I really like this answer to the sickness situation. I know sickness been a pretty contested feature, but I see why it was necessary, and I think forcing smaller litter sizes is a perfectly reasonable tradeoff-- honestly even as a player the idea of having 20 adult wolves running about at one given time is so wildly overwhelming! I actually really appreciate that there's still the option to not have pups die of illness. I've been getting used to it more because I've been trying to get ironwolf achievements lately, but losing a pup to illness after spending days by their side and just praying my mate returns with food for them is one of the most frustrating deaths they can have, and it's the most frustrating because there's nothing you can do. Some people just get really attached to in-game families and fictional characters, and I am one of them. I can't wait for the saga to come out! Little tip, don’t wait for your mate to bring food. Hunt large batches of food asap when your pup first gets sick. Only sleeping when you have to. I appreciate you saying that losing pups isn't always the player's fault, even if it goes without saying. I was recently *finally* able to play WQ with a friend, and every time we lose a pup, he's just distraught. (Versus me, who's played like 17 "years" in game and have adjusted to youngling fatality just being the reality for most wild animals. I'm not great at comforting him, but I'm good at keeping the pack up and running while he grieves, so it's not unlike having a lazy or loner mate in single player lol.) I also appreciate the accommodations you've made for players who don't want their pups to die. It's hard keeping everyone happy and the game balanced, especially since WolfQuest is less of a "play wolves with your friends" game and more like a genuinely sentimental family simulator game. People get attached to their pups! I hope you find a good solution soon.

Personally, I would have just left it as always possible because of the realism aspect being very important... But I do very much appreciate that you guys are going out of your way for these people. We dont know what other people are going through. There are many reasons why seeing their pup die from sickness could greatly upset someone. It tells a lot about this company that you care so much about giving options for people to make their own comfortable gameplay experience and to limit their own stress, while still being realistic about it. You guys are very kind :)

I love the inclusion of having an option were pups don't die of sickness. I can't see myself using the feature (I love drama) but I was getting a little worried about people or even myself getting frustrated with deaths that are mostly out of their control, espically since at this point in the game many players are attached to their pups. Much less stressful that way. It’s not like there isn’t precedent for it either for pups you grow up but then their younger selves die later in the save. I know I would be under a LOT of stress if I had to deal with the growing period where I could see a lucky pup who managed to roll a hidden coat and know RNG could take it away from me and deny me that coat unlock at any time

Question 1. Are wolf pups at this stage no longer at risk for getting hunted and killed by eagles/bears/cougars/cyotes/rival wolf packs? Aka you no longer need to protect them and can contribute more energy into keeping the pack fed and territory upheld? Or are the attacks limited? Like for example cougars or cyotes bears and eagles will no longer try for your pups cause there bigger and stronger but rival wolves can still come in and attack yearlings to weaken the pack? Question 2. Have the game developers considered making pup stage playable for players after the saga is complete? It’s not for growth benefits but just more immersion so instead of starting as a 2 yr old dispersal maybe you can start as a pup born in a pack and try to compete with your siblings to survive into adulthood then choose if you wanna be dispersed or a subordinate in the pack each choice having drawbacks and benefits for example as a Sub you won’t have your own pups or may compete with starving but you can contribute to caring and guarding pups from the alphas and having a home territory. But if you choose to disperse you can’t stay in your home territory and need to leave/migrate and got all the responsibility on yourself now Question 3. When the game is fully complete is the possibility of playing as a different animal in the table for the next step?? Like for example the same game/maps/seasons/animals but instead your surviving as an elk or wolverine or moose or cougar?
@ABloomAtMoonrise2 ай бұрын
I think the developers kinda always said no to the 3rd question a while ago and said that this is strictly a wolf game and won’t include other playable animals at all (like for both the past versions of the game and for Anniversary Edition too they said no to that is what I mean), but I’d love to hear what they think about considering Question’s 1 and 2 tho! Those are some very points actually imo.☺️🫶🏼 I been playing WolfQuest since I was like maybe 11yrs-12yrs old I believe, and I’m 21yrs now, and it’s so amazing to see the evolution of the game from back when I was younger to how it is now with the AE version, like it’s come such a long way fr! WolfQuest will definitely always be my favourite game for life Lol, I’m genuinely super excited for the saga and I can’t wait for it to come out like I’m just mega eagerly waiting for it like a little kid at this point haha.

What's truly amazing is just how fast the work on the saga is going. Great job, guys! I do have one question about the saga; after your wolf dies for one reason or another, what happens to the pack you've built up? Does it all end in that save file, or do you get to choose one of your pups as the new breeder? I don't really know how it works in the wild, but I think being able to continue on that save file and not erasing all that work would be awesome.

A little bit of censorship and fun can go a long way. A family friendly mode! It can be easy to code too; random roll to determine which pups go "missing", and random roll to determine which "flavor text" to give. Maybe community members can even suggest random events like this to add to the charm and silliness. We can still keep the same litter sizes and generation, but in this "family friendly mode", a random number of the pups will "go missing" for various creative reasons. "Pup1, Pup2, Pup3 & Pup4 all went on a road trip together!" "Pup 5 and Pup 6 were adopted by local researchers and taken to a wildlife sanctuary." "Pup 7 went on an adventure with another pup from -rival pack-!" "Pup 8 and 9 joined a pack of wild dogs in town and was adopted by humans!" It's not realistic sure, but neither is having all of the pups survive, so people who want this mode already aren't expecting realism. It might clash with the tone of the game though lol Either way- good luck on this one! Makes perfect sense and I'm excited to see how you end up balancing it.

I personally disagree with this. With all due respect, I am honestly very tired of all the censorship lately just because some parents are too lazy to be responsible for their own children on the internet, and then we all suffer for it. Yes, child safety is important, but parental controls exist, and should be properly utilized instead of just letting them loose in the wide expanse of the internet and making us pay the price just because they wandered somewhere they shouldn't. That aside, like you also mentioned, it takes away the realism aspect, and WolfQuest, even in the past has talked about this. Nature is often brutal, that is just a fact. To remove that removes the realism entirely. And the pups disappearing in that way gives me the same vibes as the people who kept asking the wolfquest team to have options for "purple fur and disclaimers". Iykyk. Or watch the Part One of "WolfQuest: Wildest Dreams" on the channel. The fact they're making death from illness an option is very generous, and i appreciate it. But seriously, we do not need more censorship.

@@Bonniethebunny yeah it's not a fantastic idea- maybe someone can think of something better. I would like to point out that no one is taking anything away from you, I was only proposing this as an alternate option. Not the main feature. Hence why it's a low-effort idea that boils down to "despawn & flavor text." All ya gotta do to not participate is just... not participate! Just like how mate permadeath mode is an option despite how unrealistic that can be as well. But you're still right; my silly idea kinda goes against realism, and might be a bit of a cop out. I'm sure the devs will come up with something better :)

1:23 I don't know why I got stuck on that photo but it makes me wonder why those deers have white rears that makes them much more noticeable from far away. Maybe they are more adapted for running on wide open plains and thus don't need to hide as much and having lighter colors makes them easier to find each other far away.

I absolutely love wolfquest and I am avidly following every video you post!! This has got to be one of the coolest games and I wish it got more appreciation! I’ve been playing wolfquest since well before the anniversary edition and I am so excited for the saga! I’ve never seen another game that includes so much realism and research into its simulation to teach players about the animals in the game! I absolutely love the mix of educational and entertaining and you guys have perfected it! By far one of the coolest and most under appreciated games of all time!
