The Vergecast Meta of saying that David shouldn't do ads to having an ad that he voices in this episode is *chefs kiss*

David, your intros on these Tuesday podcasts are one of my favorite parts! In particular, the one from a few months ago where the overarching theme was “sometimes you just need a change”, and you listed off very simple things, like rearranging your desk or swapping out your phone case, was extremely relatable to me, as I too struggle with wanting to buy things just to scratch that itch. Thank you for being personable and vulnerable in that way, instead of merely brandable. :)

I would bet a significant amount that David’s intros are bringing substantial engagement to the podcast. I only got hooked because of the video intro because I prefer “second screen” video podcasts (which is why I’m here)

1:00 I mean, I will admit I super don't care about these silly intros, but respect for the "Probably a fair point, but it's also probably not gonna change." 😂

I feel it's important to say that Helen changed my mind about subscribing, something Nilay could not do. She made it clear there's work to do and you guys intend to make this an even richer experience, so I'm giving my support. Also, I think that people who care about good work, and good content, journalism and truth, signal that somehow. My way is paying for the Verge and never paying for chatGPT.

Noooooo, don't listen to people who want fewer episodes. Gimme Vergecast all day everyday. Every other podcast is a lower priority. ❤️

I’ve never really thought about ads on The Vergecast and only due to this episode was reminded that there is a universe without KZbin Premium. Also, $50 is a good price point FYI. It is completely worth it to support a great organization.

It's interesting how David says at 40:42 that they won't do ads where they sell personal experience with the product or call-outs to how they use it, but then we have the Producer reading a grammerly ad that specifically calls out David Pierce (maybe ok under David's standard), but also talks about how the producer personally uses the product on every email they send to a guest. David 40:42: "you see a lot of podcast ads where one thing they really want is like personal experience right so you hear your podcast host talk about the product they got and why they like it that's part of the ad The Advertiser pays more money for that and we just resolutely won't do that. We just don't do it." Producer-read ad 1:06:49: "I personally use grammar leaf for every email I send out to a guest for this podcast and it's just great peace of mind knowing I haven't made any typos"

I love The Verge! I will subscribe soon once I have some more savings. Please give an app - the website keeps logging me out frequently on Apple Safari! If not a proper app - at least a PWA compatible with Safari Podcasts chapters too please

Anyone who questions how the lightning round sponsor will affect their coverage should go listen to last Friday’s episode where they spend almost half the show trashing AI and then reveal that the lightning round is sponsored by Amazon AI

I’m begging at the point, please film the mid week pod… i will pay the subscription if I can watch the video version on youtube. please. I still don’t understand why it’s audio only

I dont usually go to the website (the website is great. am just not much of a reader). But I listen to all the podcasts from Verge. They are quite fun. Do you have any Patreon or something where I can donate 2~3 dollars a month ?
@antonlovesteaАй бұрын
You failed the communication. I will not pay nor continue reading the Verge. If you launched supporter tiers or premium, I would go for it. I loved Verge. But day by days the love goes by, and its not only my fault

I like the multi-episode format of The Vergecast now. Friday episodes (usually) feel very different from the others posted during the week, which allows me to self-select what type of content I'm interested in. I'm ALWAYS up for Friday banter. Disclosure: My post was not sponsored by anyone, nor does anyone have any ownership interest in me or my post, other than perhaps my wife, and she doesn't care about this tech junk.

If Patreon is the internet's "Tip Jar" and subscriptions are an "admission fee," The Verge and your publisher need a "referral program" because it sounds like that WAS social media and search...

Listeners from outside the US (I live in the EU) don’t get the Goblins book. Can we have something else? Just send us merch. Also, the monthly price may be a good deal on US salaries, but please think that where I live is more like the price of a full meal)

I would like to get the Verge Subscription, but 50 Dollars in INR is like a lot more money. The Exchange rate makes it a bad value, especially as a Uni Student. I don’t know how this can be fixed but if it was i would get the subscription. Additionally I wont even get the verge print mag(More salty about this tbh). I have already been hindered in reading the Verge by the subscription banner.:-(

Oh, the positive reaction to the introduction of subscriptions... readers are subscribing like crazy. And it probably won't have anything to do with the fact that you've practically built a paywall. One opens the article, scrolls and whoops, the site controls are disabled and the only option is to either buy a subscription or go to the main site. Everybody wants a subscription these days and I have so many already, I'm having a hell of a time deciding if I'm going to go for another one. Your super-aggressive attitude is rather putting me off.
@robin214389Ай бұрын
Subscription in india costs around 650 rupees per month which is way too high. Here ott services and music subscriptions cost half as much or even lesser. Subscribed for a month but might be my last subscription for the verge😬

All ads are bad ads. They're all distracting and disgusting. I know the Verge is doing their best, but "premium ads" is an oxymoron. If I'm paying for a premium service, the service should not under any circumstances have ads.

Would be happy to pay money to remove Patel from podcasts lol. I honestly feel like he has ran off many tech journalists. He's obviously paid enough to purchase ridiculous tech products the average tech consumer wouldn't touch (All the AV stuff). IMO where the Verge goes wrong is its heavy left bias views. Tired of the Trump hate, Elon hate etc.The moment he took over to Topolsky his head got super inflated.
