging to remix ? Almost sounds like Lou over dubbed his guitar and had two guitar tracks but this was live so that is what Sterling played on the left channel...

I could, but I have to organize the session project first and upload it 'cause my project it's kinda messy. If you want you can also try sending the song on mvsep website to extract the stems.
