Back in the 90's the Verve won a Brit award for best album i think it was, however they snubbed the award ceremony and all the glitz and glamour that came with it to do a charity gig for the homeless...respect to the verve.

@@edvardkvist3656 yea, i think i always knew it was an american song due to the obvious America accent but i never thought of it in those terms. 95% of the times ive heard that song were british sporting events so in those terms it's been adopted so to speak into british pop culture as a british soccer (mainly i think) anthem.

Hi from the UK, a truly beautiful 90's anthem , the wonderful Richard Ashcroft and the Verve 👋🇬🇧
@brandonshaw21203 жыл бұрын
Hi Quay. I've just recently subbed. The Verve are from Wigan in the North of England. Us Northerners are different to them lot down south. Up North we're much more straight-talking, but also more friendly. And it's cold, that's why you always see groups like The Verve, Oasis, etc. wearing big coats. Haha. We see London as a tourist attraction just like you would. It is NOT representative of England at all. I've only been there once and took pictures of Buckingham Palace like a tourist! All the best from the UK.

This song makes me think of My Sister Roz (AKA Fozzybear) who we lost in 2015 due to complications related to her Diabetes. The local health trust kept giving her synthetic Human insulin which her body just rejected, this despite big red letters on her medical note stating "Do NOT prescribe Human Insulin, Bovine/Porcine only" Despite this they refused to allow her to use her own insulin and always gave her the synthetic human variant without her or our knowledge.. She found out about this and started a claim as she'd suffered massive problems in every visit to hospital for over 20 years, any overnight stay lead to weeks or months there as her blood sugar would tank or be through the roof... She was awarded £250,000 in compensation but never got the chance to spend it as she passed away before the funds cleared into her bank... This song was a favorite of hers, she even stole my copy of their album Urban Hymns which I didn't get back till her passing, I still have that same CD to this day. The album only gets played on her Birthday... For 2 years afterwards, I felt just like this video, nothing mattered, I didn't care anymore, "Life" had robbed me of someone with so much zest for life. Just gone in seconds.. It STILL HURTS to listen to but also has a special place in my heart for the memories of her inexhaustible spirit and joy of life it brings back, particularly this song, and others on the album. Sonnet, One day, Space and time, Catching the butterfly and When the drugs don't work... A beautiful, painful, distressing but also joyful album for the memories it brings with it... Miss you Fozzybear.... Always will... In the words of Stephen, the mad Irishman from Braveheart "I'll see you after..." sigh....

This was a really popular song, Nike even used it for a while but the band got sued for using the music from a Rolling Stones song without giving them credit or royalties. "Ashcroft's song famously sampled an orchestral cover of the Rolling Stones' “The Last Time,” and a lawsuit from former Stones manager Allen Klein shortly after its release forced him to hand over 100 percent of the royalties from “Bitter Sweet Symphony” to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards."
@RayfordRaySiegel4 жыл бұрын
Although, The Rolling Stones did, years later, return the song credits back to Richard Ashcroft or the band, because Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had nothing to do with the orchestra cover of the Rolling Stones song, which is by Andrew Oldham and his orchestra. It also sounds nothing like the original song. To me, even though "Bittersweet Symphony", has the so called cover version in it, it more obviously sounds more like the "Futurama" theme song. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/bitter-sweet-symphony-richard-ashcroft-rolling-stones-838773/ www.radiox.co.uk/artists/the-verve/bitter-sweet-symphony-sample-lawsuit-verve/

The song seems to be a visual of the guy's cool defiant mood. He has a lot of pain he want to share with the people he bumps into on the city street. I have no idea of the band's background and it would be unfair to judge its work from one song. It looks like post-punk rebel rock, with strings taking on the function of grinding guitars for some reason. It's effective...

The way I took this guy is he is simply one of those rude self absorbed entitled fools that think people have to yield to them. I came across many of those people in my 60+ years walking the streets of NYC. I'm bigger than most, so I would just anticipate being bumped into and send the fool flying because I am not getting out of anyone's way. I walk on the right as we are supposed to in a crowd, and I expect everyone else to do the same. I haven't heard this song for many years, almost forgot about it. Now I see a whole lot of reactions to it in recent times. Strange. Stay safe, and take care.

Ken Hasard considering there were people left and right your point is moot. Since when do people on a pavement or sidewalk stick solely to left or right!
@k1hasard4 жыл бұрын
@@puckinhell622 Considering this is a music video, and not real life, the people on both sides are scripted. It is common practice to keep right where vehicular traffic keeps right. Add to that, if he did that where I lived for 60+ years, someone would have knocked him on his ass, especially when he walked over the hood of that car.
@puckinhell6224 жыл бұрын
Ken Hasard the hood of the car I agree, total bad attitude but the rest I feel is subjective. It is the responsibility of all to walk properly, even more so when people walk side by side taking up more of the pavement.
