Try as I might I just can’t get away from these darn fruit flies. I am however thrilled to see the progress that the African Night Crawlers are making. The level has dropped significantly and they are tearing through the food. What do you think!

I used to get fruit flies because of bananna peels. I had to set traps to kill those pest. I do think that humidity was the issue for you. Glad to hear that your ac is working again.

I have a gnat problem. I keep my coco coir outside and they somehow managed to invade that. When I used it for my bedding, they appeared in record numbers. Just glad they are in the basement and not in my house.

I use Mosquito Bits to control fungus gnats in my potted plants. It's a bacteria that infects the mouths the fungus gnat larvae so they can't eat and so they die. It could help a worm bin, I bought some more and just introduced it to my bin. It takes a couple weeks for the adult fungus gnats to all die, but after that they should be gone (since none of the larvae should be making it to adulthood. Keep the mosquito bits down to say goodbye to them permanently!

I haven't had any fruit fly issues yet but I keep finding little baby geckos in my bins. I'm hoping they are eating bugs and not worms. LOL

I used to make traps when I worked at the store. I think you should harvest when the castings are ready. 😂 Feed them some moldy coffee grounds. 😉

Hey, unrelated but have you considered using leaves / yard waste as worm bedding? I've seen how the youtuber AV does it and was wondering if the leaves are the reason why he has such high worm populations. It's something I've just begun to test myself! Great video, thank you

Outdoors I do use leaves and such, but I am not okay with bringing potential pests into my home.

Red wigglers are the staple composting worm. I think they would be great. European and African night crawlers can be more temperamental and blue worms like it really warm.
