Hoçam the y is only for nouns (hastaydım) and not for verbs (anladım) when ending on a vowel ?

Not really, it depends on the situation. In your example, the case is very different. Anla-dı-m is the known past tense of the verb "anlamak". If you use future tense with the same verb, then you would need a buffer letter, because the verb stem ends in a vowel and the suffix begins in a vowel. Anla-y-acağ(k)-ım Hastaydım is very different than that. -dı in this one, is not known past tense suffix however ever it is the known past tense copula. The original version of hastaydım is "hasta idim". (idim is the known past tense conjugation of the copulative verb for the 1st singular person.) When we attach that past to the nominal (hasta), -i drops and the buffer letter -y is used in between (hastaydım.) Merhaba, çok güzel bir videoyu. Teşekkür ederim. The following text is correct, according to a friend of mine who is a Turkish native speaker: "En yakın arkadaşımın adı Katarina'dır. O Slovakyalıdır ama Avusturya'da yaşıyor. O yeşil gözlü, uzun kahverengi saçlı, zayıf ve kısa boylu bir kadındır." I however don't understand why I need to write the "-dır" suffix in the following words: "Katarina'dır", "Slovakyalıdır" and "kadındır". My friend just told me that it sounds more natural if I do so, but this explanation doesn't help me at all. 😅 Can You please enlighten me? Is it maybe that I have to use the old Turkish when I am describing someone?

Hi there. Let me explain this way. To answer your question: This is not natural at all. The sentences can be accepted correct grammatically. -dır copula is not necessary at all. Let me write how we say these sentences (without making them how natives would form these sentences. "En yakın arkadaşımın adı Katarina. O Slovakyalı ama Avusturya yaşıyor.O yeşil gözlü, uzun kahverengi saçlı, zayıf ve kısa boylu bir kadın." And now, how natives would form these sentences: "En yakın arkadaşımın adı Katarina. Slovakyalı ama Avusturya yaşıyor. Yeşil gözlü, uzun kahverengi saçlı, zayıf ve kısa boylu bir kadın." In Turkish, there is no need to announce the personal pronoun again and again until you change the personal pronoun. (Take a look at this kzbin.info/www/bejne/oV6mmGCtoJKAg5o. If you wanna be nicer, you would say: "En yakın arkadaşımın adı Katarina. Slovakyalı ama Avusturya yaşıyor. Katarina yeşil gözlü, uzun kahverengi saçlı, zayıf ve kısa boylu bir hanımefendi." Concerning -dır copula. This is actually the simple present tense of the copulative verb. However, this is traditioally used for generalization and assumption purposes in nominal sentences. If you use this copula in the sentence above, it makes it sounds it so so formal, other than that it sounds so weird to the native ear. "Avusturya'da yaşıyor." means "He/She/It lives in Austria." Literal translation is "He/She/It is living in Austria." "Avusturya yaşıyor." can be translated as "Austria lives." or better to say "Avusturya is alive." But for sure this does not make any sense. :)
